Yeouido birthday date restaurant with striploin steak and pasta: MOI

In short

MOI is a pasta and wine restaurant on the 2nd floor of Gongjak Sangga building by Yeouinaru Station in Yeouido, Seoul. For a birthday dinner date, the galbi ragu pasta came to 23,000 won and the Korean beef striploin steak to 48,000 won, and the kkwari green peppers and chamnamul (Korean wild parsley) chimichurri cut the richness so both meat dishes were easy to finish together. MOI is a good choice for a Yeouido celebration dinner when fine dining feels like too much but an ordinary meal feels underwhelming.

It was Mongmongsseu's birthday, so we spent the whole day on a date around Seoul. For the birthday dinner itself, we wanted somewhere with real atmosphere, so we headed to MOI, a well-known spot in Yeouido. The vibe was upscale and the food was delicious — such a satisfying date course for a special day.

How do you find the MOI entrance from Yeouinaru Station?

MOI is on the 2nd floor of the Gongjak Sangga building, and the entrance can be a little tricky to find on your first visit. Even after we reached the spot marked on the map, we ended up wandering around going "wait, where's the entrance?" haha.

As you climb the building's stairs, you'll see a sign on the stairwell that says "MOI 2F." Once you're on the 2nd floor, just follow the arrow on the "MOI Pasta & Wine" sign and head inward.

You have to walk all the way down the corridor before MOI's logo and entrance come into view, so the restaurant isn't visible from the outside right away. Following the stairs and sign shown in the photos should make it much easier to find.

Inside MOI: atmosphere and seating

MOI's interior is decorated mainly in beige tones, giving off a calm, sophisticated feel overall. The place isn't huge, but the tables are spaced relatively generously, so we didn't feel too bothered by neighboring conversations.

Rather than a loud, bustling restaurant, it's the kind of place where you can talk quietly and enjoy your meal, which made it a great fit for a Yeouido date or an anniversary dinner.

Since there aren't that many tables, it might be worth making a reservation ahead of time, especially on weekends.

There's also group seating, so it seems like it would work well for gatherings like wedding invitation get-togethers too.

Plates and cutlery were neatly set on the table, giving off a real fine-dining-restaurant feel haha.

MOI menu and dinner hours

MOI's steak and wine menu

MOI's dinner service runs from 5:00 PM to 9:30 PM. The menu ranges from appetizers like salads, potato gnocchi, and tartare, to pastas, risottos, and steaks.

Rather than the usual pasta dishes, many of them use Korean ingredients like chamnamul (wild chervil), gamtae seaweed, and gosari (bracken fern), which gave the place its own distinct personality. For steaks, there was Korean beef striploin, octopus steak, and pork belly steak.

The two dishes we chose were

  • Galbi ragu pasta ₩23,000
  • Korean beef striploin steak ₩48,000

these two.

The wine list was quite extensive too, so it seemed like a great fit for anyone wanting to pair pasta and steak with wine for a more atmospheric date. We skipped wine this time, but since MOI bills itself as a "Pasta & Wine" spot, I'd love to try some wine on our next visit.

The dishes looked so good just from the visuals that I got even more excited to taste them.

MOI galbi ragu pasta, 23,000 won

A plate of galbi ragu pasta at MOI

First up, the galbi ragu pasta! MOI's signature pasta, made with fresh noodles in a white ragu sauce, galbi (short rib) sauce, and gkwari peppers (Korean shishito-style peppers).

Fresh galbi ragu pasta noodles soaked in sauce

The noodles had soaked up plenty of sauce and still kept that chewy fresh-noodle texture. The sauce was seasoned quite savory, so even though it's a cream sauce it wasn't heavy at all — we ate it up happily.

Gkwari peppers in the galbi ragu pasta

The gkwari peppers are mixed in throughout, adding a slightly spicy kick and aroma here and there that cut through the richness of the cream sauce. At first I wasn't sure gkwari peppers would work in a pasta, but after trying it, they really did their job of balancing the whole dish 👍🏻

MOI Korean beef striploin steak, 48,000 won

MOI's Korean beef striploin steak plating

A birthday meal wouldn't be complete without meat. This is MOI's signature Korean beef striploin steak♡ made with 1+ grade Korean beef striploin, served with fried baby potatoes, carrot puree, onion puree, chamnamul chimichurri, and black pepper sauce.

Cross-section of the striploin steak showing pink interior

The pink cross-section of the meat looked so appetizing right away. The outside was browned nicely while the inside stayed moist, letting us really enjoy the beefy flavor and tender texture of the striploin.

On top of the steak was chamnamul chimichurri, which added a fragrant note that made the beef's flavor even brighter and fresher. Eating it together with the puree underneath brought out a rich, savory flavor.

Fried baby potatoes and puree served with the steak

The fried baby potatoes served alongside were crispy outside and fluffy inside♡ The puree sauce underneath was also surprisingly good dipped with the steak — it had a subtle charm of its own. This wasn't just a plate of meat but a dish where the sauce and garnishes all came together in harmony.

Since the galbi ragu pasta also has meat in it, I worried that ordering both together might feel too heavy, but the gkwari peppers in the pasta and the chamnamul chimichurri on the steak kept adding fresh notes throughout, so it wasn't as filling as I expected.

With the pasta and steak laid out together on the table, it really looked like a proper birthday spread♡ The photos turned out pretty and the calm atmosphere let us relax and chat with Mongmongsseu over the meal😊

Is MOI worth it for a birthday or anniversary date?

Both dishes we ordered that day were meat-centered, so I felt like I'd picked well for Mongmongsseu's birthday dinner, since he loves meat. It's a great choice for when a pricey fine-dining meal feels like too much for a birthday, but an ordinary meal feels like it's not quite enough.

If you're looking for a restaurant with good atmosphere in Yeouido, or planning a slightly special date for a birthday or anniversary, MOI is worth a visit. Ordering the Korean beef striploin steak and galbi ragu pasta together like we did lets you enjoy both meat and pasta, so I'd recommend it as a date-night combo.
