Samdeok-dong bar in Daegu with cream udon and egg roll: Sangbong

Met up with a friend after a while, and we went looking for a good spot in Dongseong-ro to have dinner and a drink — that's how we ended up at Sangbong in Samdeok-dong haha. It's tucked in an alley rather than on Dongseong-ro's main street, so it wasn't too loud, which I loved!

This Daegu bar in Samdeok-dong is a little tricky to find, but you can definitely get there just by following a map app!

Unlike shops right on the main Dongseong-ro street, this one's tucked into an alley in the trendier 20s-30s area. Keep walking and you'll spot the letters ㅅ and ㅂ...!!

Sangbong Dongseong-ro is nicely done up with a hanok (traditional Korean house) feel and warm lighting. There's no dedicated parking, so you'll need to use a paid or public parking lot around Dongseong-ro/Samdeok-dong!

Inside Sangbong Dongseong-ro: a quiet hanok-style room

Here's the inside. The cozy interior with a traditional hanok feel and little decor pieces made for a great atmosphere haha. The slightly dim lighting was nice too — I could see why this is such a popular Samdeok-dong bar for its vibe.

What's on the menu at Sangbong Dongseong-ro?

Here's the menu board. Guide set / Sangbong set, garlic suyuk (boiled pork), suyuk, sundubu jeongol (soft tofu hot pot), samgyeop duruchigi (spicy stir-fried pork belly), boneless chicken feet in broth, burrata cheese potato pancake, spicy fish cake hot pot, clear fish cake hot pot, garlic soy chicken.

The side menu has mala cream udon, Sangbong cream udon, Min-gi's kimchi fried rice, Shin Ramyun risotto, and cream cheese crackers.

Sangbong cream udon (15,000 won): how does it taste?

This udon has shrimp, garlic scapes, and a cream sauce with a spicy kick added. It wasn't as thick as I expected — a bit runnier. Next time I'd like to try other menu items too haha, like the suyuk, burrata cheese potato pancake, or maybe the chicken.

Ugly cheese egg roll (9,000 won): cheese-stuffed and moist

The next Sangbong side dish is the ugly cheese egg roll! Just like the name says, it really is ugly. Price is ₩9,000.

It comes as one thick roll served with ketchup, not pre-cut, so we cut it with a spoon haha. There's a lot of cheese inside and it's soft, so it cuts easily.

It's super moist inside. Can you see that glossy cheese! If you visit Sangbong, a bar in Dongseong-ro, Daegu, I recommend the egg roll as a simple drinking snack.

Who is Sangbong Dongseong-ro best for?

That's my review of Sangbong, a bar in Dongseong-ro! It felt refreshingly different as a hanok-style Samdeok-dong bar. The cozy interior in particular makes it great for a date, but also perfect for a casual drink with friends ☺️ Sangbong as a Samdeok-dong bar pick — highly recommend!
