Hanam Misa Japanese eatery: gim-wrapped salmon jang at Roi Sikdang
In short
Roi Sikdang Hanam Misa Main Branch is a Japanese home-style restaurant tucked into a residential alley near Mangwolcheon Stream in Hanam, Gyeonggi. Lunch here was the organic jar-aged Yuja Salmon Jang Set, and the wall sign listing today's rice variety and milling date plus the aging jars under the display case back it up; wrapping rice and salmon jang in gim (dried seaweed sheet) was the best way to eat it. With salmon jang, rice, soup and sides arriving as one full table, Roi Sikdang works just as well for solo diners as for a family meal.

I was looking for something light for lunch near Mangwolcheon Stream in Hanam Misa and ended up at Roi Sikdang Hanam Misa Main Branch. I already love salmon jang, so when I heard they serve it Japanese home-style with a touch of yuzu, I got curious. Wondering what it would taste like, I ordered the Yuja Salmon Jang Set and took my time enjoying it.

Walking along Mangwolcheon Stream, the entrance of Roi Sikdang came into view. Out front stood a signboard with the restaurant's name and business hours.

Phrases like "Real, home-cooked rice bowl" and "The place that does salmon jang right" were printed on it, so I immediately knew what the signature dish was.

What are the interior and seating like at Roi Sikdang?
Stepping inside Roi Sikdang Hanam Misa Main Branch, the first thing I noticed was a clean space with wooden tables and soft lighting. There are tables for two and four, plus bench-style seating along the wall. By the window there's also a table for four, so you can choose based on your group size.
Tables can be pushed together for larger groups, which makes this a good spot for family meals or small gatherings too.
Amenities: Wi-Fi, high chair and kiosk
One side of the restaurant has Wi-Fi info and a baby chair set up, which is handy if you're visiting with family.
An open kitchen you can see from your table
The kitchen is open, so you can catch glimpses of the cooking in progress. The warm wood-toned counter and neatly arranged dishware stood out. Little props on the ceiling shelves and soft lighting added to a cozy, comfortable atmosphere for the meal.
Wooden furniture, soft lighting, and vintage props all came together for a relaxed feel. Handwritten signatures and messages from past customers were visible here and there on the walls, giving off that humble, warm vibe typical of Japanese home-style restaurants.
Today's rice: variety and milling date on the wall
One thing that stood out was the "today's rice" sign on the wall. On the day I visited, it read Gimje Sindongjin rice, milled on 08.24.
According to the restaurant's own note, they place importance on rice because of the owner's father, who used to run a small rice mill in Gyeongju. It also mentioned using Gyeongju Samgwang rice, Sindongjin rice, and natural bedrock water from Jirisan. Even though it's rice you eat every day, seeing the exact variety and milling date posted made it clear how much care goes into each meal.

By the window there was a sign introducing Roi Sikdang's signature menu, the organic jar-aged yuja salmon jang. It explained the benefits of yuzu along with the 24-hour jar-aging process, which built up my expectations for the dish. Under the window, small retro-style illustration frames were neatly arranged, adding warmth and comfort to the space.
Ordering at the kiosk is quick and easy
There's a kiosk at the entrance for ordering and payment. Wi-Fi info was posted there too, and the tidy entrance area gave off a comfortable feel.

How does the jar-aged Yuja Salmon Jang Set taste?
What I ordered this time was Roi Sikdang's organic jar-aged Yuja Salmon Jang Set.

Roi Sikdang's yuzu salmon jang is aged for 24 hours in organic clay jars, and under the display case you could actually see jars aging. Watching them while waiting for the food built up my curiosity about the dish.

A little while later, the Yuja Salmon Jang Set arrived with a generous portion of salmon jang in the center, topped with radish sprouts, chives, chili, and wasabi — it looked really appetizing.

The salmon had a soft, moist texture, and the salty jang with a hint of yuzu made it clean and easy to eat. Piling the salmon jang over warm rice paired nicely with the plain, savory rice.

Adding a touch of wasabi brought in a sharp kick you could adjust to taste, and wrapping rice and salmon jang together in gim (dried seaweed sheet) worked really well too.

A full table, right down to the side dishes
The Yuja Salmon Jang Set came with more than just salmon jang and rice — it also included a warm soup, gim, sautéed mushrooms, kkakdugi (diced radish kimchi), and pickled radish.

Wrapping rice and salmon jang in gim added a subtle ocean aroma that made for a nice change of pace.

There was also a single piece of takoyaki topped with bonito flakes and sauce, a nice light bite in between.
To finish, pineapple and orange came out too. Sweet and refreshing, they were a good way to clean the palate after the meal.

Final verdict on Roi Sikdang Hanam Misa
The Yuja Salmon Jang Set I tried this time had soft salmon and a subtle yuzu aroma that worked well together for a clean, enjoyable meal. With warm rice, gim, soup, and several sides all included, it made for a satisfying full table.
What stuck with me most was being able to check today's rice variety and milling date, and seeing the jar-aging process for the yuzu salmon jang firsthand. It's walkable from Misa Station, has seating from two-tops to four-tops plus larger group seating and a baby chair, so it works well whether you're dining solo, with family, or at a casual get-together.
