Late lunch mixed katsu set at Euljiro pork cutlet spot: Hunta Euljiro

In short

Hunta Euljiro is a premium black pork cutlet (katsu) restaurant on the 1st floor of Fast Five, about 200m from Euljiro-1(il)ga Station in Jung-gu, Seoul. Arriving well after the lunch rush, when much of the menu board was already sold out, the writer ordered the mixed katsu set of sirloin, fillet and cheese for 19,000 won and added chicken thigh katsu and fillet (hire) katsu for 4,000 won each. Swapping between salt, coarse black pepper, mild mustard and scallion kimchi kept every bite different, making Hunta Euljiro a filling weekday lunch for office workers.

Why Hunta Euljiro was the lunch pick in Euljiro

Hunta Euljiro, a pork cutlet restaurant in Euljiro, uses only premium black pork and is apparently listed among the top 100 katsu restaurants in the katsu bible published by katsu influencer 'Donbanggu' — the Daedon Yeojido (대돈여지도). This time I added chicken katsu and fillet katsu to the mixed (sirloin, fillet, cheese) katsu set for a filling weekday lunch.

Hi everyone~ It's your rookie blogger Matdoriyam~ I had a light breakfast so I had no energy left.. and to get through the rest of the workday, I needed a solid lunch!! Pork cutlet, decided~!

I wanted a proper pork cutlet if I was going to do it, and conveniently there was today's Euljiro restaurant nearby that only uses premium black pork and was selected as one of the top 100 katsu restaurants in the Daedon Yeojido~ Hunta Euljiro.

The mixed katsu oozed juices and was savory with every bite, while the coating stayed crispy — so delicious. Even the added chicken thigh katsu was soft and full of moist juice, like the chef has total confidence in every fried item!!!! Check it out through the review~

Is solo dining easy at Hunta Euljiro?

Hunta Euljiro has plenty of tables for groups but also lots of solo-dining tables, so I never felt out of place eating alone. As you'd expect from a restaurant listed among the nation's top 100 katsu spots, it was busy with customers, but I could still eat comfortably without worrying about dining solo~

Late lunch menu at Hunta Euljiro: what was sold out and what was ordered

I arrived at Hunta Euljiro a bit after the lunch hour, and the menu board already had many items marked sold out! But the mixed katsu set I wanted was still available, so I added chicken katsu and fillet katsu on top of it~

  • Mixed (sirloin, fillet, cheese) katsu set 1.9
  • Add chicken (thigh) katsu 0.4
  • Add fillet (hire) katsu 0.4
  • Zero Coke 0.2

A hearty spread arrived~ the mixed set and

How does the mixed katsu taste? Cheese, sirloin and the sauce

Hunta Euljiro's mixed katsu set comes with sirloin, fillet, and cheese all together. The cheese stretched out beautifully — such a delicious-looking visual~ the savoriness of the mozzarella and the moist meat wrapping around it made for a great combo~

Sirloin (rosu) katsu dipped in salt

Dipping the sirloin in just a little salt, the crispy coating, clean lean meat, and the fat on one side all came together in the mouth for a savory richness~ Truly an excellent choice for Euljiro lunch~

A piece of katsu dipped in pork cutlet sauce

Sometimes a sauce that's too strong can overpower the flavor of the pork cutlet, but this one had just the right amount of sweetness and sauce flavor without overwhelming it, letting the katsu shine through deliciously~

Sprinkling black pepper onto the katsu

Coarse black pepper, mild mustard and scallion kimchi combinations

Just as the 'how to enjoy it' guide suggested, I sprinkled on some black pepper~

Sprinkling on the pepper brought out a whole new flavor, which was a fun change~

Katsu topped with mustard alongside salt

Adding a little mustard along with the salt gave a sharp kick that refreshed my palate, giving me energy to keep enjoying the meal~

Scallion kimchi served as a side

The scallion kimchi (pa-kimchi) served alongside also paired really well with the pork cutlet — thinking through all the combinations, I'd say the scallion kimchi might be the tastiest pairing of all. Perfect match~

Freshly served chicken thigh katsu

How was the chicken thigh katsu add-on?

The chicken thigh katsu I added for ₩4,000 at Hunta Euljiro came out just as I was finishing the mixed set, so I got to eat it crispy and hot~

There was a slight pink tinge left, but the visual was moist and well cooked — a textbook crispy-outside, juicy-inside chicken thigh, and it really looked great~

Chicken katsu with a chipotle mayo-style sauce

The sauce had a chipotle mayo vibe — like eating chicken tenders with honey mustard — and it paired so well with this chicken katsu, tangy and savory, that I enjoyed it deliciously right to the last bite. That was a great meal~!!!

Verdict: is Hunta Euljiro worth it for a pork cutlet lunch in Euljiro?

I visited Hunta Euljiro, a restaurant near Euljiro-1(il)ga Station~ I understand the owner is a self-professed katsu enthusiast who tried tons of pork cutlets before opening this place with all that know-how baked in — and it really showed, down to how much effort and research went into serving each cutlet in the tastiest way.

If you're looking for a Euljiro lunch spot, I'm confident a visit to Hunta Euljiro will leave you fully satisfied as both a filling office-worker lunch and a great Euljiro pork cutlet restaurant~!
