Glam perm curls at a Daegu hair salon near Manchon Station: Momentium

In short

Momentium is a one-person hair salon on Cheongho-ro 96-gil in Suseong-gu, Daegu, near Manchon Station. Before a Southeast Asia trip, the writer went in for her first perm in two years and finished a cut, shampoo and glam perm in under two hours, with curls springy right to the ends that loosened naturally by the next day. The calm, friendly owner-stylist makes Momentium an easy visit even for introverts.

Did my hair today! I'm heading to Southeast Asia soon, so I went to get a perm for the first time in two years for a bit of a change. The location was convenient, near Manchon Station. Oh, and on the way there I was shocked at how good a bakery near the Lotteria on the main road was.

Okay, let's start the review. First, the before and after.

How long a glam perm takes at Momentium: under two hours

I turned into instant ramen noodles haha. At Momentium I got a simple cut, washed my hair, then had the perm done. It took maybe two hours? Actually I think it was under that.

This is the vibe I wanted — a glam perm feel! I did a hippie perm two years ago, which was cute, but this time I wanted something more mature.

Goodbye, my straight hair. See you in two years.

Before photos. My hair was pretty damaged, so I wasn't sure the perm would turn out well...? Looking at it from behind, the color was really yellow too, so I'll need to dye it soon.

Breakfast during the perm: trolley, phone stand and iced americano

Momentium has a trolley next to each seat, so I put my stuff there. I hadn't eaten breakfast, so this became my breakfast! And the stylist even made me an iced americano, which was refreshing. I'd brought my notebook to get some work done, but ended up chatting with the owner instead so I didn't touch it, hahaha. I had a healthy breakfast of banana, protein powder, and nuts. I'd overslept that day and had a lot to do, so eating breakfast while getting my hair done was honestly satisfying.

Why Momentium's owner-stylist is easy for introverts

Here's the perm rods going in. The owner is so nice. I'm a total introvert, so a lot of chatting exhausts me — usually going to a hair salon drains my energy — but Momentium's owner was so friendly and yet calm at the same time, so I got my hair done super comfortably. Yay.

I'd worked out the day before and my whole body was sore, so the massage while getting my hair washed felt amazing. The waiting time during a treatment is usually so boring, but here I actually wanted to just keep lying there. And the chair doesn't just recline a little — it lays flat like a bed, a full 180 degrees, so I nearly fell asleep. Ah, I want to go back.

There's an ice water dispenser too, so you can enjoy a cool drink while getting your hair done.

A plush-looking chair. I had a reservation so I never sat in it, but it looked tempting. It seems to be where they do hair consultations.

Here's the interior. There were about 5 chairs, I think. While I was there another customer came in, so the owner switched back and forth handling both of us. There was just one stylist when I visited, which reminded me of that Bogum magic-curl thing I saw recently.

Small, cozy, and tidy inside. There's even a cute checkered rug.

There's a phone stand too, which I loved. I didn't get to use it since I was busy chatting with the owner, but she said it's handy for kids — honestly it's useful for adults too. As a YouTube addict, I appreciated it.

She also clipped some mysterious green panel thing into my hair. Looked kind of like clay. I'm guessing it's a tool to keep the roots from getting flattened.

Having the trolley next to my seat was so convenient. I got some work done, ate my banana and protein shake, plus the iced americano the owner made me. She mentioned she swims, so we ended up chatting about swimming and the time flew by while I got my hair done.

Glam perm curl results, right after and the next day

Boing boing, the curls came out so tangly. Like a mini chocolate conch bread, so cute. Drumroll... and after I washed my hair and came out, this is what it looked like.

She curled it tangly all the way to the ends... so good... love it.

Right after the treatment. Seen from behind, the curls were bigger than I expected, which I liked. Since I have a lot of hair, I hate it when a perm looks like one big clump, but she made the ends soft and light, which I loved.

Right after — nice and frizzy-curly.

Curls relaxed into a natural look the next day

The curls the next day. They relaxed into something a bit more natural. I'll have to skip swimming for a while to keep the curls, haha. I bought the curl cream the owner recommended, an Amos one, and the scent is great! I used to use Lush curl cream, but this one's lighter and smells better, so I'm happy. Gotta take good care of it. Done!
