Today I'm bringing you a review of Munhwa Bakery, a total hotspot in Jongno that people line up for, haha. It's especially famous for its garlic bread, and it looked like a lot of foreign visitors were buying it too. Jongno has so many great bakeries, and this is definitely one to recommend! Munhwa Bakery also has a nice meaning behind it — they only sell bread baked that day, and whatever doesn't sell goes to people in need! The bread was delicious and the owner was so kind, so let me tell you all about my visit ✨

What Munhwa Bakery looks like and how the Jongno 3-ga queue works

Munhwa Bakery's interior is small, so only 2 groups enter at a time while everyone else waits outside. There's a sign out front that just says '빵' (bread), so it was easy to find, haha. Honestly, it had that famous-bakery look from the outside already!!

What breads does Munhwa Bakery sell?

There were tons of breads made with nuts like injeolmi (sweet rice cake) flavor and peanut, plus cheese, cream, condensed milk, red bean paste, and plain loaf types, along with onion bagels and garlic bread!

I thought the bread on display was all there was, but there was actually a whole cart full of bread, individually packaged, and they'd pull one out for you at a time, haha. Maybe that's why the turnover was so fast and I could grab my bread right away — very convenient.

I bought garlic bread, sweet potato bread, and peanut bread!

Garlic bread: crisp outside, moist inside even after it cools

Honestly,, my boyfriend and I both agreed this was the best garlic bread we've ever had. How can it be this soft??? It had cooled down a bit on the way home, but it was still so good. There was so much garlic sauce packed inside, and it had that crisp-outside, moist-inside feel where I felt like I could eat three by myself. I really regretted only buying one garlic bread ㅠ Next time I want to bring home like five.

Sweet potato bread: a quick microwave zap the next day

The sweet potato bread has sweet potato paste inside, and the outside has a bit of a crumble topping. I microwaved this one briefly the next day, and it was light and delicious. It didn't taste artificial at all — it tasted like real sweet potato! That's probably why it's so popular. The crumble on top was really nice too, haha.

Peanut bread: peanut cream inside, peanut streusel on top

Last up, peanut bread. It's spread with peanut cream inside, and the outside is coated with peanuts and a peanut crumble, so it was tasty. I also microwaved this one briefly, and it was moist and delicious. The peanut cream was especially nutty and good, haha.
