Yangju butcher restaurant with a 3pm lunch cutoff: Manpo Garden

In short

Manpo Garden is a butcher-restaurant in Yangju, Gyeonggi, run next to the Yangju Livestock Cooperative meat shop. Arriving after the lunch rush, we ordered the weekday handmade galbi set (19,000 won per person) with Handon seasoned pork galbi, chadol doenjang sulbap (brisket soybean-paste rice), and house-made bibim naengmyeon (cold buckwheat noodles), plus pudding-style steamed egg for 3,000 won. What is Manpo Garden, the butcher restaurant in Yangju?

Manpo Garden is a butcher-restaurant on Godeok-ro 355beon-gil in Yangju, Gyeonggi. It's run right next to the Yangju Livestock Cooperative meat shop, which made it feel even more trustworthy.

On the way home from Uijeongbu, well past lunchtime, I needed somewhere filling. I'd always noticed the big exterior whenever I passed by and told myself I'd try it someday, so I headed to Manpo Garden.

Manpo Garden building and entrance area

I worried the menu options would be limited for such a late Yangju lunch, but I could still order the weekday handmade galbi set. Authentic handmade galbi made with 100% real ribs, plus chadol doenjang sulbap and hand-pulled naengmyeon — I couldn't just walk past that this time.

Meat alone would've been great, but free naengmyeon too — meat lovers and noodle lovers looking for good Yangju galbi can both expect something here. I ate first to check whether it's a good spot for a family meal out in Yangju.

With no break time, it's easy to visit late, but the weekday lunch menu can only be ordered until 3pm. The lot is spacious so parking was easy, and being right next to the Yangju Livestock Cooperative meat shop made it easy to find.

Does Manpo Garden have a private room for birthdays and groups?

Inside Manpo Garden, the tables were generously spaced, and there was a separate private room for groups. I heard 'Manpo' means to give abundantly.

One side of the store sold Yangju-gol rice, carefully selected Hanwoo beef from the agricultural/livestock co-op, and meal kits like handmade seasoned galbi and galbitang (rib soup). Worth browsing for a Chuseok gift. Running the restaurant right next to the Yangju Livestock Cooperative meat shop made it feel even more trustworthy.

It was also easy to check the location when looking for restaurants in Yangju's Mansong-dong, Goeup-dong, or Gwangsa-dong neighborhoods. If you want a private room restaurant in Yangju or are gathering a large group, it's worth asking about the room first.

Seating was ample for a big group booking or company dinner in Yangju, and the staff responded quickly. Ordering was easy via the table kiosk. I filed it away as a Yangju restaurant with easy parking too.

Manpo Garden menu and prices

The weekday handmade galbi set is 19,000 won per person and comes with seasoned handmade galbi, chadol doenjang sulbap, and naengmyeon. For a Yangju lunch before 3pm on a weekday, going with the set like we did was the satisfying choice. Handon handmade galbi is 19,000 won, Hanwoo grilled bulgogi is 28,000 won, and Hanwoo 1++ sirloin is 42,000 won.

If you're after Hanwoo dishes at a Yangju restaurant, compare sirloin or grilled bulgogi against the galbi set and single galbi order for good Yangju galbi. There's also pork belly, pork neck, and gabrisal (skirt meat), plus galbitang, bone-based jjigae, and yukhoe bibimbap (raw beef tartare rice bowl). Good for family meals when looking for restaurants near Okjeong-dong too.

What comes with the Manpo Garden set: yukhoe and yukjeon too

Manpo Garden table spread with side dishes

After ordering on the kiosk, a full spread of side dishes arrived — cool baek-kimchi (white kimchi), pickled garlic, cucumber peppers with garlic-doenjang paste, mu-saengchae (spicy radish salad), potato salad, and spicy-bitter samchae namul (herb salad).

Complimentary plate of yukjeon (pan-fried beef)

Then yukhoe (raw beef tartare) and yukjeon (pan-fried beef) came out as a complimentary service, and chopsticks got busy before the grilling even began. The yukhoe disappeared the instant it landed, and I warmed the yukjeon briefly over the charcoal.

Sides like salad and pickled onion could be topped up as needed from the self-service corner. The variety of side dishes made it a good fit for a parents' birthday meal or a multi-generation family outing in Yangju.

Since everyone likes different accompaniments, using the self-service corner should cut down on any awkwardness during a Yangju gathering or company dinner.

How does the Handon handmade seasoned galbi set taste?

Plate of Handon handmade seasoned galbi

Today's order was the weekday handmade galbi set. A generous portion of seasoned pork galbi arrived, and I laid the pieces out one by one over the glowing charcoal.

The handmade seasoning, made with 7 kinds of fruits and vegetables, wasn't overly sweet and paired well with the meat's flavor. Using 100% real ribs also matched my reason for choosing the seasoned pork galbi in the first place.

The meat, carrying that charcoal aroma, was juicy, and the more I chewed, the more the seasoning and meat flavor came through together. Galbi is, well, one of those foods that brings back childhood memories — birthdays, school entrance and graduation ceremonies — so it somehow tastes even better and feels more sentimental.

How to grill seasoned galbi over charcoal

Seasoned meat can burn quickly if you're not careful, so I kept the tongs moving and flipped often. Once a piece was cooked enough, I moved it to the edge of the grill and only brought back to the heat what I was about to eat, so it stayed warm throughout.

Meat cooked all the way to the bone

When eating good Yangju galbi, you can't resist the meat around the bone, right? Slowly cooking and picking off the meat clinging to the bone gave the chewiest texture and the strongest meaty flavor. In between bites I paired it with baek-kimchi or pickled onion, and got in some vegetables I don't usually eat at home.

Chadol doenjang sulbap and pudding-style steamed egg (3,000 won)

While eating the meat, I also had some chadol doenjang sulbap (rice in beef-and-soybean-paste broth) on the side. I thought it might be a complimentary extra, but it was actually included in the weekday set. The rich doenjang broth with rice in it was great to spoon up between bites of galbi, and it filled out the Yangju lunch nicely.

The pudding egg custard I added on the side was 3,000 won. This Okjeong, Yangju meat restaurant clearly does a good soft, fluffy egg custard too. It's an easy add — something to share between bites of meat at a company dinner in Yangju, or a kid-friendly dish for a family outing.

Even if you order Hanwoo as your main at this Yangju restaurant, adding the doenjang sulbap or egg custard should win over parents' palates and please the kids too.

Free house-made Hamhung naengmyeon: cold-broth or spicy bibim

The Manpo Garden set includes handmade Hamhung-style naengmyeon (cold buckwheat noodles) for free. By this point I was pretty full, but it felt like a waste to leave without trying the free handmade naengmyeon. We ordered just one bibim naengmyeon (spicy mixed version) between the two of us instead of the water version.

The thin noodles, kneaded daily and hand-pulled after ordering, were evenly coated in a sweet-spicy mixed sauce. Adding a little mustard and vinegar gave a refreshing finish to the palate after the charcoal galbi.

You don't need to seek out a separate naengmyeon restaurant in Yangju — you can go straight from galbi to noodles at the same table, and the free Hamhung naengmyeon is a genuine perk of eating good Yangju galbi here. The finish was good enough that I could see people coming back to Manpo Garden just for the handmade noodles.

Dessert at Manpo Garden: puffed-rice ice cream and coffee

Coffee and puffed rice crackers at the dessert corner

As I was paying and heading out, I spotted a 'ppeong-screamer' machine (puffed rice cracker with soft-serve) near the entrance. After saying I was full, I still put ice cream on a puffed rice cracker — dessert stomach is separate, after all!

With a spacious private room and parking lot, this seems convenient for gatherings and company dinners in Yangju, and being able to choose between Hanwoo and pork galbi makes it easy for a family meal too. It suits occasions like a parents' birthday or a large group booking in Yangju.

The 2026 Cheonilhong (globe amaranth) Festival at Nari Park in Yangju is coming up soon. If you go see the roughly 30 kinds of flowers — globe amaranth, angelonia, cockscomb — and end up craving good Yangju Hanwoo and seasoned galbi, continuing on to a family meal at Manpo Garden sounds great. Just remember to leave a little more room in your stomach next time.
