Haeundae Chinese restaurant with bubble lamps and tablet ordering

In short

Bueokgan Chinese Haeundae Branch is a Chinese restaurant on the ground floor of a standalone building at the start of Dalmaji-gil in Haeundae, Busan. Ordering from the tablet on each table, the writer had poached egg five-layer pork gan-jjajang (10,000 won), beef belly jjamppong (12,000 won) and black vinegar pork loin tangsuyuk (28,000 won), and the George Nelson bubble lamps and floor-to-ceiling windows made Bueokgan Chinese feel more like a restaurant than a typical Chinese spot. A good place to keep in mind for a date, a family meal or a group gathering.

These days Mipo and Cheongsapo get most of the attention in Haeundae thanks to the beach train, but locals and repeat visitors seem to gravitate toward the quieter Dalmaji-gil instead. This time I'm introducing a Chinese restaurant on Dalmaji-gil where the warm, upscale lighting adds a really emotional touch to the whole place ❤️

Where is Bueokgan Chinese Haeundae Branch, and where do you park?

Bueokgan Chinese Haeundae Branch sits right at the start of Dalmaji-gil.

It's also close to the Haeundae Hillstate Weave apartments, so it was easy to spot on the way up toward them. Rather than being tucked into a building full of shops, it stands alone right on the road, so it catches your eye from a distance!

Parking is available in the underground lot inside the building.

If that's full, you can also park right in front of the store entrance or along the curb across the street, which made it convenient to visit by car.

Just follow the arrows posted from the parking lot to the restaurant.

You can take the elevator straight up from the basement parking level.

Chinese restaurant on the 1st floor, European restaurant on the 2nd

Bueokgan Haeundae Branch apparently runs a whole complex of F&B spaces — a Chinese restaurant, a European restaurant, and a bakery café, all together. That must be why it operates out of its own standalone building. The Bueokgan Chinese we visited is on the first floor, while Bueokgan European restaurant runs on the second. We visited the Chinese restaurant this time, but if the food is good, I'll have to check out the Western restaurant upstairs next 😃

Arrived at the entrance!

Bubble lamps and floor-to-ceiling windows: the interior at Bueokgan Chinese

From the entrance to the hallway leading inside, nothing looked like the typical Chinese restaurant I had in mind. The clean interior with the Bueokgan Chinese logo engraved on it felt more like walking into a proper restaurant.

Once inside, a half-open kitchen comes into view first. Looking at the sleek interior alone, I actually second-guessed myself for a second — is this really a Chinese restaurant, or a Western one? Hahahaha.

But the Asian-style framed art scattered around the space subtly kept the Chinese restaurant mood alive.

There were a few tables near the entrance too. The spacing between tables was generous, so it felt relaxed rather than cramped. On the wall shelves, several types of gaoliang liquor were displayed — a clear giveaway that this is, in fact, a Chinese restaurant.

Heading further inside, the moody lighting immediately caught my eye. Turns out this lighting is George Nelson's bubble lamp. Lamps of various shapes casting warm light hung throughout the space, making the mood even more atmospheric ❤️

The weather that day happened to be gorgeous, and the greenery visible through the huge windows blended with the warm lighting to make the whole dining room look really pretty!

Three dishes ordered from the tablet on the table

Time to sit down at a table I liked and place an order! Every table at Bueokgan Chinese has its own tablet, so ordering was easy through table-order.

  • Poached egg five-layer pork jjajangmyeon — ₩10,000
  • Beef belly jjamppong — ₩12,000
  • Black vinegar pork loin tangsuyuk — ₩28,000

Since it was our first visit, we made sure to order the restaurant's signature dishes!

Fitting for an upscale-feeling Chinese restaurant, jasmine tea was served instead of plain water.

For the basic side dishes, we got jjachai (pickled radish-like Chinese pickle) and danmuji (pickled radish).

Ta-da~! Our order has arrived! ❤️ Poached egg five-layer pork jjajangmyeon, beef belly jjamppong, and black vinegar pork loin tangsuyuk — the table was completely full.

First up, the restaurant's signature dish: poached egg five-layer pork jjajangmyeon (jjajangmyeon, a noodle dish in black bean sauce)!

You crack the poached egg right on top and mix it all together with the jjajang sauce! Unlike regular jjajangmyeon, having the poached egg and five-layer pork belly in there made it noticeably richer and more savory 👍

Next, beef belly jjamppong (jjamppong, a spicy seafood noodle soup)! As you can tell just from the photo, it's really generous with the beef belly.

Probably because there's so much meat in it, the broth was incredibly rich and deep 🤤 If you're someone who prefers rice over noodles, I bet this broth would be amazing poured over rice too! And honestly... this is exactly the kind of thing you crave on a rainy day! If you're looking for a good jjamppong spot in Haeundae, I'd recommend the beef belly jjamppong at Bueokgan Chinese Haeundae Branch!

Last but not least, black vinegar pork loin tangsuyuk (tangsuyuk, sweet and sour crispy pork)! They apparently make the sauce with black vinegar sourced directly from China.

Compared to the usual tangsuyuk sauce, this one wasn't strongly tangy — it felt softer and smoother. I'm not great with very sour flavors, so personally I really liked this sauce! The crispy fried pork loin coated generously in sauce, eaten together with onion, was seriously delicious~!

Is Bueokgan Chinese good for a date, family dinner or group meal?

I was curious about this place because of the pretty atmosphere, and after actually visiting, the food was satisfying too. Most of all, I liked that the mood felt so different from a typical Chinese restaurant, which makes it a great pick for a date or a family meal. And since they take group reservations, it would also work well for club gatherings or alumni get-togethers. Everything we tried was delicious, so I'd love to try other menu items next time — and I really should check out the Bueokgan European restaurant on the second floor that I mentioned earlier too 😃
