Seongsu Western restaurant with a self-serve apron bar: Seongsu Darak

Hi there 😉 Today I'm writing about a Western-style restaurant with a nice vibe that I found while looking around Seongsu. Seongsu has so many cafés and restaurants down every alley that once you've made plans, it's actually hard to decide where to go. This time I visited a place with a wide range of menu items — pasta, steak, katsu sando, all in one spot. I think this will be useful for anyone looking for a Seongsu date spot or a brunch place 🙆🏻‍♀️

What kind of restaurant is Seongsu Darak?

Seongsu Darak is a restaurant in Seongsu focused on Western-style dishes. The space really suits Seongsu's distinctive stylish atmosphere, so it felt like a good spot for a meal with friends or a date. When I visited, there were a lot of foreign customers too. Sometimes when I come to Seongsu I get confused about whether I'm in Seoul or somewhere abroad, and I felt that way again for a moment this time 😮

Bar and table seats on the 1st and 2nd floors

The interior of Seongsu Darak is split into 1st and 2nd floors, with bar-style seating alongside table seating. The overall interior has a warm feel, so it was a nice atmosphere for taking photos while eating too. On the 1st floor there were table seats for larger groups, and overall it felt like a comfortable place to eat.

There's seating on the 2nd floor too, so the place turned out to be bigger than it first looked. It's a good space to keep in mind if you're looking for somewhere in Seongsu to eat with friends, or somewhere for an easygoing date meal.

Aprons were set out so you could take one yourself from the self-serve bar.

Cream onion fries: the side dish to share

First up, the cream onion fries 🍟 This is fries topped with a cream onion sauce, and it was great as a side dish to share! 👏

Crispy fries paired with a sauce is a combination that's hard to get wrong. The mild flavor of the cream sauce and the salty taste of the fries went well together, and it was good to nibble on while waiting for the mains. That said, fries topped with cream sauce can lose some crispness over time, so it's best eaten as soon as it arrives.

Signature pork neck steak with mashed potato

Next was the signature pork neck steak 🥩, served together with mashed potato. Eating the meat with the mashed potato added a softer texture, and the combination worked well. The pork neck steak was a good choice when you want a fairly filling meal at a Western restaurant, and it also worked fine ordered alongside pasta to share.

What does the spicy cream pasta taste like?

Next, the spicy cream pasta 🍝. This had the soft flavor typical of cream pasta with some spiciness added. Compared to a pasta with cream sauce only, a bit of spice helps cut through the richness — that's the advantage. If you're looking for pasta in Seongsu, this kind of spicy cream style seemed like a solid pick.

Mixing the sauce well into the noodles made it feel even smoother 👍🏻

Katsu sando: the best dish at Seongsu Darak

Of everything I ordered that day, the one that personally suited my taste the most was the katsu sando 💕. Katsu sando is a sandwich-style dish with tonkatsu (breaded pork cutlet) between slices of bread. Ordering it alongside the other Western dishes made the lineup feel more varied 👏

Personally, the katsu sando was the most memorable dish of everything I ate that day. If you want to try something a bit different from pasta or steak in Seongsu, I'd suggest checking out the katsu sando too. Especially if you're at a table ordering several dishes to share, it was nice not to lean on just one dish and instead enjoy a range of flavors.

Having crunchy coleslaw alongside a dish made of meat and bread changed up the texture nicely. With a side like that, there's also the fun of switching up the combination bite by bite.

Is Seongsu Darak worth a visit? Final verdict

💡 Seongsu Darak turned out to be a place in Seongsu where you can enjoy a range of Western dishes — pasta, steak, katsu sando — all in one spot. Overall, the menu was easy to enjoy, and for me personally, the katsu sando suited my taste the best.
