Looking for good songpyeon in Cheongju and finding Tteokmidang

Tteokmidang is a rice cake shop in Bihadong, Heungdeok-gu, Cheongju, where you can pick up Chuseok songpyeon (half-moon rice cakes) and gift sets together. With Chuseok coming up soon, I bet you're already browsing gift sets too? I've been looking around lately for light gifts for people around me and gifts for the elders in my family — it's not easy picking something when you have to think about how the other person will feel receiving it, haha.

And at Chuseok it's absolutely got to be songpyeon, but finding a place that makes it well isn't easy! There was a shop near my old place I'd bought from before where the rice cakes hardened stiff and had barely any filling inside... Tteokmidang is right across from the Lotte Outlet in Bihadong, so it's really easy to get to. The parking lot is behind the building, so parking was convenient too. They sell a wide variety of Chuseok songpyeon and gift sets, so I'd definitely recommend this rice cake shop to anyone preparing gift sets or songpyeon.

How to pre-order songpyeon and sweet pumpkin seolgi for pickup

What I got ready at Tteokmidang was songpyeon and sweet pumpkin seolgi. I ordered ahead and went to pick it up! There were also plenty of samples in the shop, which made choosing easy.

Tteokmidang also sells rice cake cakes perfect for mom, dad, or in-laws' birthdays — colorful and so appetizing to look at, really pretty. You know how much the elders love it when you bring a rice cake cake for their birthday? Haha.

A lot of people do 100-day, first-birthday, and thank-you rice cakes these days, but at plenty of places the stickers cost extra — here they give the stickers free, which is such a plus for anyone who needs them.

Especially for the thank-you rice cakes, they attach a sticker with whatever message you want, free of charge, so you don't need to prepare anything separately, and it lets you put it together with real care — I really liked that.

Tteokmidang's display case had all sorts of rice cakes — watermelon seolgi, honey rice cakes, pumpkin seolgi, plain white seolgi — so pretty I had to take photos. They'd just come out, so they were still warm.

How does Tteokmidang's songpyeon taste? Chewy and full of sesame

What I packed up was Tteokmidang's sweet pumpkin seolgi and songpyeon! Plus some extra rice cakes the owner sent along for my kid. The owner was so generous that I felt good the whole time I was in the shop.

The songpyeon was almost all made by the time I got there, and just looking at it made my mouth water — packed with sesame filling inside, nutty, chewy, and so delicious. My kid and my parents were all so satisfied with Tteokmidang 😆😆
