Hanam Misa udon restaurant: whole shrimp tempura udon at Roi Sikdang

In short

Roi Sikdang Hanam Misa Main Branch is a Japanese home-style rice bowl restaurant near Mangwolcheon Stream in Hanam Misa, Gyeonggi. Lunch just before break time was the herb-cured salmon rice bowl at 15,900 won and the tempura udon at 14,900 won, which comes with whole shrimp tempura, kimchi jeon (kimchi pancake) and gimmari (seaweed-rolled noodles); the salmon was soft with no fishy edge and the udon broth stayed light rather than salty. Roi Sikdang is an easy pick in Misa on a day you want a meal that is filling but not heavy or spicy.

The wooden sign and the rice of the day: Gyeongju Samgwang and Buyeo Sindongjin

From the outside, Roi Sikdang Hanam Misa Main Branch has a wooden sign and a wreath decoration hanging up, so it felt like stepping into a small-town restaurant in Japan. Inside, the ceilings are high so it doesn't feel cramped, and trees are visible through the window, which made the atmosphere really comfortable. On the wall there was a framed brand story that explained how the owner's father used to run a rice mill in Gyeongju. Carrying on that spirit, they mix Gyeongju Samgwang rice with Buyeo Sindongjin rice and cook it with natural bedrock water from Jirisan.

On one part of the wall there was also a handwritten "today's rice" board, and that day it said Gimje Sindongjin rice with the milling date written on it too, so you could tell they care about freshness.

Roi Sikdang menu and prices: salmon rice bowl 15,900 won, tempura udon 14,900 won

There's a kiosk right at the entrance, so you can pick and order comfortably as you walk in. The herb-cured salmon rice bowl is ₩15,900 solo or ₩17,900 as a set, and the tempura udon, which comes with shrimp tempura, kimchi jeon (kimchi pancake), and gimmari (fried seaweed rolls), was ₩14,900. There were also lots of other options, like the pesticide-free onggi-aged yuzu salmon jang, Kanto-style sukiyaki for two, beef belly rice bowl, eggplant tempura meat rice bowl, and a 100% fresh cream mentaiko (pollock roe) pasta.

The herb-cured salmon rice bowl came with a thick pile of salmon on top, and it was so soft!

Close-up of the salmon rice bowl with garnish and gamtae seaweed

With the garnish arranged so nicely, it looked great from the start. I love the gamtae (roasted seaweed flakes) so much. At first I just ate the salmon on its own, then mixed it into the rice later, and since the salmon was so fresh there wasn't a hint of fishy smell — really clean.

The tempura udon came with a whole shrimp tempura on top, plus a generous amount of fish cake, fried tofu skin, scallions, and crown daisy. The broth wasn't harsh at all, just mild and clean — I'm calling this a certified tempura udon spot!

Arriving right before break time on a third visit to Roi Sikdang

I went right before break time, and on my way out I saw the staff eating their own meal — two of them were having udon too. And the pickled radish here is delicious and cute. Last week I had the Kanto-style sukiyaki, and this time I came back because I was curious about a different menu item. I'd also visited once around when they first opened, so I was glad to see they're still going strong.

Roi Sikdang's receipt review event

Roi Sikdang is a Hanam Misa spot that makes food with good ingredients and nothing too heavy or spicy. They're also running a receipt review event — leave a review with a photo or text and you get a free shrimp gimmari or a canned drink. Don't forget to take part : )

If you're craving a salmon rice bowl or tempura udon in Hanam Misa, or you get hungry after a date or a walk at Misa Riverside Park, I recommend Roi Sikdang Hanam Misa Main Branch!
