In short

Drunken Thai Sangam Branch is a Thai restaurant within walking distance of Digital Media City Station in Mapo, Seoul. Weekday lunches mean a wait, but arriving after 8pm (last order 9pm) got this writer straight in for shrimp pad thai at 12,000 won, tom yum goong at 17,000 won and pad kra pao moo sap at 11,000 won, with a free bowl of rice poured into the tom yum goong. Even people who dislike tom yum goong keep eating it here, and Drunken Thai Sangam Branch ranks as the writer's favorite Thai restaurant in Korea.

My favorite Thai restaurant out of every Thai place I've tried in Korea so far.

Drunken Thai Sangam Branch — DRUNKIN THAI

What is Drunken Thai Sangam Branch like inside? A small local-style Thai diner

Drunken Thai Sangam Branch isn't a huge space — it's on the small side — but that coziness actually makes it feel like you've stepped into a small local diner in Thailand 👏👏

Seating and interior decor at Drunken Thai Sangam Branch

I love Thai food and eat pad thai or tom yum goong pretty often, and here both the food and the interior really nail that Thai vibe — so I don't need to hop on a plane to Thailand when the craving hits.

Is there a wait? After 8pm at Drunken Thai, you walk right in

Drunken Thai Sangam Branch is within walking distance of Digital Media City Station.

A Sangam favorite loved by nearby office workers, solo diners passing through DMC, and local residents

On weekdays, waiting is basically mandatory — get your name on the list the moment you arrive! The good news is that turnover is fast, which is a lifesaver when every minute of lunch break counts for office workers 😌 Last order is at 9pm, and when I showed up past 8pm, I got in with no wait at all and plenty of breathing room.

Customers kept walking in past 8pm, and delivery order alerts kept going off nonstop — which basically means eating this at night won't sit heavy on your stomach lol.

The Drunken Thai menu: which dishes come without cilantro?

Drunken Thai's menu board split by cilantro or no cilantro

Before ordering, I did a quick scan of the menu. The five dishes listed up top don't contain cilantro, so they're easy even for people sensitive to that flavor, while the five below do have that cilantro taste. Pad thai, rice noodle soup, and tom yum goong are the basics, and you can also branch out with pad kra pao moo sap, som tam, morning glory, curries, and more.

Free rice and noodle refills at Drunken Thai — request fried noodles before cooking

Top-tier service

At Drunken Thai Sangam Branch, you can add rice or noodles for free. But here's an important tip if you're planning to add fried noodles like pad thai!

For fried noodles, it's best to request the extra noodles before they start cooking

Rather than just adding noodles afterward, asking upfront means the seasoning gets mixed in while cooking, so the sauce soaks into the noodles better and tastes even more delicious — the staff's service is so on point they'll tell you this tip themselves 👍👍👍👍👍👍 Without making it feel pushy either.

Would you like extra rice or noodles?

They asked me first, so it's no secret that I comfortably added extra rice hahahaha.

Ordered a cold Coke and a Sangha soda water each, and it was officially food-vlog time ♡♡♡

Tom yum goong, 17,000 won: pour the free rice straight into the soup

Tom yum goong is Thailand's signature dish, so beloved it's often named alongside French bouillabaisse and Chinese shark fin soup as one of the world's three great soups.

A bowl of tom yum goong with shrimp

Shrimp, lemongrass, shallots and other herbs and local seasonings make up the base.

A broth that's sour, spicy, and carries that distinct herbal aroma

It's definitely a different feel from Korean-style soups, so I imagine it's a love-it-or-hate-it thing for Korean palates 😅😅

If you love Thai food, you'll fall for that herbal aroma and that sour-spicy broth. If you're not used to those spices, it might feel a bit unfamiliar at first — but strangely enough:

Drunken Thai's tom yum goong is addictive enough to win over even people who don't usually like tom yum goong

There's rice noodle soup already inside the hot broth, so slurp it up happily 🦐 ✔️ Tip: add extra rice and pour it right into the tom yum goong.

Pad kra pao moo sap, 11,000 won: break the egg yolk and mix it through

Pad kra pao moo sap is a rice bowl of pork stir-fried with Thai basil and chili, served with rice. It has that distinct Thai aroma, but since it's basically rice with meat, it can feel surprisingly familiar. If pad thai is the noodle option, pad kra pao moo sap is the rice option — great to order both and share if you're with a group 🍯

Pop that egg yolk and mix it in thoroughly (this is one dish nobody could possibly dislike).

Shrimp pad thai, 12,000 won: two kinds of shrimp, piled on

Pad thai is a great, low-pressure entry point even for people trying Thai food for the first time. You can choose shrimp, seafood, or chicken.

When it comes to pad thai, shrimp is really the way to go 👍

Two kinds of shrimp packed in generously — great texture, even better mood 🤤 A classic Thai fried noodle appeal where sweet, salty, and sour sauce all come together.

Ask for chili flakes, and there's crushed peanuts on the table too if you want to boost the nutty flavor even more. When you're a little tired of the Korean food, snack food, or soup and rice you eat every day around Sangam DMC, this makes for a refreshingly different lunch. Good stuff, good stuff 🔥

Which days is Drunken Thai Sangam Branch closed?

✔️ It used to be closed on Mondays, but people loved it so much that it's now open every single day — so don't worry about closing days and just go whenever.
