Hanam Misa nurungjitang restaurant, 5pm broth pour: maesaengi bowl
In short
O Hyeongje Hwangje Nurungjitang Hanam Misa Main Branch is a standalone Chinese restaurant in its own building on Misa-daero in Hanam, Gyeonggi, specializing in nurungjitang (scorched rice soup) for family meals. On a visit just after 5pm, the seafood abalone nurungjitang cost 22,000 won and the maesaengi (fine green seaweed) nurungjitang 24,000 won, with hot broth poured into the heated bowl right at the table so each bowl stayed steaming to the last spoonful. The maesaengi bowl's gentle sea aroma was the highlight, and kimchi sides such as green onion and baek (white) kimchi are refillable at the self-serve bar.

What kind of restaurant is O Hyeongje Hwangje Nurungjitang in Hanam Misa?
A restaurant that specializes in just nurungjitang (scorched rice soup)?! Drawn in by the hearty, delicious-looking visuals, I visited O Hyeongje Hwangje Nurungjitang Hanam Misa Main Branch. As the weather turned chilly I started craving warm food, and it also brought back memories of the nurungjitang I loved as a kid, so I went out to eat it for the first time in a while.
The restaurant is about a 10-minute walk from the station, so I'd recommend visiting by car.

The restaurant sits along Hanam's Misa-daero, and since it's a standalone building, it's easy to spot‼️

Parking and what the restaurant is like at 5pm
There's a well set-up parking lot on site with plenty of space, so I didn't have to worry about parking at all. Even though I visited just after 5pm, there were already quite a few families out for dinner.

Seating was generously spaced with lots of window tables, making for a clean, comfortable atmosphere to eat in overall.
Robot serving and the self-serve kimchi bar

It really feels like the age of robot serving now 🤖 — even the side dishes were brought out by a robot.

O Hyeongje Hwangje Nurungjitang is so serious about kimchi that they even sell it separately. As side dishes, they had a good variety ready — green onion kimchi, baek (white) kimchi, napa kimchi. There's a self-serve bar too, so you can refill the side dishes yourself.

O Hyeongje Hwangje Nurungjitang sells kimchi separately too, which really shows their love for it. As side dishes, they had green onion kimchi, baek kimchi, napa kimchi, and more, all prepared in variety.
Hot broth poured into the bowl at your table
And the nurungjitang isn't served already poured — it's brought to you in a heated bowl and the hot broth is poured in right in front of your eyes! You even get to watch it sizzle and bubble, which made it fun to watch even before eating. Best of all, it stays hot all the way through the meal — as someone who loves warm food, I really liked this method.

How does the 22,000-won seafood abalone nurungjitang taste?
💛 Seafood abalone nurungjitang, ₩22,000 — this is the regular nurungjitang with abalone added (+₩2,000). The abalone was tender and soft, so it would be a shame to skip it. Compared to the maesaengi nurungjitang, the seasoning is on the milder side, but it was just right eaten with kimchi. The scorched rice in the hot broth softened and gave off a nutty, savory flavor, so I think it'd be easy for kids or elderly folks to enjoy too.

Maesaengi nurungjitang, 24,000 won: the top pick here
💚 Maesaengi nurungjitang, ₩24,000 — ever since I tried maesaengi oyster soup, I find myself craving maesaengi (fine seaweed) right before winter arrives. The maesaengi in this nurungjitang worked better than I expected too. Its subtle ocean fragrance and soft texture added a quiet umami to the otherwise plain, clean-tasting nurungjitang!

It finishes refreshingly in the mouth too ~!
Why O Hyeongje Hwangje Nurungjitang suits family meals and group dinners
Besides the nurungjitang, they have a range of cooked dishes too, so if you're visiting with two or more people, adding one to share would be nice. Portions overall are generous, so if you come with a group, it's great for ordering a variety of menu items.
With several types of nurungjitang — mung bean, maesaengi, jeongabok, and more — you can pick based on your taste, and adding a cooked dish would make it a great fit for a family meal, a gathering, or a work dinner. The staff were also really friendly, and I'm planning to come back with my family next time 🥰 If you're in Hanam Misa or Gangdong and want something a little different from usual, or you're looking for a Chinese restaurant with a hearty nurungjitang, give O Hyeongje Hwangje Nurungjitang Hanam Misa Main Branch a try!
