Hwayo happy hour and mixed pork belly platter, Busan: Wanbeoljip

In short

Wanbeoljip Kyungsung University Branch is a pork belly restaurant in Daeyeon-dong, Nam-gu, Busan, near Kyungsung University and Pukyong National University stations. On a return visit during the Chuseok holiday, the writer had the Wanbeol mixed platter for two (39,500 won) with plain pork belly and charcoal gochujang pork belly, plus the Monday-Thursday 17:00-18:00 happy hour perk of a free 375ml bottle of Hwayo 25° and a welcome cup of yuja makgeolli. Everything arrives grilled from the kitchen and the tables use induction burners, so no smoke smell clings to your clothes.

I went to Wanbeoljip Kyungsung University Branch (완벌집 경성대본점), a pork belly restaurant well known near Kyungsung University in Busan. Hours are 17:00-23:00, closed every Sunday.

Hi everyone! 🎉 On the first day of Chuseok this year, I found myself craving good meat and a clean atmosphere, so I went back to Wanbeoljip, a meat spot I love in Daeyeon-dong! Even though it was the first day of the holiday, the place was packed with customers!

The meat is fully grilled in the kitchen before it comes out, so there's no worry about oil splattering on your clothes or smelling like smoke afterward — you can just focus on the flavor and the conversation. This is honestly one of the best pork belly spots near Kyungsung University! Here's my honest, detailed review 😋👍

👉 We showed up right in the event window and asked, and they kindly brought it out along with a proper shot glass! It's the kind of deal that makes you shout "yes!" out loud — if you're visiting early on a weekday, definitely ask about it 😆

Induction grills and a cozy room: what kind of gathering suits Wanbeoljip?

The atmosphere at Wanbeoljip Kyungsung University Branch is cozy and clean, so I'd strongly recommend it for dates, blind dates, wedding invitation gatherings, or any kind of get-together! What really stood out was that the table burners are induction, not open gas flame, so the meat stays warm the whole meal without making you feel hot or stuffy from the fire. 👏

Wanbeol mixed platter for two, 39,500 won, and its generous side dishes

🍽️ We ordered the generously portioned Wanbeol mixed platter for two (39,500 won)! Among the options, we chose a combination of plain pork belly and charcoal gochujang pork belly.

🥗 While the meat is being prepared, a huge spread of side dishes gets set out, and it's a genuinely impressive lineup!

  • Basic banchan and sauces: refreshing basic salad, olives, savory shiitake wasabi, mayo sauce, wasabi, pickled radish wraps, ssamjang (dipping paste), myeongi namul (wild garlic leaves)
  • Distinctive combos: tortillas for wrapping meat with spicy peppers, plus curry powder and salt for dipping

🥩 The visuals are explosive! The platter comes out from the kitchen beautifully browned and finished — a total work of art! Alongside the meat there's a generous helping of mushrooms, bracken fern, chives, and baek-kimchi (white kimchi), and grilling them together in the meat's fat gives an incredible depth of flavor 😭❤️

How do the plain and charcoal gochujang pork belly taste?

Plain pork belly: no matter what, I believe the raw meat itself has to be good first! Whatever they did with Wanbeoljip's plain pork belly, the juices stay locked in and moist — dipped in curry powder or salt, it's pure nutty goodness.

Charcoal gochujang pork belly: sweet and spicy with a hint of smoky char, this one's a perfect match wrapped in a tortilla with mayo sauce and shiitake wasabi!

Spicy red-sauced pork skin at Wanbeoljip

Pork skin: instead of the usual soy-sauce base, Wanbeoljip's pork skin comes in a red-seasoned sauce that really wakes up your palate!

The moment you bite into the golden-grilled pork skin, it's crispy outside, chewy inside, and the spicy-sweet flavor bursts in your mouth. The more you chew, the more the skin's nuttiness blends with that special sauce — there's nothing better as a drinking snack! It also pairs great with the curry powder, soybean powder, and mayonnaise on the table.

Finishing with self-serve fried rice, 3,000 won

🍚 As we neared the end of the meat, we added self-fried rice (3,000 won)! Once you order it, they generously bring out seasoning sauce, dried seaweed flakes, and sesame oil, and it's fun frying it yourself right on the grill plate 🍳 Following the staff's tip, we chopped up the leftover baek-kimchi and tossed it in — so good, haha.

Drizzle sesame oil on at the very end, and add as much extra seasoning sauce as you want, haha. Since it's induction, you can easily control how crispy the rice gets on the bottom, so we scraped up every last spoonful!

Final verdict on Wanbeoljip in Daeyeon-dong

💬 Even on a return visit, the flavor stayed just as good, the service was kind, and the pre-grilled comfort was still perfect — Wanbeoljip Kyungsung University Branch nailed it! If you're near Kyungsung University or Pukyong National University looking for a good-vibes pork belly spot, a seasoned pork belly place, or an affordable Hwayo happy hour to enjoy after work, I recommend this 200%! 🔥
