Perilla kalguksu vs clear gomtang set in Eco City, Jeonju: Eonyang Dak
In short
Eonyang Dak Kalguksu Songcheon-dong Eco City Branch is a chicken kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) and chicken gomtang (clear chicken soup) restaurant in Songcheon-dong Eco City, Jeonju, near Jeonju Zoo. The writer ordered both the 13,500 won kalguksu set and the gomtang set to compare the perilla-based noodle soup with the clear broth and the ipsae mandu (leaf-shaped dumplings), refilling the spicy fresh kimchi made every morning several times. The chicken was tender enough to fall apart when lifted, and the writer's final pick was the gomtang.

Today I'm introducing a chicken kalguksu spot in Songcheon-dong Eco City in Jeonju — Eonyang Dak Kalguksu Songcheon-dong Eco City Branch!

Eonyang Dak Kalguksu Eco City: hours and parking
Eonyang Dak Kalguksu Songcheon-dong Eco City Branch is open Tuesday to Sunday, 11:00–21:00. It's closed on the 2nd and 4th Mondays, and on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Mondays it's only open until 15:00. The address is 230 Songcheon-jungang-ro, Deokjin-gu, Jeonju-si, Jeonbuk, South Korea.
Here's the exterior!! The private parking lot is right in front of the store, and there are other spots nearby too!!
Inside the store! It's super clean and spacious!! I loved that it was so big and tidy, haha!
Ta-da!! There's group seating too, so group reservations are possible and it seems great for simple gatherings!

Menu and prices: chicken kalguksu set, 13,500 won
The signature menu at Eonyang Dak Kalguksu Songcheon-dong Eco City Branch is the chicken kalguksu + 4pc dumpling set for ₩13,500. There's also a chicken gomtang set, and separate a la carte options without dumplings.

They even sell boneless spicy chicken feet?!

Chicken kalguksu + 4pc dumpling set menu!! ₩13,500. There's a chicken gomtang set too.

There's a spicy version too!! The kalguksu has noodles, and the gomtang comes with rice.

I wanted to try the chogye milmyeon (cold chicken noodles) too, but it seems they don't do it in September. :(
There's an a la carte menu without dumplings too!

Extra chicken is ₩4,000. There are self-serve takeout containers too! (The chicken is really so tender that adding extra chicken seems totally worth it!!)
What you can order for takeout

The takeout menu is all the same, but the prices seem a bit cheaper!!

Spicy fresh kimchi self-bar, made every morning
These are the basic side dishes!! This kimchi is spicy kimchi, and honestly it was so, so good!!!
The self-serve corner has kimchi, pickled radish, scissors, ladle, small plates and more. They make fresh kimchi every single morning!! It's spicy!!!! I loved that it was spicy so, so, so much..👍 There are two self-bar stations in total!!

The kimchi was so good I refilled it little by little, over and over!! It's deliciously spicy — perfect with the kalguksu or gomtang…

Chicken kalguksu set: a surprising perilla-seed broth
I ordered both the chicken kalguksu set and the chicken gomtang set! Here's the kalguksu!!

Turns out it's a perilla (deulkkae)-based chicken kalguksu!! I usually love clam kalguksu so I was a little surprised, but it was delicious!!!
The review event gives you a free drink or dumplings! Salt and pepper too!
I tried to lift the chicken and it just fell apart, haha. That's how tender it was! I don't like free-range chicken usually, but I was super satisfied here.

The chicken thigh was so juicy and delicious, haha.

Even the drier breast meat, which I don't usually eat much of, was tasty enough that I could eat it here!!
The noodles were delicious too!! I'm not a huge perilla fan but I ate it happily, haha! Since I heard the kimchi was spicy, I went with the kalguksu, haha.

Spicy kimchi ❤️🔥❤️🔥 seriously so, so delicious!!

And here come the dumplings too!
Chicken gomtang set: clear broth with no perilla
Here's the chicken gomtang!! This one isn't perilla-based!!

I personally found the gomtang more delicious!!!

So this is what Eonyang-style kalguksu is like, haha. Delicious, and it came out super fast, which I loved, haha.

The set dumplings are ipsae mandu (leaf-shaped dumplings)
The dumplings are jip-sae mandu (leaf-shaped dumplings)~~! Eaten together with the noodles, chicken, and kimchi, they're genuinely delicious. The spicy kimchi pairs so well with the noodles…
The dumplings~~ are kind of like potato dumplings!! The soy sauce dip was sweet and not too salty, which I liked!!!

Kalguksu or gomtang? My pick between the two sets
My pick is the chicken gomtang, haha. It had been a while since I had gomtang, so it tasted even better, haha.

It had a clean, refreshing flavor, so I really enjoyed eating it!!

This chicken was also so tender, which I loved, haha. Dipping the chicken in salt and pepper — yum. Honestly with just this kimchi I could eat endlessly, haha. Toward the end it basically turned into chicken porridge, but haha.
The store was clean, but the bathroom was clean too, which made it even better!! Such a hygienic feeling! There were even two different scented hand washes~! Ate really well and cleanly, haha.
