First visit to a Yeonnam-dong bakery: milk cream bun at Mandong Jegwa

Where is Mandong Jegwa Yeonnam Branch, and what are the hours?

Mandong Jegwa Yeonnam Branch is at 32 Yeonhui-ro, Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, and it's open daily from 11am to 9pm. Apparently the bread can sell out later in the day though. I visited on a weekday around noon!

I went to Yeonnam-dong and stopped by Mandong Jegwa Yeonnam Branch, a place any bread lover has probably heard of 🥐🤎 I love bread and tend to hunt down good bakeries whenever I'm in Yeonnam-dong, and Mandong Jegwa was somewhere I'd been curious about for a while, so I finally paid a visit. There's one Mandong Jegwa in Gangneung and one at the Seoul Yeonnam branch!

It's a bit off the main Yeonnam-dong street, so you kind of discover it while strolling around.

I finally made it here!!!! Mandong Jegwa!!!!!

Parking and seating: eat your bread at the nearby Ediya

There's no parking at Mandong Jegwa Yeonnam Branch, but if you order one item per person, you can sit at the nearby Ediya and enjoy your Mandong Jegwa bread there. A collab between Ediya and Mandong Jegwa, hehe.

Bread lineup at Mandong Jegwa, from garlic baguette to mugwort rice-cake bread

Walking into the store, so many different breads were on display that I spent ages deciding what to pick haha. I wanted to eat everything!!!!!! Mandong Jegwa is especially known for its garlic baguette as the signature item, but they also sell cappuccino bread, basil tomato, onion bagel, cucumber baguette, kaya coconut, mugwort rice cake, and red bean cream buns, among others.

Every single bread looked different, so just browsing was fun ❤️ Looking at all the breads on display, it felt like such a shame to only pick one 😂

For a few of the breads, if you just told them which ones you wanted, they'd bag them up right away without putting them on a tray.

This is the mugwort bread, and honestly the mugwort aroma paired really well with the soft dough.

How does the ungdungi-bbang milk cream bun taste?

I bought Mandong Jegwa Yeonnam's ungdungi-bbang ("butt bread") because the name was so funny, and when I cut it in half, it was packed with milk cream inside. The round, cute shape of ungdungi-bbang 🍑🤎 caught my eye from the start. It looked soft on the outside, and when I tasted it, the dough was moist and chewy — tastier than I expected!

Satisfying just to look at 😍 The cream was soft and sweet, and eating it together with the bread made for a really good combo. It didn't feel like a heavy or dry cream bread — it was light and easy to eat, and it went perfectly with coffee ☕️

The name is cute and the shape is cute, so it seems like it would make a good gift too. If you like cream bread, this is one worth trying at least once 💕 It was fun to photograph because it's so cute, and the taste held up too, so I was satisfied!!

With some breads even kept refrigerated, this is a Yeonnam-dong bread spot and bakery favorite — Mandong Jegwa Yeonnam Branch. It's a great stop if you're on a date in Yeonnam-dong and suddenly crave good bread, or if you're looking for a Yeonnam-dong bakery-hopping course.
