Pyeongtaek café with apple fig financiers and furniture showroom

In short

Cafe Pomun is a financier dessert café on Chudam-ro in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi. After lunch, the writer, her husband, and eldest child stopped by for shakerato chocolat, summer matcha, peach lemon sherbet ade, and pistachio and apple fig financiers, settling into an annex decorated like a furniture showroom. The apple fig financier was the best one she's ever had.

Last time I posted about eating ongsimi memil kalguksu (dumpling buckwheat noodle soup) with my husband and eldest kid. After lunch, we headed to a café nearby.

I'd heard there was a café in Songtan with amazing financiers and had wanted to go for a while, but it wasn't close to home, so I kept putting it off. It was just a 1-minute drive from the ongsimi memil kalguksu place, so I went with high hopes. This is Cafe Pomun (카페포문).

A large parking lot and brown-toned interior

Walking into the entrance of Cafe Pomun, there was a large parking lot inside. It was easy to park, which made me think this place has great accessibility compared to other Pyeongtaek cafés.

Walking into the store, the deep brown-toned interior gave off such a nice atmosphere. My eyes naturally drifted to the financiers haha.

There were so many kinds of financiers and they all looked so delicious.

Ordering drinks and financiers

We ordered our drinks right away. My husband said anything was fine, so with the plan of stealing a sip, I ordered a Shakerato Chocolat (₩7,500), my eldest kid got a Summer Matcha (₩7,500), and I got a Peach Lemon Sherbet Ade (₩7,500).

For the financiers, I honestly wanted to try them all, but after much deliberation I picked the Pistachio Financier (₩4,800) and the Apple Fig Financier (₩3,900). We looked around the store while waiting for the order.

Going up to the second floor, there was a pretty spacious area with people chatting.

We came back down and headed outside. Someone who looked like the owner mentioned there was an annex decorated as a furniture showroom.

Once outside, I saw outdoor seating and a building. It already looked like it had a great atmosphere from the outside.

Opening the door, a bright, warm, and cute little space appeared. We took a seat here.

Three drinks, each to their own taste

Once the order was ready, a staff member brought it over. I was completely won over by the visuals.

Coffee usually keeps me from sleeping well, but I wanted to try the Shakerato Chocolat so badly that I had a little of it first. The rich coffee — bitter yet smooth with a slight sweetness — went so well with the chocolate ice cream.

I couldn't stop at one sip, so I had it 3-4 times, but luckily I slept fine that night haha.

Summer Matcha topped with matcha ice cream

The Summer Matcha, which my matcha-loving eldest kid picked, had rich matcha at the bottom and matcha ice cream on top.

I tried the matcha ice cream first — the matcha flavor was strong but not too sweet, which I really liked. I also tried the drink itself, and it was rich, smooth, and delicious.

My kid absolutely loved it and ate it happily, though she did say she wished there was a bit more. Guess she wanted more haha.

The Peach Lemon Sherbet Ade I ordered had such a pretty color that just looking at it made me happy. The lemon sherbet was full of lemon aroma and refreshing, but not too sweet, which I loved.

People who love lemon would really like this drink. At the bottom, there were crunchy bits like peach that had a slightly tart, sweet taste — delicious.

The best apple fig financier

Honestly I didn't have high expectations for the drinks, but they turned out to exceed them. That made me even more curious about the financiers.

I love financiers so much that I've made plenty at home and bought plenty too. When I cut into the Apple Fig Financier, the knife didn't slice through smoothly, and I could tell the outside was crisp while the inside was incredibly chewy.

The moment I took a bite, the crisp outside, the chewy fig texture, the sweet chewy cake part, and the subtle cinnamon aroma — everything I love was packed into one bite.

I think it was the best financier I've ever had.

Pistachio Financier topped with cream

The Pistachio Financier felt softer because of the cream. The sweetness of the white chocolate and the nutty flavor of the pistachio paired really well — a delicious financier.

It was my first time trying this kind of flavor, and it was pretty good.

A 10-year-old café, a reason to come back

Table view of the Cafe Pomun annex

This was a place I'd wanted to visit, and I honestly wonder what I would have done if I hadn't gone haha. The owner said they've been running the business here for 10 years, and staying beloved by people for that long isn't easy.

But once I visited, I think I understood why. The atmosphere was great and comfortable, and both the drinks and financiers were delicious.

Table at Cafe Pomun after finishing the drinks

If I'm ever in the area again, I definitely want to stop by Cafe Pomun and try the chestnut matcha chocolate cake, which I was too full to eat this time. And the other financiers I missed too haha. If you're looking for a dessert café in Pyeongtaek, Cafe Pomun is worth a visit.
