Haeundae crab restaurant with a soy shrimp add-on: Deodo Gejang

I went on a Busan trip last weekend :) Since we booked a place near Haeundae, I naturally ended up searching for a lot of Haeundae Marine City restaurants! I've been a gejang (soy or spicy marinated crab) killer since I was little, so once we were by the sea I thought, let's eat some gejang! That's how I ended up at Deodo Gejang.

What the three-month-old Deodo Gejang dining room feels like

Having opened about 3 months ago, Deodo Gejang was really clean and spacious. As soon as we walked in, the staff kindly showed us to our seats! Even though we were just two people, they gave us a big table, which was so nice!

We kept debating what to order even on the way over.. As a proper Haeundae Marine City restaurant, they had all kinds of set combos at reasonable prices, so we agonized over the menu for a while!!

We debated getting grilled fish too, but since we came to a gejang restaurant, we figured we should really go for the crab, so we ordered the yellow crab pot rice full-course spread with one soy and one marinated crab :) I always thought eating gejang out was pretty pricey, but even using Jeju yellow crab, Deodo Gejang, this Haeundae gejang restaurant, was so reasonably priced..!!

Yellow crab pot rice set for two, ₩36,000. A full spread that filled that big table completely. Gejang, basic side dishes, doenjang jjigae, ttukbaegi bulgogi, pot rice and more — I was surprised at how generous it was.

There was way more tender crab than expected, enough for at least one, actually two bowls of rice.

Why an order for two comes with ttukbaegi bulgogi

On top of that, bulgogi that wasn't even part of the set showed up, and I was like, huh? Turns out the set includes doenjang jjigae per person, so instead of giving 2 doenjang jjigaes for an order of two, they swap one in for bulgogi, it seems ㄷㄷ Such a thoughtful, generous touch from Deodo Gejang..

How the Jeju yellow crab soy gejang tasted

Look at how meaty this crab is..!! You know that texture you get right away with frozen crab, right?

That texture and taste.. But with Deodo Gejang's crab, the moment you take a bite, rich, creamy crab meat just pours out, and it was so delicious. Eating a whole mouthful of sweet, creamy gejang made me so happy ㅠㅠ

With the marinated crab, the first bite was sweeter, but as I kept eating, the spiciness gradually rose up!! It wasn't overly spicy though, just the perfect sweet-and-spicy marinated crab flavor. Wrapped in gim (seaweed) with rice, it was an absolute rice thief. I normally prefer marinated crab way more than soy crab, but even so, the soy crab here was so good. I always thought soy crab has more of that fishy taste compared to marinated crab, but this had none of that fishiness, just sweet and creamy and so tasty that we kept going back and forth between the two..

Adding 2 marinated crabs (₩12,000) and 3 soy shrimp (₩5,000)

Extra marinated crab (2 crabs, ₩12,000), soy shrimp (3 shrimp, ₩5,000). The regular portion was already plenty, but since it had been a while since we'd had gejang, we lost all sense of restraint and ordered more haha. Both the marinated and soy versions were so good that we went marinated for the crab and soy for the shrimp!

The shrimp were plump and absolutely delicious too. If you love shrimp, definitely try these for just ₩5,000..

Is Deodo Gejang good for solo diners or families with kids?

With options beyond just gejang — bulgogi, grilled fish, pot rice and more — there were a lot of families with babies, and solo-diner sets were available too, so solo diners came in as well!! We saw plenty of tourists like us, but also tons of Busan locals, making this a real Haeundae local favorite.

I've tried several Haeundae Marine City restaurants, but Deodo Gejang had great value and top-tier taste!! Highly recommend it as a Busan gejang restaurant. A Haeundae spot I recommend to fellow gejang lovers like us!! Go visit Deodo Gejang in Haeundae.
