Even though it's a makchang restaurant, Bongja Makchang serves quite a lot of banchan (side dishes). (Usually you just get makjang dipping sauce, garlic, and chili.) Here you get kimchi, bean sprouts, and jaeraegi (young radish kimchi) too — a generous spread!

First, since I was thirsty, cheers~~~🥹

For our Bongja Platter we ordered raw makchang and raw pork belly, and it was so easy to eat because the staff placed everything straight on the stone griddle and grilled it all for us. The gosari (bracken fern) that came with the platter was also included, and the combination of pork belly and gosari was really delicious!

Raw makchang dipped in makjang sauce at Bongja Makchang

Do I even need to say it — the makchang was so savory and delicious. It's good on its own, but dipping it in the makjang sauce loaded with chili is the real move!

For the pork belly, I dipped it in galchi sokjeot (fermented hairtail intestine sauce) and also ate it together with the gosari — it was nice to mix and match. It was so good we polished it all off in no time haha 🐷🔥

Free unlimited ramen and patbingsu at Bongja Makchang

There's an unlimited ramen corner tucked in a corner of the restaurant,,,!!! You can eat 7 kinds of ramen for free, and honestly the makchang-and-ramen combo is irresistible ㅠ

After finishing all the meat, we had one ganjjamppong (dry jjamppong noodles) for dessert. Why is it so good when I haven't had it in a while.
