Sinchon burger set with 5 free sauces and coleslaw: Bas Burger
In short
Bas Burger Yonsei Cancer Hospital Branch is a handmade burger restaurant at the basement arcade entrance by Severance Hospital's main gate in Seodaemun, Seoul. After an outpatient visit at Severance, the writer had a Wasabi Mayo Shrimp Burger on its own plus a Bas Burger set with the side swapped to coleslaw and the drink to zero-sugar cola, and used the free potato chips given to dine-in customers with all five free sauces — house sauce, pollack roe mayo, BBQ, ranch and honey mustard. Bas Burger felt more polished than the big burger chains, making it an easy recommendation near Sinchon and Yonsei University.

The Bas Burger I enjoyed most during my week-long stay at Severance Hospital earlier this year. I ate hospital food while my husband kept buying these to share with me — we had it together several times back then. Coming back for an outpatient visit after a while, I stopped by during lunch.

It was nearly full, but luckily seats turned over fast enough that we found a spot.

A casual interior, as you'd expect from a burger place. There were both 4-tops and 2-tops, and the vibe felt totally fine for solo dining. Plenty of hospital staff and quite a few foreign customers too.

You order at the kiosks — one outside, two inside.
Bas Burger menu and prices in Seodaemun

The Bas Burger seems to be the signature item. Single prices:
- Sriracha Cheese Burger ₩7,300
- Bas Burger ₩8,200
- The Bas Burger ₩13,100
- Wasabi Mayo Shrimp Burger ₩10,900

The Bas Burger combo with a drink is ₩11,500. Usually at burger places the combo means burger, fries, and drink, but here's the real reason the combo is the best pick..!
Free potato chips for dine-in customers at Bas Burger

Because the chips are free!!! At the self-bar in the middle of the restaurant, there's a big basket piled with chips.

The chips sit under a warmer to stay warm. This is for dine-in customers who ordered a main menu item, and it's not included with takeout. Feels like a service menu concept for dine-in guests — takeout chips are ₩2,500.

Ketchup's right beside it too. And these chips are so crispy and delicious, ugh.
Which five sauces come free with a Bas Burger order?
Another special service at Bas Burger is the variety of sauces on offer! Tell a staff member and they'll give you sauces separately — you can take as many kinds as you like. Take them all if you want! Bas Burger house sauce, pollack roe mayo, BBQ, ranch, and honey mustard are all free. The cheongyang pepper red mayo dip and truffle mayo dip cost extra.

Personally, this part really satisfied me — even with just one burger, you get to enjoy a variety of flavors. Plenty of sauce makes everything taste better, and dipping into different sauces makes eating so much more fun. And the sauces themselves are all so good!!
Wasabi Mayo Shrimp Burger and the coleslaw-swapped Bas Burger set
We ordered a single Wasabi Mayo Shrimp Burger and a Bas Burger set. For the set, we swapped the side to coleslaw and the drink to zero-sugar cola.

The soft leaf greens, tomato, patty, onion — every ingredient is clearly visible. I liked that nothing was crushed or hidden under sauce; the fresh ingredients were plainly on display.

We split them in half to share. You can see the Bas Burger house sauce right away on the Bas Burger. Overall, the burgers weren't skimpy on sauce, so they were moist and full of flavor.

I generally like burgers and sandwiches, and lately I somehow ended up cycling through a lot of chain burgers — but while Bas Burger also feels like a chain, honestly it's much tastier than the big chain burgers.

The patty isn't super thick, but the flavor really comes through. If Bas Burger were closer to me I'd probably come all the time — too bad, ugh.

The Wasabi Mayo Shrimp Burger. Inside there's plump char-grilled shrimp and fried onions. No meat patty, so it's not greasy at all. With just shrimp, vegetables, and bread it could easily feel too light, but the onion rings fill in for the missing patty.

The wasabi gives it a refreshing kick, and the mayo sauce brings savory, hearty depth — a delicious combination.

The coleslaw came in a generous portion and was tasty too. Now that I'm older, fries with a burger feel too heavy, so I always swap for coleslaw or corn salad — this one was nice and refreshing haha. The mushroom burger looks like it'd be good too, and the whole menu feels this polished, so I bet everything here is tasty. Totally recommend this as a Sinchon food spot or a Yonsei University food spot.
