Raw beef & mungtigi set for a family meal in Buk-gu, Daegu: Bonghwa
In short
Bonghwa Saenggogi Bonjeom is a raw beef and yukhoe (raw beef tartare) restaurant in the Unamji food alley of Buk-gu, Daegu. The writer ate the A course for two (120g yukhoe + 130g raw beef) in a private room with kids, and was struck by the generous side dishes — four bowls of seaweed soup and four fried eggs thrown in. With a bamboo-forest-view room and plenty of private rooms, it works well for a family gathering too.

Located in Unamji food alley, next to Gukwoo Cathedral
Bonghwa Saenggogi sits in the Unamji food alley near Gukwoo Cathedral in Chilgok. It's been around for a long time, so many people already know and trust it as Chilgok's go-to raw beef spot.

The inside is really spacious — even more so than it looks from outside!

A restaurant with rooms, private group spaces
There are also plenty of rooms further inside, set up as private group rooms, great for gatherings and events. Bonghwa Saenggogi in Chilgok, Daegu has such a nice vibe for having a drink together.

A cozy atmosphere and interior. Inside the room you can even see a bamboo forest view — good! It's a warm, calm spot that's nice for a drink, and also works fine for a family meal with parents and kids.

Menu and country of origin
Chilgok's Bonghwa Saenggogi menu has a course where you can enjoy both dishes evenly, plus generous single-item options. And plenty of side dishes to go with them.

The origin labeling is thorough too — even the owner's own origin is listed, haha, that's funny and such a nice touch!

The basic spread: liver, tripe, and seaweed soup
After ordering, this basic spread arrived. Wow, really generous and neatly presented. Liver and tripe came out too, and since we came with the kids, they gave us four whole bowls of seaweed soup, thank you so much...

Sweet, tangy, umami-packed dishes all around. There was braised egg, old-school sausage, and seaweed soup too, so it worked well as a full meal for the kids. Contrary to what I worried about before coming, we really ate well, haha.
A course for two: 120g yukhoe + 130g raw beef

The main dish arrived. Since it was just the two of us, we ordered the A course for two, made up of yukhoe and raw beef. So glossy and shiny — you could tell right away it was fresh.

Absolutely gorgeous visuals! The composition, the colors — I'm obsessed, haha. Such a nutty aroma~ Having both yukhoe and raw beef together means you can mix and match to your taste!

A light beer on the side~ haha, and suddenly the kids butted in... when the side dishes are this good, who can resist, haha.

How's the yukhoe?
The yukhoe seasoning wasn't too heavy or overpowering, which I liked even more. Scallion shreds mixed in gave it good texture, and it had a nutty flavor with a slight sweetness — really moreish!

Mungtigi raw beef and dipping sauce
Wow, so glossy — the shine is no joke! There's a reason this Chilgok, Daegu raw beef spot has lasted so long. The dipping sauce was the real kicker too — honestly, raw beef lives or dies by its sauce, and this one, loaded with red pepper flakes, wasn't heavy or bitter at all, it just clicked perfectly.

Tteokbokki, cabbage pancake, and fried eggs too
Next came tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes) and a cabbage pancake! It doesn't just end with the basic banchan — more keeps coming, haha. Just when a spicy craving hit, the tteokbokki showed up — wow, perfect timing. A raw beef restaurant with great side dishes indeed~~

They even made fried eggs for the kids to eat, T_T — a whopping four of them... so touched, T_T. They even drizzled soy sauce on top, properly done! The seaweed soup was rich and delicious too, and the fried eggs were a huge hit.

Haha, when the food's this good, let's strike up the band~~!!! The kids got even more excited, haha. Everyone polished off their bowl of rice and did a little happy dance~
