Diet-conscious half eel rice bowl, 26,000 won, at Manmok, Seonleung

In short

Manmok is an eel rice bowl restaurant a 4–5 minute walk from Seonleung Station Exit 2, toward Daechi-dong in Gangnam, Seoul. A couple ordered the half eel bowl at 26,000 won and the full eel bowl at 39,000 won, and found the seasoning light rather than heavy, with pickled sancho pepper cutting the richness. For anyone watching their diet, the half bowl at Manmok was still enough for a full meal.

Wood-toned exterior of Manmok, the eel rice bowl restaurant near Seonleung Station

You can find it by walking just a bit from Seonleung Station toward Daechi-dong. The overall calm, wood-toned exterior felt a bit different from the usual office-worker restaurants around it.

Stepping inside, the same clean wood-toned interior catches your eye. The lighting is soft and the whole vibe is calm, so it felt more like a relaxed meal than a noisy, chaotic office lunch spot.

There are also table seats, which are good for two people, and it looked comfortable for families or groups eating together too. So if you're looking for restaurants near Seonleung Station for a lunch team dinner or a small gathering, this could be a good fit.

Manmok menu and prices: half eel bowl or full eel bowl?

Manmok's signature dish is the eel rice bowl, and you can choose the portion by amount of eel: half, full, or one-and-a-half. True to a dedicated eel bowl restaurant, there are just 3 menu items!

  • Half eel rice bowl: ₩26,000
  • Full eel rice bowl: ₩39,000
  • One-and-a-half eel rice bowl: ₩50,000

We went as a couple, so I ordered the half and my boyfriend ordered the full. Based on a typical adult appetite, the full portion seems right, but if you're watching what you eat like me, the half portion should be plenty too.

What comes with the eel rice bowl at Manmok

When the eel rice bowl arrived, it came out as a neatly arranged full spread. The side dishes served alongside were also cleanly put together, so it was fun trying each one.

The eel itself was soft and moist, and when eaten with the rice, the sauce wasn't overly sweet or salty, so it wasn't heavy. Eel rice bowls can easily get greasy, but eating pickled sancho pepper in between bites really helped reset the palate🫢

How the Manmok eel rice bowl tastes, and was the half portion enough?

What I personally liked most was that the seasoning wasn't strong. You could taste the eel's own savory, clean flavor with just the right amount of sauce added, so I never got tired of it even eating continuously.

I've been watching what I eat these days, so I ordered the half portion, and it turned out to be exactly the right amount for me. The half portion didn't feel lacking at all, and with the rice included, it was plenty for a full meal.
