Today I went to Gwangalli for lunch with my family at Donbegi Gwang-an Branch! They have a family mixed platter that's great for four people to eat their fill, and best of all it's a barbecue restaurant that allows dogs, so we got to bring our pup along too 🐶 ෆ The staff grilled the meat for us, so it was such a relaxed family meal after a while haha.

We arrived at Donbegi for our family meal out in Gwangalli ✶ ˚ * ・ You could spot Donbegi from far away! They use both the 1st and 2nd floors, so it was a bigger barbecue restaurant than I expected. Doesn't the exterior already give off that 'they know what they're doing with meat' vibe? ૮ ˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶ ა

There was a menu board right at the entrance so you could take in the whole menu at a glance! Prices, what meal dishes were available... (a lazy person's dream, no need to search ahead of time) And dog-friendly seating too!!!!!!!! We brought our pup along.

Parking in Gwangalli: do you really get 2 hours free?

If you drive to Gwangalli, parking is always the first thing on your mind ㅠㅠ We parked at the Seohee Star Hills garage they directed us to and came up. Eating there gets you 2 hours of free parking, which made it easy for our family of four to come in one car 🚗 One less thing to worry about parking-wise in Gwangalli is a bigger deal than you'd think?!

The atmosphere across both floors and the self bar

Walking in, there was a wine display and a fridge for storing meat right at the entrance — little details like that made me think this place is well managed!

Inside, it wasn't the loud, old-school barbecue joint vibe — more of a place good for family meals or gatherings. There were several tables set up, and there was a more private space further inside too! I heard the 2nd floor has rooms, which sounds great for spending quiet time with family.

This is the self bar, and going further in there's a restroom and sink, good for washing your hands haha.

There was an explanation about the meat written on the wall, which was nice to read haha. It said 480 hours of aging, and after tasting it, it's definitely worth the wait ^^

A barbecue restaurant you can bring your dog to

And one reason we picked Donbegi that day! Dogs are allowed 🐾 We brought our dog along that day too, and it was so nice for a family meal out that we didn't have to leave the pup at home ㅠㅠ Worth reading up on if you're planning a visit!

Side dishes and myeongran (pollock roe) sauce

Don't the side dishes look so neatly plated too? Julienned radish, kelp and gochujang pickles, gungchae namul (a leafy green side), baek kimchi (white kimchi), green onion shreds, and myeongran (pollock roe) sauce. Everything was good, but I thought that myeongran sauce was Donbegi's signature kick... The combo of pollock roe, garlic, and sesame oil — that's the work of an owner who truly knows flavor! ✶ ˚ * ・

You order through the table-order tablet, and we went with the family mixed platter with French rack. When there's a group, it's easiest to just order the mixed platter first instead of agonizing over individual cuts haha.

The sauces were shiitake-wasabi soy sauce, wasabi, and salt — sauces that paired perfectly with the meat. It was fun dipping each bite of meat into whichever sauce suited it ✶

Beside us they'd set out wet wipes, utensils, tissues, and even a bottle opener — no need to call the staff when you're in the middle of things (am I the only one who feels bad calling staff over repeatedly when they're busy...?)

The family mixed platter with French rack

And then the meat we'd been waiting for arrived! This is the family mixed platter we ordered. You can feel the thickness of the meat just from the photo, right...? Having several different cuts together was so much better than eating just one type over and over. This kind of visual alone deserves a pass, right? ㅠㅠ ✦₊˚ෆ

I especially don't often see the bone-in cuts, so it was fascinating, and I had no idea how to grill it — luckily Donbegi is a place where the staff grill the meat for you! With thick cuts like this, it would be such a waste to mess it up grilling it yourself, right?

They say meat tastes best right when you flip it once... and the staff really know their stuff. Our pup Bbuppu was locked in too!!

They say Donbegi's meat tastes best when it's about 80% cooked haha. If you grill it too long it gets dry and loses its juiciness, but Donbegi's meat... was different ㅠㅠ Genuinely tender and the flavor just melts away!!!!!!!!!!!!

Eating it like this with green onion shreds makes it even more amazing?!

And like this, they built us a whole mountain of meat haha. Since the staff were grilling it, our family conversation never got interrupted... nothing chaotic about it, and yeah — meat someone else grills for you is always the best ˗ˋˏ ♡ ˎˊ˗ It paired so well with the grilled vegetables too haha.

The thinner cuts were nice and clean-tasting too!!!!!!!!

Our pup enjoyed it too! Guess it was worth bringing him along ^^

Extra ogeopsal (pork belly), comparing snowflake-cut and whole cut

After eating, ogeopsal (pork belly) suited our taste best so we added an order haha. Earlier we'd had the snowflake-cut ogeopsal, so this time we tried the whole cut to feel the difference... but honestly, both were just so good... Oh, and you can grab the lettuce wraps yourself from the self bar haha.

Finishing with doenjang jjigae

By the time the meat was winding down, we moved on to the sides too. Once you've had a good amount of meat, you start craving a meal dish too, right? Donbegi has quite a range of meal options besides doenjang jjigae and kimchi jjigae — myeongran (pollock roe) rice, galchi sokjeot rice, bibim kalguksu, cold kimchi kalguksu, cold soba, and more! Our pick was the doenjang jjigae haha. It had meat in it too and was a mild, satisfying way to finish the meal!

Next time I'd love to try the wine they recommend too haha. Anyway, we ate so well today!

Final thoughts

🥩 We visited as a family of four, and getting to try a variety of cuts through the family mixed platter was great :) The meat overall was thick and juicy, and having the staff grill it for us meant we could just chat with family and eat comfortably, which I really liked haha. Best of all, dogs are allowed so we could bring ours along, and the underground garage gave us 2 hours free parking, making it easy to visit by car 🐶🚗 With rooms and group seating available too, it seems like a solid choice for a family meal or gathering! If you're looking for a dog-friendly barbecue restaurant or a spot for a family meal out in Gwangalli, Donbegi Gwang-an Branch is worth a visit ෆ
