Dangsan izakaya with Kirin draft and 14 raw shrimp: Snack Bar Atashi

In short

Snack Bar Atashi is an izakaya in Yeongdeungpo, Seoul, a four-minute walk from Dangsan Station Exit 12, with mostly counter seating plus outdoor tent tables. On an impromptu after-work visit, the order was raw shrimp sashimi (35,000 won for 14 shrimp) with shrimp head fry, salt gimbap, Kirin draft beer, soju and crab miso shell gratin. The shrimp came out large and springy, and eating them on top of the salt gimbap was the best combination of the night.

Today I've got a Dangsan Station bar review for you ꒰ ु•̫•̫ ु꒱

The bar I'm introducing in this post is "Snack Bar Atashi," located in Yangpyeong-dong, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul!

Snack Bar Atashi Dangsan Station Main Branch

Snack Bar Atashi is a Dangsan Station izakaya just a 4-minute walk from Exit 12?! Maybe it's because the weather's been so nice lately, but I just didn't want to go straight home after work, haha. So my partner and I decided on the spot to grab dinner, and while we were wondering what would hit the spot, I remembered the raw shrimp sashimi my partner had been raving about for weeks. I searched for good raw shrimp sashimi spots in Yeongdeungpo and this place came up? For us, who've loved the Japanese vibe ever since our Fukuoka trip, plus food that's supposedly amazing too = zero reasons not to go. Hopped on a bus and headed straight there =33

Snack Bar Atashi: a Dangsan Station izakaya with outdoor tent seating

Here's what the exterior looks like. Wait — I had no idea, but there's outdoor tent seating here too. I was drawn to sit there like a magnet, but my partner said it would be cold, so we ended up going inside instead ㅡ,,ㅡ

Next time I should make this guy bring a padded jacket or something. Anyway, if you're looking for a Dangsan Station bar with outdoor tent seating, come here right now ♡=͟͟͞͞ ( ˙꒳˙ )‪꜆

Inside Snack Bar Atashi: mostly counter seats, easy for solo drinking

Here's the interior. Except for one 4-person table, everything was counter seating, and I actually love sitting at the counter in izakayas like this, so I was in "oh, great" mode haha. Better to come in a small group than a big one. Wouldn't be bad for solo drinking either ꒰⍨꒱༘*

Snack Bar Atashi menu and what we ordered

Here's what the menu looks like. Even though it's an izakaya, alongside the usual Japanese-style bar snacks, they also had various sashimi, dakdoritang (spicy braised chicken), and more. The thing that stood out most was—

Flounder salt gimbap and raw shrimp sashimi!

Chef's got taste, no notes. Nicely prepared the stuff that's hot on Instagram. And since they said you can even combine raw shrimp sashimi with salt gimbap, how could I not order it?

The two of us started off ordering like this!

  • Raw shrimp sashimi ₩35,000
  • - Shrimp head fry ₩5,000
  • - Salt gimbap (8pc) ₩4,000
  • Kirin draft beer ₩7,000, 2 glasses

They're also running an event where you get an Atashi highball if you write a Naver receipt review, so everyone should try it out *,,*

Kirin draft beer, 7,000 won, and the free starter snack

You'd feel bad not drinking draft beer at an izakaya, so we couldn't help but order one glass each, and yep, ridiculously good ㅜ On a whole different level from what we had in Japan — smooth enough to rival the beer itself, honestly.

For the basic side snack, they brought out a mini version of squid and peanuts, and this exceeded expectations too? I usually don't eat the free snack that comes with drinks, but here I just demolished it, hehe.

Wow! While we were drinking our beer, the main dish showed up too, and the visuals were seriously stunning ⁄(⁄ ⁄°⁄–⁄°⁄ ⁄)⁄

It delighted the eyes before we even ate a bite. Aah~ I'm not gonna say I took 91,625 photos because I was so into the visuals ꒰⁎❛⃘ ⍘⃘ ❛⃘⁎꒱

Full spread of raw shrimp sashimi

Here's the evidence, haha. Thought it might look pretty with the flash on, so I tried it — what do you think? Does it give off Japan vibes? Reviews PLZ ^____^

Shrimp head fry, 5,000 won: crisp outside, tender inside

If you've got a bunch of delicious food and don't know what to eat first?

Always start with what's hot.

Especially fried food, since it's no good once it's cold. So we went for the shrimp head fry first, and I was genuinely shocked — no shrimp shell catching in your mouth at all, absolutely legendary crispy-outside-tender-inside texture ;;; And however they seasoned the batter, the savory depth was insane. I've had shrimp head fry plenty of places, but this was genuinely top-tier. Always order it together with the raw shrimp sashimi ദ്ദി,,-`_´-)੭

How many shrimp come with the 35,000 won raw shrimp sashimi?

The shrimp were also really large, which I think doubled the plump, bouncy texture. Guess the phrase "bigger means tastier" isn't just talk after all O o 。( 'o' ∋ )))♥

Raw shrimp sashimi on salt gimbap: the best combination

Having tasted the raw shrimp sashimi on its own, now for the combo I was most curious about — raw shrimp sashimi + salt gimbap, nom nom haha. Wow, but why is the salt gimbap this good? It tasted exactly like the simple gimbap my mom used to make me for breakfast before school as a kid,,

That instantly brought back memories, ugh 🚰·̫🚰 And when you put that salty, savory gimbap under the amazing raw shrimp sashimi — what more is there to say, it's just ridiculously, ridiculously, ridiculously good (⸝⸝˃̶͈ ˂̶͈⸝⸝)💕

Crab miso shell gratin, 8,000 won, to finish the night

This one's an amazing pairing with soju, so we quickly finished off our draft beer and switched over to soju, haha. That's just our vibe, obviously.

We'd finished all the food but still had soju left, so we added the crab miso shell gratin (₩8,000) ♡ (Won't tell you we also ran out of soju mid-meal and added another bottle.) Anyway, when you order this, the staff bring it out and light a little burner underneath like this. You get to eat it piping hot the whole time!

화로에 불을 올린 가니미소 게딱지 그라탕
Crab shell gratin served with crackers

Just stir it gently so it doesn't burn, then scoop it onto the crackers they give you — this is genuinely perfect as a snack even when you're already full ;; Lots of crab flavor, and it goes crazy well with the crackers, so it felt like eating a fancy dish, absolutely the best ♡(˃͈ ˂͈ )

Evening sky viewed after leaving the restaurant

By the time we finished and came out, the sky was pretty too, so I felt really, really good. Autumn, hurry up and get here ˚º ꒰⋆ꆤ ̫ ꆤ⋆꒱ º˚

Verdict: is Snack Bar Atashi worth a return trip for raw shrimp sashimi?

So that was my review of Snack Bar Atashi, the Dangsan Station bar! We found this place on the spot, but the vibe was great, the food was great, and it turned out to be a perfect day. Even though it's an izakaya, the seafood quality rivals a proper sashimi restaurant, so I think I'll keep thinking about it whenever I crave raw shrimp sashimi @,,@ Looks like they also do lunch service, so next time I want to go for lunch and try the curry too. Anyway, if you're looking for a decent izakaya near Dangsan Station, definitely give this place a visit ◖| ˘ω˘ |◗♪♫
