Maetdolroman Deungchon Branch, a tofu specialty restaurant, has been featured on JTBC's Aljjawang and by the 1.5-million-subscriber YouTuber Foodie Trip, so it's well known as a go-to spot in Deungchon-dong and Gangseo-gu. Maetdolroman grinds domestic soybeans in a large millstone and simmers them in a cauldron to carefully make silken tofu and tofu with real care :) In summer, they also make kongguksu (chilled soybean noodle soup) using the soy milk as-is with nothing added, and apparently that's popular too!
Inside Maetdolroman, the Deungchon-dong sundubu spot

The moment I stepped through the entrance, a huge millstone caught my eye — you could instantly feel how much care the owner puts into this place :)

Seeing the wall covered in celebrity signatures felt like solid proof that this is a well-loved restaurant.

The interior is spacious with well-arranged tables, making it a great spot to come eat with the whole family.
Maetdolroman menu prices and unlimited sundubu refills

There's a wide variety of dishes made from silken tofu, and we ordered two Maetdolroman set meals :) At Maetdolroman Deungchon Branch, the housemade sundubu comes with unlimited refills.

The sundubu was so soft, mild, and nutty that it was genuinely delicious 🥲 The side dishes were clean and simple, and the muk (jelly) was also really good :)
What comes with the Maetdolroman set meal?

The set meal we ordered came out next — the meat had no gamey smell and was tender, and the tofu struck a perfect balance of nuttiness and mildness.

Even eaten on its own, the tofu was so nutty and mild that my chopsticks kept going back for more. Between the mild, tidy side dishes and the warm tofu, it felt like eating home-cooked food after a long time. Thanks to how much it felt like a home meal, I think I ate in silence, head down, totally focused :) And above all, I thought my parents would love it, so if I get the chance, I definitely want to bring them here too.

How is the tofu hot pot broth, and is cheonggukjang worth a return?
The hot pot that came out next had such a deep, refreshing broth that it felt like an instant hangover cure the moment I tasted it.

It's great for a hangover, and also perfect for a day when you're craving a refreshing broth. On days like these with big temperature swings, I'd absolutely recommend this dish :) If you love soup and stew dishes, definitely try the hot pot combo.
And while eating, the smell of cheonggukjang (fermented soybean paste stew) from another table smelled so good that I decided I'd come back for that next time :) They said they make it the old-fashioned way, so I bet it's delicious too.

Free biji to take home, and is Maetdolroman worth a visit?
It was also great that you can take home the biji prepared next to the self-serve bar for free :) I made sure to grab one to make biji jjigae (soybean pulp stew) at home.
From the deep flavor of the handmade tofu to the refreshing hot pot broth, every dish felt full of care, and I left Maetdolroman Deungchon Branch very satisfied. The mild, tidy cooking felt as comforting as a home-cooked meal from mom, and the portions were generous enough that I stayed happily full until the last bite. On top of that, being able to take home free biji after the meal really showed the owner's generosity :)
I'd strongly recommend this place for a comforting, filling meal, whether it's a family gathering or a hangover cure. It's also great for lunch, and a stress-free choice any day you need a hearty meal. Highly recommended as a restaurant near Yangcheonhyanggyo :)
