Family Korean BBQ in Dalseo, Daegu with Iberico pork and hot-pot rice

Went out for makchang (grilled pork intestine) as our weekend family meal :) The food was great, but honestly the atmosphere was just as good. Had to share it with you all!

The bamboo-forest path and outdoor tables

If you park at Galbi Dungji, you can also enter through a path between the bamboo trees~ There are outdoor tables too :) I bet eating out here in the bamboo forest once the weather cools down would feel amazing.

An interior full of retro decor

Here's the inside. It's spacious with lots of tables :) True to a Bonri-dong, Daegu favorite, it filled up fast!!!! Definitely a proven spot 👍 The vibe is full-on retro, with all kinds of nostalgic knick-knacks on display around the room — fun to look around☺️

Kiosk ordering, and order the hot-pot rice first

Here's the menu. Every table has its own kiosk~ Order through the kiosk! They even have hot-pot rice!!!

The basic table setting and self-serve bar

Here's the basic table setting :) Beef radish soup, braised quail eggs with beef, radish salad, kimchi, muk (jelly noodle salad), pickled radish, dipping sauce, salt, and makchang sauce. That beef radish soup was loaded with meat and genuinely delicious!! I mixed it with rice for the kids and they finished the whole bowl 👍

There's a self-serve bar. Feel free to grab whatever side dishes you need. I had to go get the lettuce wraps myself though!

My favorite thing by far — the water bottle!!!!! An orange juice bottle used as a water bottle!!!!! I wanted to take it home so badly😘 And the water inside is barley tea — total retro vibes, right?ㅋㅎ

How were the Iberico makchang, pork neck, and spicy makchang?

They grilled the Iberico makchang for us first :) They cook the braised eggs and kimchi right on the grill too~ It comes pre-cooked once, so it's ready fast. The makchang had zero funky smell and was really tender! Make sure to eat it with the radish salad side dish!!!!! The radish salad is genuinely delicious. Goes perfectly with the makchang 👍

Now the Iberico pork neck goes on. Grill grill grill. The makchang was tasty, but the pork neck was even better!? People usually think pork neck is dry and tough, but this was nothing like that — totally tender! And every bite bursts with juice. If you come here, you absolutely must order the pork neck!

This is the Iberico spicy grilled makchang! It comes fully cooked already, so you can eat it right away, or grill it a bit more like I did. There's garlic, rice cake, and mushrooms mixed in. To my taste it wasn't spicy at all — more like a sweet-and-mild Shin Ramyun kind of flavor, and the sauce clings to it thick and well.

Finishing with hot-pot rice + shepherd's purse doenjang stew

While we were eating the meat~ the hot-pot rice we'd ordered earlier arrived.

Shepherd's purse doenjang stew! The moment it arrived I understood why the price is ₩4,000 😁 The stone pot is huge, and the portion is genuinely generous. Big chunks of tofu, plenty of shepherd's purse, and they even put radish in the stew. So good,,😘 Ask for it spicy and they'll make it good and fiery. How do you resist the hot-pot rice + doenjang stew combo, honestly ㅎ.ㅎ

After the meal, they even have after-dinner candy ready. Nostalgic green grape candy☺️ And to top it off — mouthwash too!!! Absolutely perfect ☺️

Who should visit

The makchang was great, but the pork neck was truly the highlight. Order the pork neck, no question. And once you're done eating~ finish with the hot-pot rice and shepherd's purse doenjang stew!~! The staff were kind, and between the retro vibe and the forest setting, we had a really great meal ^*^
