Busan grill house with country doenjang stew: Donnamu Jip pork belly
In short
Donnamu Jip is a Jirisan pork belly restaurant in Daeyeon-dong, Nam-gu, Busan, in the Kyungsung University and Pukyong National University district. One plate of Jirisan pork belly shared by two people, with special rice (gondre and shiitake) and country-style doenjang stew, was filling enough that no second order was needed, and the bangah-ssam herb leaves came with free refills. Between the tin-table old-school mood and the owner's service, Donnamu Jip is worth a return visit.

Where is Donnamu Jip, the Daeyeon-dong pork belly spot near Kyungsung University?
Donnamu Jip is a Jiri Mountain pork belly restaurant on Yongso-ro 7beon-gil in Daeyeon-dong, Nam-gu, Busan. I was craving pork belly so badly today that I dragged a friend out for it in the evening haha 😋 We'd been hanging around Kyungsung University and Pukyong National University, and I'd heard there was a famous pork belly place nearby — turned out it was right around the corner.
Since school just started, the streets near Kyungsung University were packed with people 😮😮 Looked like some kind of welcome party going on, the bars were swarming with people 👥 There are so many good restaurants around Kyungsung University that I feel like I discover a new one every time I go. And this time, the place we picked was the Daeyeon-dong pork belly spot 'Donnamu Jip.'

The exterior alone gives off the vibe. The tin tables give it that cozy, old-school (nopo) restaurant feel.

You can see the condition and origin of the meat right at the entrance, which made me trust the place right away 👍

Inside Donnamu Jip: tin tables and about six seats
The inside of Donnamu Jip was clean and comfortable, with about 6 tables. Not huge, but it looked fine for groups too.
We showed up around 7pm, and since everyone seemed to be gathered on the street next door, the inside was quieter than I expected. One table was already eating, and while we were eating more people started trickling in. I like a place where you can sit and eat comfortably, and this had exactly that feel. We grabbed a seat first and looked at the menu.

Is one plate of Jirisan pork belly enough for two?
Since there were two of us, we started with one plate of Jiri Mountain pork belly and figured we'd order more as we ate.

Lettuce, onion, perilla (bang-a), potato, mushroom, garlic scapes, kimchi, scallion salad. So many side dishes, which is great for variety. The ssamjang (dipping sauce) looked homemade, super rich. They said they even grind the salt themselves. I especially love perilla leaves, so having perilla wraps made me really happy!

Highly recommend the perilla wraps! If you run out, you can just keep asking for refills. The owner is the best 🥹

As soon as we ordered, the owner sliced the meat and brought it out right away. First impression: the color of the meat already passed the test~~~✨

Even indoors it felt like an outdoor pojangmacha (street tent)!! Sitting at the tin tables really gave off that old-school restaurant feeling.

They put the meat straight on the grill, and grilled the kimchi, mushrooms and potato right alongside it.

Meat always looks best while it's grilling. The moment it hit the grill it started sizzling, and the smell alone doubled my hunger 🥺

Salt-grilled first bite and the bangah-ssam herb leaf wrap
My friend grilled the meat perfectly haha. Our first bite was with just salt.
Insane So good Honestly it's gotta be top 3 of the pork belly places I've had recently It's literally just regular pork belly, why is it this good What... what is this?

Then you put the meat on a perilla leaf, add grilled kimchi, wrap it with ssamjang and scallion salad in one bite and...
I fainted

Rice and kimchi are domestic, the pork is from Jiri Mountain haha. They're also doing Naver receipt reviews right now!!! If both people write one, you get a free bibim guksu (spicy mixed noodles) 🤩
Special rice with gondre and shiitake, plus country doenjang stew
Partway through the meat we also ordered Donnamu Jip's country-style doenjang stew and special rice (gondre + shiitake). The special rice takes about 15–20 minutes, so I'd recommend ordering it early. For the stew, definitely ask for extra perilla and make it spicy 😋

Have you ever seen a pork belly place give you gondre-shiitake rice? They add perilla oil too, and the nutty smell is insane ㅠㅠ Wrap the rice with seaweed and soy sauce, seriously try it... The stew was also spicy with that perilla aroma and so delicious.
We were genuinely starving that day, and eating the meat together with the rice meant a huge portion — by the time we finished we were completely full. I originally wanted to order more meat, but I was too full to add anything ㅜ One plate plus rice is honestly the perfect amount for two people!

When we were paying, the owner even gave us Yakult drinks. That kind of thoughtfulness is exactly what makes me want to come back ❤️🔥 We ate so well and left happy. Definitely coming back here again next time!-! It'd been a while since I had such good meat and left with a completely full stomach 👍

If you're looking for a good restaurant around Kyungsung University and Pukyong National University, definitely visit 'Donnamu Jip' 🫶 The owner is kind, the place is cozy and clean, and the meat was so, so good. I'll definitely be going back again 😋✨
