I'd been putting off a salon visit while growing my hair out. But my old dye job had faded to brown and looked unusually bright in sunlight — it kept bugging me every time I took a photo. Why designer Kim Seo-yeong was the pick
I had a specific reason for choosing designer Kim Seoyoung: reviews kept mentioning how great she is at bobs.
I wasn't planning to cut at all since I'm growing my hair out, but those reviews stuck with me anyway. Going downstairs, the space was bigger than I expected.
Every seat had a glass partition, so I barely noticed anyone next to me. Near the entrance, a shelf lined with Ojua products in every color caught my eye — I ended up browsing there for a while, they were so colorful haha.

How the toned-down mint color was done, step by step
The tone-down mint dye at One & Only Hair Gwacheon Government Complex Station started with a color chart consultation. The consultation itself was thorough.
She laid out the color chart, checked the condition of my hair, and settled on somewhere between emerald line 5 and 7.
She explained that going too dark would look dull, while going too light would fade fast. Asking what color I wanted first and then explaining the reasoning made it easy to trust her judgment.
She sprayed on a scalp protectant first and showed me the whole process of mixing the dye.
The dye in the bowl was a pale mint color, and I wondered how that would even turn out on my hair... but she carefully left a small margin near the scalp for protection and applied it step by step.
What stuck with me was how she kept checking the color as it developed. She also brought out toast and iced americano while I waited, so the time didn't feel long at all.
The layered cut that wasn't in the plan
The cut wasn't part of the plan at all. She kept nearly all the length and just added layers, which I loved — my hair now falls naturally into strands when I brush it back.
I kept the length I'd been growing out, and just the heavy, stuffy feeling disappeared. I never thought I'd be the person who came in with zero plans to cut and left saying the cut was great. Lining up the before and after, the difference was obvious.
How the mint color turned out, and the finishing products
The reddish, overly bright brown was gone, replaced by a tone that stays calm indoors and shows a hint of mint in bright light. It helped that she mentioned in advance the color would lighten a bit more after about a week — knowing the fade pattern ahead of time made me less anxious about it. For the finish, she applied the Ojua lotion and serum the salon uses.
The texture left on my fingertips was so nice that I'm thinking of buying the products separately later.
The downside: it takes half a day
The drawback was the time. Doing a full dye job plus a cut at One & Only Hair Gwacheon Government Complex Station easily eats up half a day. But watching her repeatedly check how the color was developing and carefully trim the layers, I realized it couldn't have gone any faster. Given how thorough she was, the time didn't feel wasted.
