A Saturday lunch at Kkamon Jeongja after a wedding

The day I visited Kkamon Bundang Jeongja Direct Store was the Saturday of my friend's wedding. So I went to that wedding, and this is about a senior I was in a club with who was also there.

"Unnie!!!!" "Yaaa it's been way too long, let's eat."

After congratulating our friend, my unnie and I came to eat Vietnamese pho. Her bubbly charm hasn't changed one bit — so good to see her after so long. The pho and bánh mì both delivered a steady, satisfying flavor and were the perfect choice.

There are about 10 tables, but on a Saturday visit past 1pm the place was fully booked. Barely got a seat!

Pho is the best-seller. Mala pho, even! There are New / Best / Recommended menu sections clearly marked, so if you stick to the best items you really can't go wrong. Lunch at this price in Jeongja-dong — so grateful. Next time I'll definitely try the raengssaeb.

We ordered two bowls of Kkamon pho and one bánh mì. A solid choice for a late lunch.

How does Kkamon pho taste? A deep meat-bone broth

Delicious..! So good! They say it's the authentic local taste, and there's zero resistance to it. The meat broth is deep.

There was a review saying it tastes exactly like the pho eaten in Vietnam, so I tried it myself thinking it might lean more toward sharp fish sauce and spice notes, but — hm, the meat broth has been simmered deeply. It's cooked in the open kitchen the moment you order. The staff are from Southeast Asian countries (Korean communication was no problem).

It was so good I looked up the brand's history. They opened their first location in Suwon's Haenggung neighborhood in 2021, and by 2024 they're running more than 40 franchise locations nationwide. Makes sense! In 2024 they also won a special award at the Seoul International MasterChef cooking competition. Chef's-recipe pho. I ended up on their website and learned the franchise startup costs too, haha.

The pho comes ladled in broth topped with brisket, scallion, onion and a bit of chili. I wanted to pile on cilantro but we were too busy talking that day. Plenty soft and great-tasting as is.

"Unnie, hold the noodles up for a photo." Got the best shot. Slurp.. that signature smooth slide-down texture of Vietnamese pho noodles — nothing else compares.

Is the 9,000-won bánh mì a side or a main? A main at Kkamon

Ah, and you have to try Kkamon's bánh mì. This is not side-dish level, it's main-dish-level polish. The bread is crisp and warmed through, and it's packed with freshly stir-fried pork, egg and vegetables. I would have regretted it if we hadn't ordered the bánh mì. It's big too, and the pork's seasoning has been caramelized over charcoal fire — genuinely delicious.

Eaten alongside pickled onions — that's the taste. Sorry for neglecting this while I was busy eating Thai food for a while.
