Where is Risan? Paragon Central City 3, Osong 2 Industrial Complex

Risan is a newly opened black pork restaurant on the first floor of the Osong Station Paragon Central City 3 building, in the new Osong district within Osong 2 Industrial Complex, Cheongju. It's open daily from 17:00 to 23:00 and there's a building parking lot you can use. Today I'm introducing one of the hottest new samgyeopsal (pork belly) spots in the newly developing Osong district of Cheongju!

Risan is located in the Osong Station Paragon Central City 3 building, one of the fastest-growing areas of Cheongju right now, and it's a black pork specialist I'd recommend to anyone who really wants to enjoy proper meat haha.

True to a newly built building in Osong Paragon 3, the interior is clean and the vibe is comfortable enough for neighborhood folks to drop in for meat haha. And on nice days, they open the outer windows so you can eat with an open, airy view outside haha. On rainy days it gets even more of that emotional soju-and-samgyeopsal mood haha.

The pork Risan, this Osong samgyeopsal spot, uses is black pork based on the Berkshire breed — apparently the priciest of black pork varieties and genuinely hard to source, a premium meat. But the price is really reasonable considering that!

What side dishes come with the meal at Risan

Basic side dish spread at Risan
Lettuce wraps and pajeori side dish

Fresh lettuce wraps and the classic side that's amazing with meat — pajeori (scallion salad)! Salted seafood, ssamjang (dipping paste), garlic and more come out clean and neat haha.

Honestly the side dishes aren't that different from other meat restaurants!! But let me show you why Risan is a great place with your own eyes haha.

Raw black pork special samgyeopsal, 170g for two servings, set on the table

Here's the Jirisan Berkshire black pork samgyeopsal that Risan, this Osong samgyeopsal spot, is proud of!!!! Ugh... can you see it?? The top-grade condition of the belly! Isn't the meat gorgeous? Haha. It's because they use genuinely fresh, top-condition pork belly that Risan can't help but be a great samgyeopsal restaurant lol.

Cross-section of Jirisan Berkshire black pork samgyeopsal

It has a clear light-pink to bright-red color, the cross-section shows a really distinct separation between meat and fat layers, and the grain is fine and tight haha. Anyone who's eaten a lot of meat will recognize it at a glance — insane condition haha.

On top of that it's thicker-cut than regular samgyeopsal — honestly this is in my top three for samgyeopsal condition I've ever seen haha. Finally found a real hidden gem in Osong 2 Industrial Complex!! Ugh, kind of a place I want to keep to myself haha.

And matching the perfect meat!!! Is the stone plate at Risan, this Osong samgyeopsal spot!!! T_T Honestly this is my favorite combination for a grill plate. To eat samgyeopsal at its most delicious, you really need to grill it on that stone plate!! The stone plate holds heat well, so the meat cooks slowly and evenly while preserving the juices and clean flavor perfectly haha. Stone plate + top-grade samgyeopsal, can anything beat that??

Dip it deep in the oil-and-salt sauce and take a bite — the chewy texture of the Jirisan black pork rushes into your mouth right away, and then the juices inside the belly burst out spreading a savory meaty aroma, which I really can only describe as insanely good T_T Can't believe a place like this opened near my house T_T.

Wrapped in lettuce it's absolutely amazing too haha. There's definitely a difference between regular pork samgyeopsal and Jirisan black pork samgyeopsal. Sizzling away on the stone plate, the outside gets crispy while the inside stays full of juicy moisture, so you really get to taste proper samgyeopsal. I officially declare this the top samgyeopsal spot in Osong 2 Industrial Complex T_T.

Free doenjang jjigae with rice, plus steamed egg from the review event

Savory doenjang jjigae with a bowl of rice

I ordered rice partway through and doenjang jjigae came free with it, so I didn't have to order a stew separately, which was really nice! It has a savory, slightly spicy flavor haha.

Steamed egg piled high in a large earthenware pot

This is the steamed egg you get for joining the review event — the special thing about Risan's steamed egg, this Osong samgyeopsal spot, is that it comes in a big pot instead of a small one, so the portion is genuinely generous haha. See how it's piled up high?? That alone is basically enough to go with a whole bottle of soju.

Adding one 170g serving of black pork special moksal

Raw black pork special moksal, 170g for one serving

I was really curious about the moksal (pork neck) too at Risan, this samgyeopsal spot in Osong 2 Industrial Complex, so I ordered one extra serving, and it was a truly excellent choice haha. It's a different kind of insanely good from the belly — clean and light, with juiciness and flavor pulled up to the max haha.

The moksal gives you a texture that's a bit chewier yet also soft, and I really recommend trying it at least once haha. A genuine samgyeopsal spot located in the Osong Paragon 3 building in Osong 2 Industrial Complex near Osong Station!!! Great for family gatherings, dates, company dinners and more — really recommended, and this is the place??!
