Dog-friendly bar in Suwon for golbaengi and hanwoo yukhoe: Ryu-eun

In short

Ryu-eun is a dog-friendly bar tucked in an alley off Haenggung-dong's Haengridang-gil in Suwon, Gyeonggi. Dogs can join on the ground-floor terrace and indoor seating, and the writer's dog joined for golbaengi somyeon (whelk and noodles) topped with fried rice paper and hanwoo yukhoe (raw beef) with Dokdo Soju Zero (₩16,000). Between the moody building and the spotless separate restrooms, it's a solid first stop for a night out in Suwon with a dog in tow.

Exterior of Ryu-eun in an alley near Haengridang-gil

Ryu-eun is near the buzzing Haengridang-gil (행리단길) street, but it's tucked in a side alley, so I'd recommend turning on your maps app to find it!!!

The bar has such a moody, aesthetic building that you'll spot it right away once you're nearby!! Isn't the building so full of vibes?!!

The atmosphere around Ryu-eun's entrance

Where can you sit with your dog?

The 1st floor is split into a terrace and indoor seating, and dogs are welcome indoors too, not just on the terrace!!

But come on, it's autumn — outdoor drinking season, isn't it?!! If you don't enjoy the terrace now, you'll have to wait until next year!! It was so pleasantly cool we didn't even need air conditioning!

The 2nd floor vibe and restrooms

Walk up the moody staircase to the 2nd floor and a space with a dazzling chandelier greets you!! Quite a few women were taking photos there, and the tables were spaced generously, great for conversation!!! (Note: dogs aren't allowed on the 2nd floor.)

The 2nd floor has separate men's and women's restrooms, so no one has to feel awkward!! And the restrooms rival a decent hotel!! Seriously spotless and clean as can be.

What we ordered to drink and eat

I was planning to hit up Jinmi Tongdak (fried chicken place) for round two, so I skipped chicken for round one!! Ordered golbaengi muchim (spicy seasoned whelk) and hanwoo yukhoe (raw beef)!!

Ryu-eun's food menu

Also, Ryu-eun is apparently known among Haenggung-dong bars for its traditional Korean liquors!!

Since I was in vacation mode, I ordered Dokdo Soju Zero (₩16,000)!!

Just so you know, besides traditional liquors, they also serve cocktails, soju, and beer!!

The basic side dish is tofu chips (dubu gwaja)!! Nothing fancy, but I kept picking at them without noticing!! They seemed lightly seasoned so I gave Dongdong a bite too, and he loved it lol

Nice touch — I ordered a zero-sugar cola and they brought it in a stainless-steel ice cup~~

The Dokdo Soju cup is so pretty too, right?!! A pretty glass makes the drink taste even better~~ Big props to the owner's sense of style~~

Golbaengi somyeon, with fried rice paper as the kicker

This is the golbaengi somyeon (whelk and noodles)!! Interestingly, it comes topped with fried rice paper!! They give you three bundles of noodles too, so it's plenty for a first round of drinks!!

The whelk pieces weren't too big or too small — just the right size — and the seasoning wasn't too spicy, making it a perfect pairing for drinks!!

Ryu-eun's signature move is crushing the fried rice paper and piling the whelk and vegetables on top — eating it together with the crunchy rice paper is a combo as perfect as banana and Nutella!!

They also give you plenty of sauce, so mixing it with the noodles never tastes bland!! Ryu-eun really is a top pick for bar snacks in Haenggung-dong~

Piling the noodles on top of the fried rice paper too is just so charming!!

The soy-based hanwoo yukhoe I chose

Another dish we ordered was hanwoo yukhoe (raw beef)!! You can choose a soy-based or gochujang-based sauce, and I went with soy-based

A plate of soy-based hanwoo yukhoe

You've got to pop the egg yolk and mix it in like this for yukhoe

Can you see the glossy sheen?? It's seriously glistening!! Writing this post is making me drool all over again!!

The yukhoe itself isn't overly seasoned, which makes it perfect for drinking — dip it in the sauce and it's just right!! (I personally like things a bit saltier)

The real highlight is piling on gamtae (seaweed flakes), pear, and cheese together!! It's like the sea and the land both fill your mouth at once!!! Such a rich, satisfying bite~~~~

The food was seriously delicious and the mood was so full of atmosphere — highly recommend this dog-friendly Haenggung-dong bar with amazing snacks, Ryu-eun~~~
