Seongsu omurice restaurant for a husband-and-wife date: Seongsu Darak

In short

Seongsu Darak is an omurice and pasta brunch restaurant on the 2nd and 3rd floors of a building on Ttukseom-ro 9-gil, near Seongsu Station in Seongdong, Seoul. After a walk around the Seongsu-dong gift shops, the writer and her husband took a 3rd-floor table at Seongsu Darak for Darak omurice, chapmoksal (thick pork collar) steak, lemon Seongsu ade and pineapple Darak ade, and found even the picture-frame entrance door and the printed napkin note charming. Between the omurice cutting and the juicy pork collar steak, Seongsu Darak made a satisfying Seongsu date course.

Date with my husband in Seongsu, part 2 💕

We wandered around Seongsu, browsed some concept stores and cute little design shops, and suddenly got hungry. Here's my honest review of Seongsu Darak (성수다락), a brunch and pasta spot in Seongsu where the vibe was just as good as the food.

The door at this Seongsu brunch favorite is special — it's shaped like a picture frame, and once you open it you can finally climb up to the darak (attic loft). It felt a bit like following the rabbit down the hole in Alice in Wonderland.

Climb the stairs and there's a dining hall on the 2nd floor. I actually ate one floor up on the 3rd, but I snapped a photo of the 2nd floor as we went up 😊

What's on the Seongsu Darak menu? The signature Darak omurice

Like the entrance, the menu has a lot of white space and opens with a warm little note.

The clear star of Seongsu Darak's signatures is the Darak omurice, and the Darak rosé pasta, spicy crab risotto, and katsu sando (breaded pork cutlet sandwich) are also signature dishes. There's a best-menu section too, and honestly everything looked delicious.

Thoughtful details at Seongsu Darak: napkin note, apron and golden bell

The warmth of Seongsu Darak shows up everywhere :)

You can even feel it on the napkins.

Thank you for waiting. We're happily 'dalgeurak-ing' away in the kitchen.

That line put me in a good mood.

The apron draped over a mannequin torso and the golden bell (?!) you can ring when ordering both showed real attention to detail.

There was also a corner decorated with fan goods from THE BOYZ member Jaehyun — there was even a screenshot of him visiting alone and telling a friend how amazing it was! I mean, how good can a risotto be?!! The set we had that day was introduced as the "Jaehyun-jeongsik" (Jaehyun's set meal), haha.

Seongsu ade and Darak ade: why the pineapple cup wins

The drinks came out first — the pretty pink-gradient "Seongsu ade (lemon)" and the signature "Darak ade (pineapple)." The Darak ade especially had a strong, real pineapple flavor and came in a pineapple-shaped tin cup that kept it cold to the last sip — highly recommend.

Darak omurice: cutting open the Japanese-style omelet

Finally, the omurice we'd been waiting for arrived!! With one swift move of the staff's knife, the soft-set omelet unfurled beautifully. The slightly spicy sauce, fried rice, and egg came together wonderfully.

Chapmoksal steak: one of the juiciest pork collar steaks yet

We also ordered the chapmoksal (thick pork collar) steak. I honestly didn't expect much, but the mashed potatoes were so smooth, and the meat wasn't tough or chewy at all — packed with juice. It ranks among the best pork collar steaks I've ever had.

The meat was cut thick too, so it had a great chew.

The garnish — broccoli, tomato, eggplant and more — was savory and delicious too.

Seongsu Darak review event and where to park

They also run a review event that gets you a free drink. You can submit reviews on both Naver and Google, which is even better!! Since it's Seongsu, with a lot of foreign visitors, Google reviews seem to matter too.

There's no dedicated parking lot, so you'll need to use a nearby paid lot. Seongsu Darak posts the following guide, for reference:

  • Musinsa Megastore Seongsu paid lot – about a 1-minute walk, basement of 62 Seongsuiro, Seongdong-gu, Seoul
  • Public paid lot near Seongsu Station Exit 3 – toward the Seongsu cafe street and Ttukdo Market from Exit 3
  • S-Factory paid lot – 11 Yeonmujang 15-gil, Seongdong-gu
