I used to come here for tendon when I was younger, and it's still standing strong as a Suseong Lake favorite. I think they've also got a branch inside Shinsegae Department Store.

Ongijeong's menu and the look of the dining room

Ongijeong Suseong Lake Branch has way more than just tendon — tons of Japanese dishes. I walked in already excited because I knew the tendon here is good! Steak don + tendon combos, obanzai, spicy tempura kimchi nabe set, soba, and so much more delicious Japanese food!

The inside was clean and spacious! I went a bit after the lunch rush and I was the only one there?! A solo-dining spot for a woman who wakes up late haha.

Lots of set-tray menus, and the tempura looked amazing!

A sunny window seat. It had this old-school Western diner vibe, kind of like a Japanese family restaurant.

There was a lot of space further inside too! On weekends this place even gets a waitlist, that's how popular it is.

They have baby chairs too! Come out for a walk near Suseong Lake with your baby, park easily, and eat something delicious — isn't that killing two birds with one stone? A great Japanese restaurant near Suseong Lake for a meal with a baby in tow.

What comes with the 19,500 won Steak Tendon Set

What I ordered was Ongijeong Suseong Lake Branch's Steak Tendon Set for ₩19,500. I wanted to try the signature obanzai, but it had already sold out by lunchtime haha. I wanted steak and I wanted tendon, so I picked this.

Full spread of the Ongijeong Steak Tendon Set

Wanted steak don! Wanted tendon! Wanted udon too! The excellent choice of a piglet! Did I do well?! The steak, the tempura, and the rice were all plentiful — nothing was skimped on — and the portions and taste were both great! Even the plating was pretty, so my late lunch felt like being treated to something special~!

A chubby woman setting aside all the tempura first to properly get to the rice. Look how plump and crispy those tempura pieces are... I started with rice, then moved on to tempura, and it was crispy — crunch-crunch — down to the very last bite. A truly authentic tendon spot.

The udon noodles were incredibly springy and chewy, and the broth was clean and delicious! I slurped up every last drop of the soup!

How does the steak rice bowl taste?

Time to try the steak don! The look of it alone got me so excited, tears welling up.

So good... haha. Beef is beef, no matter what. The moment I took a bite, my brain just went, mm, delicious, that beefy aroma. How do I even put this taste into words on a blog? I savored it while pondering that! The meat wasn't tough at all, and it was even better with a bit of wasabi on top!

Tempura, then meat, then tempura, then meat! Eating both, enjoying both, tasting both! The crunchy lotus root tempura.

The shrimp tempura was truly a work of art

It's so good piled on top of rice. I almost added an extra shrimp, my personal favorite... crunchy... plump and chubby, total art.

Eating the meat together with wasabi is totally my style~

The sweet pumpkin tempura was seriously delicious... The reason I felt like these were genuinely clean tempura: while I was eating my way through all of it, I never once craved soda. You know how by the time you're almost done with tendon it usually starts feeling a bit greasy? I didn't even order a drink, dieter that I am... anyway.

And that mushroom tempura was genuinely crunchy like a cracker, wow... so good, I thought. You all know a good sound makes food taste even better, right? The set also comes with 3 pieces of karaage! Tastewise, need I even say — delicious.

The meat was so plump and thick, crispy outside and soft inside, moving.

Is Ongijeong Suseong Lake Branch worth a visit?

I ate Ongijeong Suseong Lake Branch's Steak Tendon Set alone and left generously full. The tempura wasn't greasy at all, so I didn't need a soda with it. They must really use clean oil! Crispy down to the very last bite — a truly authentic tendon place. How about coming here for a date, a walk, or a get-together near Suseong Lake, parking easily in the big lot, and enjoying some great Japanese food?
