Yongin Korean restaurant for a female crab set: Sotbap Hansang

In short

Sotbap Hansang is a spacious Korean restaurant in Yongin, Gyeonggi, opposite Sangdeok Fishing Site. We ordered the soy-marinated female crab set for two and enjoyed pot rice, crisp grilled flounder, jeon, side dishes, and nurungji. Sotbap Hansang is a satisfying choice for a family meal with a little bit of everything.

Sotbap Hansang's soy-marinated female crab set spread in Yongin
Soy-marinated female crab and pot rice set meal

At Sotbap Hansang, a great spot in Cheoin-gu, Yongin, we had such a generous soy-marinated female crab set, from pot rice and grilled fish to jeon (Korean savory pancakes) and all kinds of side dishes. It was a place where the whole table—from the soy-marinated crab and crispy grilled flounder to warm jeon and finishing nurungji (scorched rice)—made for a wonderfully filling meal.

Sotbap Hansang in Idong-eup, Yongin: atmosphere and information

Located in Idong-eup, Cheoin-gu, Yongin, Sotbap Hansang sits right opposite Sangdeok Fishing Site, and even the shape of the building feels completely unlike an ordinary restaurant! Around the entrance after parking, there are pine trees, dol hareubang stone statues, and a little garden, creating the relaxed feel of a Korean restaurant out on the outskirts.

Once inside, though, it has a clean, comfortable Korean-restaurant atmosphere unlike the exterior. The tables are nicely spaced, and the restaurant itself is roomy, so it looked like a good place for a family meal or a visit with a larger group.

Before our food came out, we had a quick look around the self-serve station.

They told us we could help ourselves to extra basic side dishes, as well as pumpkin porridge and miyeok-guk (seaweed soup). So before the meal, we started with a bowl of warm pumpkin porridge! It was smooth and sweet, perfect for waking up the appetite, and it was nice to be able to get warm seaweed soup too.

And then the full spread arrived! We ordered it expecting soy-marinated crab, but once all the food came out, it was generous enough to fill the whole table.

Centered around the soy-marinated female crab were pot rice and grilled flounder,

along with plenty of side dishes to enjoy with them, including japchae (stir-fried glass noodles), assorted namul seasoned vegetables, kimchi, and roasted seaweed.

The crab came neatly prepared for easy eating, and the orange roe visible in the shell and body made it look properly impressive from the start. Put some soy-marinated crab over a spoonful of hot pot rice, and honestly, that is just the kind of combination that makes the rice disappear!

It was delicious wrapped in seaweed with rice and crab too, and with this and that side dish added in, one bowl of pot rice went down in no time.

The grilled flounder was also much tastier than expected! A whole fish came out, and the outside was grilled really crisp. The skin was crunchy, while the flesh inside was white, thick, and tender, making it great to eat alongside the soy-marinated crab here and there.

Jeon is included in the soy-marinated female crab set too. It was nicely golden-brown, crispy around the edges and moist inside! We ordered one set, but with soy-marinated crab, grilled fish, and jeon all continuing to arrive, it really was fun getting to try a little of so many things, like a full Korean course meal.

Each of the basic side dishes was tasty too, and the variety from namul to kimchi made it feel like we were having a properly laid-out home-style meal.

A hearty meal finished with nurungji

The rice comes as hot pot rice. First, scoop out the rice, then pour water into the pot; while you eat, the nurungji is made. After enjoying plenty of soy-marinated crab and pot rice, a spoonful of the warm, softened nurungji at the end was just the perfect finish.

Starting with pumpkin porridge, then soy-marinated female crab, grilled flounder, jeon, lots of side dishes, and finally nurungji, we were seriously full, haha. Rather than a meal that ends with just one main dish, I think Sotbap Hansang's biggest strength is that you can try small portions of so many different Korean foods.

If you are looking in Cheoin-gu, Yongin for a Korean restaurant to visit with your parents or for a family meal, this is a solid choice. Especially if you love soy-marinated crab, I think it would be nice to have a hearty full spread with the soy-marinated female crab set, pot rice, grilled flounder, and jeon. We ate really well and left very full that day :)
