Sindorim jokbal restaurant with QR-order 2-person tables: The Jokbal

About six months ago, a friend living in Sindorim recommended me some local favorites, and I've been checking them off one by one. This time I finally made it to the jokbal place she suggested!

Six whole months after that recommendation, I'm still working through the list. Today's stop: The Jokbal, a Sindorim favorite!!

Where is The Jokbal Sindorim Main Branch, and when is it open?

• Hours: Mon-Fri 11:00-22:30 (break time 15:00-16:00)
• Sat 11:00-22:30 / Sun 11:00-21:30
• No break time on weekends and holidays

The Jokbal Sindorim Main Branch is about an 8-minute walk from Exit 1 of Sindorim Station. Just follow the main road the whole way — no confusing turns at all!

6:30pm on a weekday: The Jokbal packed with after-work dinner groups

It's tucked into the ground-floor commercial space of an apartment complex. My friend came straight from work, so we got there a bit after 6:30, and the place was already buzzing with barely any tables left. Looked like a favorite for company dinners too — several tables were clearly mid-hoesik (work dinner).

Every other section was packed. The inside was bigger than I expected — about 9-10 four-person tables and 2 two-person tables. On the main floor there were 6 four-person tables and 2 two-person tables, and behind a partial partition there seemed to be another 4-5 four-person tables. By the time we arrived, only one 2-person table and two 4-person tables were free. It's clearly already a well-known spot — delivery and takeout orders kept coming in nonstop.

Other tables could order via kiosk, but the 2-person tables were QR-code order only, apparently to make the most of the limited table space. We ordered the half-and-half jokbal (spicy) and a small jokbal-noodle platter. The lunch special menu was also surprisingly varied.

The side dishes came out right away — lettuce wraps, dried radish, chive salad, onion, garlic, ssamjang (seasoned dipping paste), and salted shrimp.

Free with the meal: cold jokbal salad and cabbage doenjang soup

They gave us cold jokbal (naengchae jokbal) on the house — and it wasn't stingy either, with 4 pieces of trotter included. It was my first time trying cold jokbal, and it had a tangy, refreshing taste. A new flavor experience, but genuinely delicious with that tang. The sauce was so good that my friend dipped even the freshly served hot jokbal into it.

This one was also complimentary — cabbage soybean paste soup! I didn't expect much, but it was so good I scraped the bowl clean.

How big is the spicy half-and-half jokbal at The Jokbal, and how smoky?

Wow, the portion made us gasp the second it arrived. The jokbal filled a dish the size of a wash basin. The sheer amount was genuinely shocking.

Can you tell how huge the plate is behind it,,?? Wrapped in lettuce like this, it was seriously delicious. Especially dipped in salted shrimp — the salty seasoning meeting the tender jokbal was just the best!

It also paired really well with the buckwheat noodles — wrapping noodles and jokbal together in lettuce was genuinely delicious. And the smoky char of the spicy jokbal hits your senses before it even fully reaches your mouth. It's pretty spicy, so anyone who loves heat will really love this. I highly recommend the half-and-half jokbal.. it was so good I'd absolutely go back.

Just a heads-up: fresh jokbal comes out at The Jokbal Sindorim Main Branch at 2:30pm, 5pm, and 7pm! That was my truly delicious visit to The Jokbal Sindorim Main Branch, a real Sindorim favorite.
