Gangseo Seoul restaurant for gyukatsu and steak dates: Ichigyu
In short
Ichigyu Balsan Station Branch is a Japanese restaurant in Gangseo, Seoul, where diners grill gyukatsu and steki set meals over a mini brazier. My partner and I visited on a weekday evening and had two ₩19,500 set meals cooked to our preferred doneness. Ichigyu is a fun choice for a Balsan Station date meal.

I heard there was a great gyukatsu spot near Balsan Station for a date, so I went with my partner! Gyukatsu is such a perfect date menu because it is fun to grill until crisp outside and juicy inside~ Let me share everything from the atmosphere to the menu, and of course how it tasted!

Ichigyu Balsan Station Branch location and parking
Ichigyu Balsan Station Branch is on the second floor of the Hillstate Eco officetel. It is close to Balsan Station, so it is easy to reach by public transportation, and convenient by car too—access was pretty good!

Inside and atmosphere

Even though we visited on a weekday evening, there was a wait. If you are planning to visit during the lunch or dinner rush, I recommend making a reservation in advance! The interior was clean overall, with the feel of a Japanese restaurant.

Ichigyu Balsan Branch’s signature dish is gyukatsu (Japanese beef cutlet)! Along with gyukatsu, the steak set meal is also said to be popular. There are plenty of other choices too, including hamburger omelet rice, steki-don (steak rice bowl), and Japanese-style curry, so you can choose what suits your taste~

Gyukatsu set meal and steki set meal

Each table has a mini brazier! It was actually quite large, so it was more than enough for two people to share.

The drinks were complimentary~

What comes with the sirloin gyukatsu set meal
The gyukatsu arrived~ Can you see that bright red color?

The gyukatsu set meal came with such a satisfying spread~ It was neatly served with Japanese miso soup, chili sauce, salt, wasabi, pickled cabbage, and cabbage salad!

The rice comes out as two portions together, so you can each serve yourself as much as you want~

Since the gyukatsu is made with sirloin, even the color of the meat looked incredibly appetizing!

Steki set meal grilled with Isigny butter
The steki set meal came out right away too~ The overall components are similar to the gyukatsu set meal; just think of it as having steak instead of gyukatsu!

The steak uses the same sirloin as the gyukatsu, so it is literally the sirloin steak version. Look at that marbling. It looks delicious, right?

The method is simple too~ They provide Isigny butter: first melt it on the mini brazier, then put the steak on and grill it!

You can grill it to your preferred doneness~ Being able to cook it right away to suit our tastes meant we could enjoy delicious, warm steak.

The Isigny butter was slightly salty and nutty! Grilling the steak in it made the meat flavor come through even more. With that buttery richness added, the savoriness doubled! The meat was tender but still had a pleasant bite. The gyukatsu was really good with wasabi too, and personally, I also recommend dipping it in salt!

The steak just melts, melts! It felt so tender as soon as it went into my mouth—seriously delicious~ It was great dipped in salt too, since you could really taste the meat itself, while the chili sauce added a lightly sweet and spicy flavor for a different appeal! One set meal was filling enough for one person!
Final thoughts on this Balsan Station date meal
If you are looking for a great gyukatsu restaurant for a date near Balsan Station, I recommend Ichigyu Balsan Station Branch~ The meat was delicious from the gyukatsu to the steak, and it was fun to grill it to our own tastes! I would like to try other dishes next time too.
