First shot from a visit to Jjeojeoseu, a grilled-plate bar in Sindang Jungang Market

Sindang is such a hot spot these days! There are tons of bars and restaurants tucked into Jungang Market, and one place that really caught my eye was Jjeojeoseu, which specializes in grilled plate dishes. I heard it mixes Mexican and Korean styles, so I went in half curious, half excited.

🏠 Steel tables and exposed ducts, tucked into a Jungang Market alley

Jjeojeoseu is set in an alley near Exit 7 of Sindang Jungang Market. It's in one of the market's typically narrow passages, but the sign makes it easy to spot once you see it. Luckily we got a table right away with no wait, though the tables further inside were already pretty full with groups having drinks.

Inside, stainless steel tables with red chairs as an accent color, and the ductwork on the ceiling is left exposed, giving it an industrial feel. The kitchen is open, so you can watch the cooking happen right in front of you. The tables aren't spaced very generously, so it felt more suited to a lively drinking crowd than a quiet date.

🍖 A Mexican platter with both beef ribs and chicken

Curious why it's known as a hot spot in Jungang Market, I ordered the signature beef rib Mexican platter right away. It cost ₩25,000.

Beef ribs and seasoned chicken thigh together on the platter

The meat wasn't just beef ribs — it also came with seasoned chicken thigh. The seasoning wasn't overpowering, well balanced, with a slight teriyaki-sauce vibe that kept me reaching for more.

Tortilla grilled until slightly charred on the surface

The tortillas that came with it were grilled well, with slightly charred surfaces. Piling the meat on top made for a much more satisfying bite.

The vegetable toppings were cabbage and leafy greens,

and the salsa, loaded with tomato and onion, tasted fresh with a sweet-and-sour kick.

Layering meat, vegetables and salsa on the tortilla and eating it all in one bite, the ingredients balanced each other out really well.

🧀 Crispy outside, soft inside: the rolled cheese potato pancake, a Jjeojeoseu signature

We also ordered Jjeojeoseu's best menu item alongside the platter: the rolled cheese potato pancake.

The outside was fried crispy while the inside kept that signature moist texture of potato pancake. The cheese inside was melted just enough that it wasn't greasy. Onion mixed in gave it a crunchy texture with every bite — it worked well both as a drinking snack and as a meal substitute.

True to its reputation as a Jungang Market hot spot, the evening tables fill up fast with drinking groups. If you want a quieter date, I'd recommend going right at opening time. There's no parking, so it's easier to take public transit or use a nearby public lot.
