I found a Deulanguil restaurant that I genuinely fell for after a long time, so I wanted to share it. From the atmosphere to the food to the dessert, nothing was missing at Geumdeungeo Main Branch — it's exactly the kind of Korean restaurant you'd want to bring your parents to!
The signature wood-fired mackerel goes without saying, but even the side dishes and the cockle salad I ordered extra were savory enough to make my mouth water. If you've been looking for a good-looking, good-tasting Korean restaurant, keep reading about Geumdeungeo Main Branch.
Where is Geumdeungeo Deulanguil Main Branch, and where do you park?
Geumdeungeo Deulanguil Main Branch sits on the 2nd floor at 57 Deulan-ro, Suseong-gu, Daegu, South Korea, in the Deulanguil food town. There's a spacious dedicated parking lot plus a parking tower on the 1st floor, so you never have to worry about parking.

It's in the Deulanguil food town that's easy for anyone from Daegu to find. Most people drive out to Deulanguil, and parking is always the biggest headache when you're visiting a restaurant there. Luckily there was staff directing traffic, so even during busy hours parking was smooth and stress-free.
Inside Geumdeungeo Deulanguil Main Branch: seating and atmosphere
Inside, Geumdeungeo Main Branch has that neat, cozy feel typical of a Korean restaurant, with wood tones and warm lighting. Like any Deulanguil hotspot, there's a wait during weekend meal hours, so I'd recommend visiting slightly off peak!

The clean yet upscale atmosphere was really appealing.

The ceilings are high and the tables are spaced generously, so even with a full house it never feels cramped. The interior is upscale and comfortable enough for a family gathering or bringing your parents along.
Geumdeungeo menu and prices

- Wood-fired mackerel ₩19,000
- Extra mackerel ₩10,000
- Spicy stir-fried pork (jeyuk bokkeum) ₩20,000

They also sell the banchan (side dishes) separately. A lot of people buy them to take home. It was tasty enough that I understood why.
Is the self-serve banchan bar at Geumdeungeo unlimited?
Geumdeungeo Main Branch runs a self-serve salad bar where every basic banchan except the crispy gochujang laver is unlimited refill. The neatly arranged bar off to one side caught my eye.
With this many customers, I loved that the self-serve bar stayed spotless.

With so many people using it, you'd expect spills and stains, but the utensils and the area around the food were spotless — not a speck of dust.

And the thing I totally fell for — the old-school Korean puffed-barley snack for dessert. It's a common enough snack, but this was the best puffed-barley snack I've ever had.
The table: wood-fired mackerel for two plus cockle salad
This time at Geumdeungeo Deulanguil Main Branch I ordered the signature wood-fired mackerel for two and the cockle salad as an extra menu item. The table was packed with side dishes..!

Wood-fired grilled mackerel, 19,000 won for two
The mackerel at Geumdeungeo Main Branch is apparently cured in a special nuruk (fermentation starter) salt before being grilled golden in a high-heat wood oven — crisp like a cracker on the outside, packed with juice on the inside. It was the juiciest grilled mackerel I've ever had in my life.
Wrapping the moist mackerel flesh with rice in the savory gochujang laver that comes with the meal is a phenomenal combination. Definitely try it with the laver!

There's zero fishy taste — just savory, clean flavor filling your mouth. It's also great that the nuruk salt comes on the side so you can season to your own taste.

Cockle salad, the 9,000 won add-on
The cockle salad I ordered alongside the main mackerel dish also didn't disappoint. Since it was an extra menu item (₩9,000) rather than a main, I expected a small portion, but it turned out to be quite generous.

The sweet-and-spicy sauce is ridiculously good. I'd definitely order the cockle salad again if I come back.

Best banchan at Geumdeungeo: the burdock salad
Geumdeungeo Main Branch doesn't just nail the main dish — the accompanying banchan are also impressively high quality. Every side dish was clean-tasting and not over-seasoned, so nothing competed with the flavor of the main dish.

My favorite was the burdock salad. It felt like a salad made with burdock root tossed in a generous savory sesame dressing! It was so good I refilled it twice at the self-serve bar haha.
Dessert zone with three espresso machines and an ice-cup fridge
You don't need to go to a café after eating at Geumdeungeo. They actually have three espresso machines, plus instant coffee and juice...!

They even have a dedicated ice-cup fridge, so I made myself a cold iced americano for dessert. I usually don't expect much from restaurant after-meal coffee, but the beans had great flavor and the thoughtfulness of having ice cups ready made even the final dessert perfect.
Honest verdict on Geumdeungeo Deulanguil Main Branch in Daegu

From the incredibly juicy grilled mackerel to the sweet-and-spicy cockles, the neat banchan, and even the dessert coffee, there wasn't a single thing I disliked about this Deulanguil restaurant. The only downside is the wait to get into the parking tower during peak hours, but other than that it's a perfect score.
If you're craving Korean food or grilled fish, I recommend Geumdeungeo Main Branch in Deulanguil!
