Seongsan restaurant for post-hike brunch after Ilchulbong: Jejurowoon
In short
Jejurowoon Cheonghaewon Seongsan Ilchulbong Branch is a Jeju home-style Korean set-meal restaurant on Sinyang-ro in Seongsan-eup, Seogwipo. After a morning hike up Seongsan Ilchulbong, the writer stopped in on the way down and ordered the A set (24,000 won per person) for two, picking seafood hot pot and sea urchin seaweed soup, one of each. Braised hairtail, grilled tilefish, soy marinated crab and glutinous stone-pot rice finished with scorched-rice water made a filling brunch after the climb.

Straight to Jejurowoon after coming down from Seongsan Ilchulbong

We climbed Seongsan Ilchulbong early in the morning, got thoroughly windswept, and came down with our legs shaking and our stomachs growling. As soon as we got down, we headed straight to a Seongsan restaurant we'd already picked out to refuel!

Jejurowoon is just a few minutes' drive from the trail down from Seongsan Ilchulbong, so the route was genuinely perfect. We were hungry and a bit cranky after the hike, but the moment we walked in — spacious, clean interior!

Traveling any further after a tiring hike would have been a hassle, so the easy access made us happy the moment we arrived. Inside, the place was very spacious and comfortable, with generous space between tables, making for a relaxed dining atmosphere. The staff greeted us with bright, friendly smiles right at the entrance, which left a warm first impression.

Jejurowoon set menu prices and composition
Jejurowoon basically operates on a one-order-per-person policy, but the set menus, which let you enjoy a variety of Jeju flavors, can be ordered for two people or more. It's much more substantial and better value than ordering a la carte, and just reading the menu got me excited.

- A Set (₩24,000/person) braised hairtail + grilled tilefish + glutinous stone-pot rice + soy marinated crab + seafood hot pot or sea urchin seaweed soup
- B Set (₩21,000/person) braised mackerel with kimchi + grilled tilefish + glutinous stone-pot rice + soy marinated crab + seafood hot pot or sea urchin seaweed soup
- C Set (₩16,000/person) grilled tilefish + glutinous stone-pot rice + soy marinated crab + seafood hot pot or sea urchin seaweed soup
- D Set (₩18,000/person) black pork stir-fry + glutinous stone-pot rice + soy marinated crab + seafood hot pot or sea urchin seaweed soup

Since we'd come all the way to Jeju, we wanted to taste the signature local dishes in the most generous portions, so we didn't hesitate to order the A set! For the soup, we were craving something spicy and tangy, so we chose one seafood hot pot and one sea urchin seaweed soup.

We didn't wait long after ordering before the neat side dishes and main dishes started appearing on the table one by one. All laid out together, the sheer volume was almost table-breaking — an impressive sight. Seeing a proper full Jeju spread like this made me really glad we came.
Honestly, this is our favorite spot
Glutinous stone-pot rice and scorched-rice water
The first thing that caught my eye was the steaming glutinous stone-pot rice. The moment the lid came off, a subtle, nutty aroma of freshly cooked rice spread out, and every single grain glistened with a glossy shine that got the appetite going just from looking at it. We scooped the piping hot rice into bowls, poured warm water into the pot, and put the lid back on. The scorched-rice water eaten at the very end of the meal is the perfect warm finish for a body worn out from hiking.

How was the braised hairtail, the A set's main dish?
The main dish, braised hairtail (galchi-jorim), really lived up to expectations. It was packed with thick, plump chunks of hairtail, and the spicy yet savory sauce had soaked all the way through. I picked the flesh apart, piled it generously onto the warm stone-pot rice, and took a bite — the tender hairtail flesh and the deep, not-too-sharp seasoning filled my mouth. The sauce wasn't overly sweet or excessively spicy, so mixing it into the rice, topping it with hairtail and a slice of radish, made it absolutely irresistible with rice.

Grilled tilefish: crispy outside, moist inside
The grilled tilefish included in the set also exceeded expectations. Grilled to a golden brown, it was crispy on the outside and mild yet pleasantly salty on the inside, pairing beautifully with the stone-pot rice. Its distinctive nutty flavor really came through, making it hard to put the chopsticks down, and there was no fishy taste at all, so it was clean and enjoyable.

The side dishes were a hit too

Soy marinated crab: savory, not too salty
Since the main dishes were so good, I thought of the soy marinated crab (ganjang gejang) as more of a side item, but it had a quality that matched specialty crab restaurants. The crab was full of meat, and the soy sauce marinade, balanced perfectly between sweet and salty without being too salty, had soaked in nicely. The distinctive fishy taste of crab was completely tamed, so even people who don't usually enjoy soy marinated crab could probably eat it comfortably. It was fun to squeeze out the meat and pile it on top of the rice.

Seafood hot pot vs. sea urchin seaweed soup: which to choose
The seafood hot pot we picked as our optional dish was served bubbling hot, so we could enjoy it warm all the way to the end. It was packed with fresh seafood, and the broth was so deep and refreshing that taking a spoonful between bites of braised hairtail cleansed the palate perfectly. The spicy yet clean seafood broth felt like it opened up our tired, post-hike stomachs. If you prefer a deep, nutty flavor, go with the sea urchin seaweed soup as your main.

Why I recommend the A set for braised hairtail in Seongsan
If you want to properly taste local Jeju food and braised hairtail near Seongsan Ilchulbong, I'd strongly recommend Jejurowoon's A set. The savory stone-pot rice, the spicy-sweet sauce of the braised hairtail, the nutty grilled tilefish, the sweet-salty soy marinated crab, and the refreshing seafood hot pot — it's the ultimate value pack that lets you experience everything that makes this place known as a top Seongsan restaurant for braised hairtail.

At ₩24,000 per person, it didn't feel expensive at all given the generous portions and the quality and care put into the ingredients — a satisfying meal overall.

For anyone wanting to fill up properly after coming down from Seongsan Ilchulbong, or looking for a proper Korean meal to share with parents, family, or a partner, this place is a perfect choice. If we're ever in the Seongsan area again on a future Jeju trip, we'll definitely be back.
