First photo from a visit to Omi Katsu in Godeok, Pyeongtaek

My husband and I went out for dinner together for the first time in a while haha. Somewhere we could both enjoy curry and tonkatsu (pork cutlet) — this place, Omi Katsu!! We drove and parked in the alleys nearby haha.

Omi Katsu hours and the free beer opening event in Godeok, Pyeongtaek

Omi Katsu is open from 10:30am, until 21:45 Monday through Friday, and until 19:00 on Saturdays!! There's no break time~! Last order is 21:15 Mon–Fri and 18:30 Sat, so keep that in mind.

The highlight here is Omi Katsu's opening event!! Guests who enter between 5pm and 7pm get a free bottle of Terra beer or a glass of draft beer.

On top of that, their slogan reads...

  • Crispy handmade tonkatsu
  • Curry made with care
  • Fresh ingredients used
  • Taste and satisfaction — all OK!

Isn't all of that basically calling us over...!? And with free draft beer on top, how could we pass this by ㅜㅜ Doors open, we walked straight in~

A spacious restaurant in Godeok's Samsung complex, with group seating

Omi Katsu, located in Godeok's Samsung complex area, turned out to be a pretty spacious restaurant. It looked great for both lunch and dinner. There's seating you could bring a group to without any worry!! Everything was kept so neat and tidy, you could tell the owner puts in real effort.

What's on the Omi Katsu menu and how much does it cost?

The menu was really varied. Broadly speaking it splits into tonkatsu and curry/noodle dishes. Pork loin katsu set ₩12,000, pork tenderloin katsu set ₩13,000, cheese katsu set ₩15,000. You can also mix and match — loin+tenderloin, loin+cheese katsu, tenderloin+cheese katsu. Beyond tonkatsu there's cold soba, fried tofu udon, fish cake udon, kimchi fish cake udon, minced-meat curry rice, minced-meat curry udon, and more!

Still, nothing beats a set menu where you get to try a bit of everything!! We ordered the minced-meat curry rice set and the cold soba set. Honestly, it's basically enough food for four people, so at ₩23,000 and ₩18,000, the value is unbeatable!!!

What's at the Omi Katsu self-serve bar?

Omi Katsu's self-serve corner had kimchi, pickled radish, and jalapeños? — with broth and flakes right next to them. It was great being able to just help yourself, and being self-serve meant we could pile on as much as we wanted haha.

For some reason my husband skipped the broth (probably trying to cut calories haha), but I can't resist udon broth, so I was happy to drink as much as I wanted. And the flakes — aren't those just great too! There was also a rice cooker, so you could serve yourself rice as well. Omi Katsu really doesn't hold back when it comes to food, love that~

The minced-meat curry rice set and cold soba set: enough for four

And then our food arrived. The minced-meat curry rice set came with curry rice and cheese katsu first. Oh...is this insane or what?!?! The portion was genuinely huge and it was so, so good. It's ₩23,000, and honestly this alone is plenty for two people!!! The curry rice comes topped with minced meat and can be enjoyed in all kinds of combinations.

And then my cold soba set!! I wondered if the katsu would be small because of the name 'cold soba set,' but nope, absolutely not. It came with a whole piece each of tenderloin katsu and loin katsu — more than enough to cover two people. The value here is seriously insane, isn't it...?

Cold soba set with tenderloin and loin katsu

The taste was genuinely incredible... I was losing my mind... Where else can you get tonkatsu of this quality at this price? Probably nowhere but Omi Katsu in Godeok, Pyeongtaek. Both our eyes went wide, so we checked the delivery app Baedal Minjok out of curiosity, and lol... same price on delivery too... How is that even possible!!! And the taste is genuinely insane, so good.

Generous portion of cold soba at Omi Katsu

The cold soba portion was huge too, great for sharing between two. Something men's soul food genuinely can't resist. Maybe that's why there were so many male customers — I noticed a lot of them ordering the cold soba set or the udon set lol. Such big eaters. If I came with friends, I think two of us could easily split just one set.

How do Omi Katsu's minced-meat curry rice and cheese katsu taste?

The number one reason my husband picked Omi Katsu was, hands down, this minced-meat curry rice. It started with him going 'I want curry... really good curry!!' and searching this place up lol. The minced-meat curry rice was genuinely delicious, packed with what tasted like a family secret sauce!!! The garlic flakes on top were also great.

We both agreed, unanimously — this cheese katsu is really... the best. I've had cheese katsu plenty of places before, but this cheese isn't that kind of cheese. It's genuinely real cheese!!!!!! It crossed my mind that this might be close to the feeling of the cheese katsu at Yeondon that Baek Jong-won discovered. This quality at this price? Is that even allowed... genuinely so satisfying.

That doesn't mean the other tenderloin and loin katsu fall short, though? Nope, those were also insane ㅠㅠㅠ The tenderloin katsu was juicy and delicious, and the loin katsu was the textbook definition of tonkatsu. Dipped in salt, great. Dipped in sauce, great. Topped with wasabi, also genuinely delicious — that's Omi Katsu for you~

Two set menus shared between two people at Omi Katsu

The bottled beer from the opening event went with the meal so well, made it even more delicious. Looking at it now... we ate what was meant for four people between the two of us. No wonder we can't help but gain weight.... And me, who can't live without kimchi, made sure to finish off all the kimchi too.

Four menu combinations at Omi Katsu

With four different menu items, mixing and matching bites between us was really fun, and every single thing was delicious without exception, so... how could we leave any behind... (we finished it all)

Why dinner beats lunch at Omi Katsu

It was such a satisfying meal, and I'm glad we came. It's great for lunch too, but going for dinner and grabbing that free draft or bottled beer from the opening event is highly recommended! Going in the evening also felt more relaxed, with more room to enjoy the meal unhurried. Maybe that's why I saw quite a few regulars stopping by in the evening too haha.

From now on, if I want tonkatsu in Godeok, it's going to be Omi Katsu and nowhere else. A satisfying, very satisfying meal — that's my review~
