Eunpyeong Korean BBQ with staff grilling: Yukjjip

In short

Yukjjip is a Korean BBQ restaurant at the entrance to Bulgwangcheon Stream in Eunpyeong, Seoul. I tried the 600g Yukjjip Assortment of aged Jirisan pork, with staff grilling every cut from start to finish. Verdict: the varied cuts, substantial banchan, and yeolmu bibim-guksu were satisfying across the board.

Even when I’m going out for samgyeopsal (pork belly), which I eat often, I always search ahead for somewhere tasty. This time, while looking for good places near Bulgwangcheon Stream, I came across Yukjjip (육쯥), a meat restaurant near Eungam Station.

Visiting Yukjjip near Bulgwangcheon Stream

I had high expectations when I heard I could enjoy aged Jirisan pork with a full charcoal aroma.

Yukjjip Korean BBQ near Eungam Station: Location

This meat restaurant near Eungam Station sits right at the entrance to Bulgwangcheon Stream. Once you arrive at the stream, the restaurant is immediately visible. It gets plenty of sun, so it looks like they draw the blinds during the strongest daylight hours. You can feel the thoughtful care taken to help guests dine comfortably.

Yukjjip exterior at the entrance to Bulgwangcheon Stream

You can tell it is a meat restaurant just from the sign, but the outdoor menu also explained in detail what meats are available. If you are looking for a restaurant near Bulgwangcheon Stream, I think it would be easy to spot while passing by.

Menu and banchan

Yukjjip lunch menu information

Because they open from lunchtime, they also prepare kimchi jjigae (kimchi stew) for two at lunch. It seems like a nice place to visit when you want a simple meal.

Menu board inside Yukjjip

Once inside the dining room, the menu is easy to take in at a glance. You can check detailed items and order through the table-order system at each table.

The banchan (side dishes) included white kimchi, green-onion kimchi, salted shrimp, salt, garlic, ssamjang (seasoned soybean paste), and myeongi pickled leaves—all great with pork belly. As you would expect from a good samgyeopsal spot in Eunpyeong-gu, the flavors and seasoning were balanced, so every side dish felt carefully considered. Keep that in mind.

Banchan served with pork belly

The seasoned bean sprouts had a slight kick, so if you do not handle spicy food well, try a little first.

Pork belly, pork neck, and gabrisal in the Yukjjip Assortment

Patented grill pan cooking the Yukjjip Assortment

This samgyeopsal restaurant near Eungam Station had a grill pan I had never seen before. It uses a patented grill made from materials described as harmless to the human body, so you can enjoy the meat without worries about harmful substances :) I ordered the Yukjjip Assortment (600g). It came with an even mix of whole pork belly, signature pork neck, and gabrisal, and since it is intended for two to three people, you could add more according to your group size.

There is an assortment menu for trying several meats, and individual cuts are also sold by section.

  • Yukjjip Special Assortment (800g) ₩72,000
  • Yukjjip Assortment (600g) ₩54,000
  • Yukjjip Signature Pork Neck (180g) ₩17,000
  • Yukjjip Whole Pork Belly (180g) ₩17,000
  • Yukjjip Gabrisal (150g) ₩17,000
Extra minari served with pork belly

I also ordered minari (water dropwort). The fragrant minari goes so well with the savory fat of pork belly, and it is a combination I keep coming back to. It is not always available, so I was happy to find it on the add-on menu. If you want to enjoy pork belly properly, definitely add the minari.

Staff grilling from start to finish

At Yukjjip by Bulgwangcheon Stream, the staff grill the meat for you. If one person takes charge of grilling, or everyone takes turns, someone inevitably ends up not being able to eat comfortably. Here, a staff member handled the grill from beginning to end, so I could focus entirely on talking with my companions.

Aged pork with no disappointing cut

When several cuts are grilled together, there is usually one that falls a little short, but everything here was consistently delicious. It must be the aged Jirisan pork—it really did feel different.

Gabrisal, pork neck, and pork belly

They grilled the gabrisal first, so that was the first cut I got to try. Then came the pork neck.

The pork neck was moist and tender, while the pork belly was springy and full of savory flavor. Pork belly, too.

There was not a single cut of meat I found disappointing at Yukjjip by Bulgwangcheon Stream.

Event and side dishes

Yukjjip customer-appreciation drinks event

This meat restaurant near Eungam Station was also running a customer-appreciation event. They said the event, with soju for ₩1,000 and bottled beer for ₩2,000, would continue through October, so it is worth checking out. Meat and alcohol are such inseparable partners that “samgyeopsal and soju” sounds completely natural, so I was glad to see an event that lets you pair drinks with samgyeopsal near Eungam Station at a low price.

The drinks refrigerator at Yukjjip

It is a meat restaurant serious enough about drinks to have a separate liquor refrigerator, so be sure to enjoy them together.

  • Yeolmu sundubu jjigae (young-radish soft tofu stew) ₩7,000
  • Kimchi jjigae (kimchi stew) ₩7,000
  • Doenjang jjigae (soybean-paste stew) ₩5,000
  • Doenjang mari-bap (rice rolled in soybean paste) ₩6,000
  • Yeolmu bibimbap (young-radish mixed rice) ₩5,000
  • Yeolmu mul-guksu (young-radish cold noodle soup) ₩6,000
  • Yeolmu bibim-guksu (spicy mixed young-radish noodles) ₩6,000
  • Wasabi meat jumeokbap (rice balls) ₩4,000
  • Three-flavor handmade sausage ₩18,000
  • Handmade pork skin ₩7,000
Yeolmu bibim-guksu side dish

I ordered the yeolmu bibim-guksu as a side. The rich kimchi broth and seasoning sauce came together nicely, making it delicious. The noodles were neither thin like somyeon nor thick like jjolmyeon; they had a satisfying bite, and the spice level was just right rather than overpowering.

Large-group seating and handy amenities

Individually wrapped dental floss and chargers
Amenities available inside Yukjjip

There were phone chargers and dental floss at the checkout counter. I had never seen individually wrapped floss before, so I was surprised, but I also liked how hygienic it was. Use them if you need them.

There are four to five tables on the first floor and many spacious tables upstairs, so even larger groups should be able to visit without worry.

Yukjjip by Bulgwangcheon Stream was easy to find among restaurants near the stream and had a substantial spread of side dishes. If you are looking for a meat restaurant near Eungam Station, I recommend Yukjjip by Bulgwangcheon Stream.
