A retro charcoal makchang spot at Bonri Intersection

My partner and I love makchang (grilled beef or pork intestines) so much that we have to eat it at least once a week—it is one of our ultimate comfort foods! We visited Supbul Makchang, which people said had both a great atmosphere and great food in Bonri-dong.

Supbul Makchang, a local favorite in Dalseo, Daegu, is near Bonri Intersection, and it was easy to visit by car thanks to the free parking. The concept is a countryside grandmother’s house from the 1980s and ’90s, highlighting fresh ingredients from the forest and nature, the care put into oak-charcoal grilling, and memories of an old hometown.

Even though the restaurant was quite large, it was already full, and by the time we had been eating for a while, people were even waiting. There were so many people that I could not properly photograph the interior.....

A restaurant atmosphere like a countryside grandmother’s house

Supbul Makchang really captures that retro feeling—even the water bottles reminded me of a countryside grandmother’s house, haha. The chilled barley tea was seriously delicious 🤎

The owner’s eye for placing cute little props throughout the restaurant was lovely~ I think parents would enjoy coming here too, because it would bring back memories.

Side dishes and beef radish soup

Once you sit down, the basic side dishes are brought to your table. If you need more, you can use the self-serve bar, which was nicely kept too.

Beef radish soup comes as a basic side, and its clean yet deep flavor instantly got my appetite going...! It had big pieces of beef and plenty of radish too.

Trying several cuts with the 51,000 won set

  • 2 servings makchang
  • 1 serving spicy makchang
  • 1 serving pork neck
  • Cheongdo Hanjae minari (water parsley)

We ordered the 51,000 won set so the two of us could try a little of several kinds of meat. The value was so good that we had to order it ✌🏻

As soon as the makchang arrived, both my partner and I went, “Wow, this makchang is so clean-looking!” When we cut into it, it really was pale and clean—I still remember it.

You can grill mushrooms and potatoes on the griddle, and simmer kimchi and jangjorim (braised beef in soy sauce) on it too. There were so many things to enjoy alongside the meat, which made me very happy.

You simply cannot resist somaek (soju and beer mixed together) with makchang this good....🤎 It was just the thing to wash away the fatigue of a hard day.

I recommend grilling the spicy makchang

Supbul Makchang’s spicy makchang is seriously delicious. You absolutely, absolutely have to order it~~~⭐️⭐️ I like spicy food, so it was deliciously hot for me, but it may be too spicy for anyone who does not handle heat well....!

They said we could eat it as is or grill it, so we grilled half and ate half as it was. Grilling it gave it more smoky flavor and let the sauce caramelize, so I recommend grilling it, haha.

Lastly, we ordered ramen to cut through all that meat fat, and they even added an egg. A meat restaurant that puts an egg in the ramen is precious....😊

Supbul Makchang in Bonri-dong, Daegu, has such a distinct and unusual atmosphere and concept, and the makchang quality was excellent too, so I was very satisfied. We headed home full, saying we had found a new great makchang spot for the first time in a while~~👍🏻
