Gwangmyeong BBQ joint with scallion sauce: teukmoksal at Sammokjip

In short

Sammokjip Gwangmyeong Sageori Station Branch is a Korean BBQ restaurant in the Gwangmyeong Sageori food alley in Gyeonggi, where teukmoksal (premium pork neck) and whole scallion galmaegisal (pork skirt meat) are the signature orders. Three diners ordered 3 servings of teukmoksal (180g, 16,900 won) and 2 servings of whole scallion galmaegisal (180g, 18,900 won), then added one more serving of teukmoksal because it was so good. What sets Sammokjip apart is the staff grilling every piece from start to finish and a scallion sauce served instead of the usual pickled onions.

Work's been rough lately, and every time the stress piles up I just want to eat something delicious. So here's the motto I've been faithfully practicing these days: "When you're feeling down, head to the meat!" True to form, I went out again for some good Korean BBQ.

This time I visited Sammokjip Gwangmyeong Sageori Station Branch! It's a Korean BBQ restaurant in the Gwangmyeong Sageori food alley, and I heard the teukmoksal (premium pork neck) and whole scallion galmaegisal (pork skirt meat) are the best menu items, so we tried both.

Sammokjip Gwangmyeong Sageori Station Branch: the basics

  • 📍 Address: 8 Oriro985beon-angil, 1st floor, Gwangmyeong-si, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea
  • ⏰ Hours: Mon–Fri 14:00–01:00 (next day) / Sat–Sun 12:00–01:00 (next day)

Since it's open late, it looks like a good spot for meat after work or for a dinner gathering.

How to walk to Sammokjip from Gwangmyeong Sageori Station

Exterior and sign of Sammokjip inside the Gwangmyeong Sageori food alley

It's about 130m from Exit 5 of Gwangmyeong Sageori Station (Line 7), so it's close. It's tucked inside the food alley, but the sign lights up brightly so it wasn't hard to find.

🌙 Good weather and an open-window, outdoor-table feel

Sammokjip's dining room with windows wide open for an outdoor pojangmacha feel

The weather was so nice that day that they had almost all the windows open. So even though it's an indoor BBQ restaurant, the outside air came in and it felt a little like eating at an outdoor tent bar. Smelling the meat grilling with the windows wide open on a nice day made the whole atmosphere feel even better than usual. The Gwangmyeong Sageori food alley itself has a lively evening energy, so it really felt like a proper night out for meat.

Inside Sammokjip: interior and seating

Inside was tidy and organized, with mostly 4-person round tables. It's a layout that works well for friends or family meals, and also fine for company dinners or gatherings.

There was also a self-serve bar, so we could easily grab any side dishes or vegetables we needed. The spacing between tables was fairly generous and the place felt clean and comfortable!

Sammokjip's menu and what three of us ordered

🥩 Sammokjip menu and prices

Sammokjip menu board listing samok samgyeopsal and teukmoksal

Sammokjip has menu items like samok samgyeopsal (pork belly), samok teukmoksal (premium pork neck), whole scallion galmaegisal, whole galmaegisal, and whole hangjeongsal (pork jowl). Among these, we ordered the teukmoksal + whole scallion galmaegisal combo marked as the best menu. There were three of us, so we ordered:

  • 🥩 Teukmoksal x3 servings
  • 🌿 Whole scallion galmaegisal x2 servings
Table spread of ordered teukmoksal and whole scallion galmaegisal

That's what we ordered. Teukmoksal is 180g for ₩16,900, and whole scallion galmaegisal is 180g for ₩18,900.

Side dishes and the self-serve bar at Sammokjip

Basic side dishes served with the meat at Sammokjip

The side dishes that came with the meat weren't overly abundant but were a clean lineup that paired well with the meat — scallion pickle, ssamjang (dipping sauce), salt, wasabi, and even myeongi-namul (wild garlic leaves) and mukeunji (aged kimchi)!

Everything you'd need while eating the meat was well prepared. And with the self-serve bar, we could easily grab more of any side dish we ran low on.

How does the thick teukmoksal (premium pork neck) taste?

Thick teukmoksal placed on the grill

First up, the teukmoksal! The moment I saw the meat, I thought, "whoa, that's thick." They laid the plump cut on the grill and cooked it to a golden brown — the smell of the meat grilling was so good haha. Once the staff member cooked it enough, they cut it into bite-sized pieces and grilled it evenly once more. So the outside turned golden brown while the inside stayed juicy.

Taking a bite, it was tender and full of juice! Even though it's pork neck, it wasn't dry at all — it was moist and nutty-tasting. Because of the thickness, there was a satisfying chew too, and you could really taste the meat's own aroma and nuttiness.

Sammokjip's teukmoksal stood out for its thick cut, crispy outside with a moist inside, and rich juiciness!

What is whole scallion galmaegisal (pork skirt meat)?

Galmaegisal with a whole scallion inside before grilling

Next up is the whole scallion galmaegisal, which I was most curious about. From the moment it arrived, it looked different from regular galmaegisal. It had a whole scallion tucked inside the meat, so it looked unique even before grilling.

The staff grilled this one carefully too, and as it cooked, a subtle scallion aroma rose up and blended nicely with the smell of the meat. Once it was cooked through, they cut it into bite-sized pieces.

Sweet scallion bursting inside the galmaegisal

Taking a bite, this combination worked better than I expected. The galmaegisal's chewy, nutty flavor combined with the scallion inside, which released its juices as it cooked.

Cross-section of the sliced whole scallion galmaegisal

The scallion's subtle sweetness and aroma came through together with the meat, making it distinctly different from regular galmaegisal. In particular, when you chewed, a bit of moist juice came out of the scallion, and you'd get the meat's nuttiness plus the scallion's gentle sweetness all at once — that was the highlight!

Scallion sauce instead of pickled onions at Sammokjip

And there was one thing at this place that I personally really loved: the scallion sauce.

Sammokjip's scallion sauce served instead of pickled onions

Usually at Korean BBQ restaurants, pickled onions come out, but Sammokjip does things a bit differently with a sauce made with scallions. This was a real treat. Piling scallions generously on top of the meat and eating it together brings out the meat's nutty flavor along with the scallion's fragrant aroma, making the whole thing much richer. Especially with a juicy cut like teukmoksal, pairing it with the scallion sauce made the aftertaste feel a bit cleaner. I liked this combination so much that I kept piling scallions on while eating.

🔥 Sammokjip's best feature: the grilling service

And here's the part I liked most about Sammokjip: the staff grill the meat for you. At BBQ restaurants, if you have to keep tending the grill yourself, conversations get interrupted and it's hard to fully enjoy the meal — but here, the staff grilled everything from start to finish. We just sat back comfortably and waited for the meat to cook to perfection.

🥩 Adding one more serving of teukmoksal

Extra serving of teukmoksal that was ordered

At first we ordered 3 servings of teukmoksal thinking that would be plenty, but as we ate... it was so good we ordered one more serving haha. I never expected to add more pork neck, but it was so tender and juicy that I kept reaching for it. Personally, I think a place that makes good pork neck really shows off the quality of the meat itself, and the teukmoksal we had that day was exactly that. Great thickness, great juiciness, and I liked how they grilled it too.

💛 Final verdict on Sammokjip

At Sammokjip Gwangmyeong Sageori Station Branch, we tried two menu items this time: 🥩 teukmoksal and 🌿 whole scallion galmaegisal. The teukmoksal was thick, juicy, and full of flavor, so I think anyone who likes pork neck would enjoy it (I recommend the pork neck!), and the whole scallion galmaegisal was a fun, unique combo of chewy galmaegisal + subtly sweet grilled scallion.

What I especially liked about Sammokjip is that since the staff grill the meat for you, you can relax and enjoy the meal without worrying about tending the grill. If you're looking for a good BBQ restaurant near Gwangmyeong Sageori Station, give this place a try!! And if you're having a rough time at work like me... let's just eat meat first. 🥩
