A few days ago was my mom's birthday! Instead of the usual bakery cake I bring every time, I wanted to gift her something a bit more special and made with more care haha. She's always loved fresh, tangy-sweet seasonal fruit, so while looking for a cake piled high with fruit, I visited Siznique at Shinsegae Department Store Daegu Branch near Dong Daegu Station, famous for its fruit cakes — it's a great spot to stop by while shopping cool no matter the weather outside, perfect for a Daegu date or indoor date course, so my husband, baby, and I had a lovely time there.

September showcase at Siznique: mango, fig and peach

The showcase in front of the Siznique counter was packed with fruit cakes piled high with fresh fruit! The fruit changes with the season, and September seems to be mango, fig, and peach season..♥️ I remember enjoying a strawberry cake here earlier this year in winter too...! I love Siznique so much..💗

There was also a Basque cream cake! It's mini-sized but piled with mango, so it looks perfect for a small dessert, don't you think..♥️

A cake with figs piled up like a mountain, and a peach cake with peaches arranged like flowers! Siznique is famous for its overflowing, generously fruit-topped 'wareureo' (spilling-over) cake style, and I instantly understood why dessert lovers on social media call it a must-visit. I've been to countless cake shops in Daegu, but places that showcase the natural freshness and gorgeousness of fruit this generously are rare haha. I lingered in front of the display the whole time, unable to decide which one to pick...! Me, unable to leave the showcase...

Fig or peach? Choosing by the birthday person's taste

I'd already tried Siznique's mango cake, so I was torn between fig and peach..! Autumn figs are just too tempting.

By the way, the mango cake is really piled high with real mango, so it's excellent value for money! My husband likes mango, but since my mom prefers sweet over tangy, I picked the peach cake for her..♥️

Why the seasonal peach mini cake won

The fig cake tempted me too!!!!! But what really caught my eye was the seasonal peach mini cake! 🍑 Round, pale pink peaches were piled generously from the top to the sides of the cake, and the subtle, fragrant peach scent was truly a work of art haha. It wasn't an overly huge size that would feel like too much to finish in one sitting — it was a cute mini cake size, perfect for two people to share and finish completely while celebrating a special day, which made it seem ideal as a gift. Seeing the pale dairy whipped cream and the juice-filled peaches through the clear showcase looked so incredibly delicious,,,

Gift-wrapping the birthday cake and mom's reaction

Unfortunately, our schedules didn't line up this birthday, so we couldn't sit down together and sing happy birthday while blowing out candles ㅜㅜ. But I put the beautifully wrapped peach cake box in my mom's hands and sent all my love and congratulations her way before heading back 🥺💕

Later, when my mom opened the box, she said the cake was so pretty, and that the whipped cream wasn't heavy at all and tasted amazing! She even took photos of the cake and sent them to me, looking so happy!

She said the peaches weren't mushy at all but crisp, with sweet juice bursting out, and that she ate it all the way through without any heaviness from the cream — she showered me with compliments,,,haha. Seeing my mom smile so brightly and looking so happy made all the effort I put into choosing this gift feel a hundred, a thousand times worth it 🥰✨
