Seodaemun rice bowl restaurant with window seats: Sunhui Dining
In short
Sunhui Dining is a rice bowl restaurant in Seodaemun, Seoul. We waited about 15 minutes on a weekday evening for regular and spicy butadon, with free refills of rice and side dishes. The window counter seats and refills make Sunhui Dining a comfortable choice for eating alone.

What are the seats for eating alone like?

Sunhui Dining (순희다이닝) was on the second floor of a building close to Ewha Womans University Station. There was a long table in front of the window that looked comfortable for eating alone, and I actually saw office workers who had come by themselves. It had a neat, cute atmosphere, so it also seemed like a perfectly nice spot for a meal with friends or a date.

On a weekday evening, we waited about 15 minutes in front of the restaurant before being seated. The restroom was half a floor down outside the restaurant, so we had to take the key and go downstairs; that was a little disappointing.

How do ordering and refills work?

After sitting down, we ordered directly on a tablet. The menu was simple, with three kinds of rice bowls and drinks.

We could have more miso soup, side dishes, rice, and rice-bowl sauce for free. Cabbage salad and baekgimchi (white kimchi) came alongside, and the baekgimchi in particular was nice to eat between the salty bites of the rice bowl. We could add more rice at the self-service bar, so even the bowls with extra meat made for a filling meal.

How did the regular and spicy butadon differ?

My friends ordered spicy butadon (pork rice bowl, ₩10,000) with extra meat, while I had regular butadon (₩9,500) with extra meat. Adding meat cost ₩3,500 and added 150 g.

The spicy butadon was easy to eat without feeling greasy, but it was definitely spicy. If you are not good with spicy food, the regular option would probably be better. The regular butadon had a soy sauce-based seasoning and was eaten with wasabi, and that one suited my taste better. My friends preferred the spicy butadon.

What might be disappointing on a return visit?

The window seats for solo diners and the refill setup were great, but the range of meal options was not wide at the time. Personally, I was also disappointed that they did not sell alcohol, so there was no highball or similar option to have with the butadon.
