Chimsan-dong, Daegu beef dinner with dessert rice puffs: Gogi 9dan

I'd gone to my favorite café in Chimsan-dong and was trying to figure out what to have for dinner. That day I was craving good beef, so after some searching I ended up at Gogi 9dan Chimsan Direct Branch. If you're looking for a place to eat beef in Chimsan-dong, this seemed like a solid pick — and once I actually visited, the restaurant turned out to be spacious with easy parking too, so I had a comfortable meal ❤️❤️

Where is Gogi 9dan Chimsan Direct Branch, and where do you park?

Gogi 9dan Chimsan Direct Branch is at 197 Chimsan-nam-ro, Buk-gu, Daegu. It's on a main road in Chimsan-dong so it wasn't hard to find, and best of all, parking was easy.

Parking can be a bit of a hassle when you drive somewhere, but there's dedicated parking on the building's first floor, so I could park and walk straight in ☺️☺️ It seems like a good option if you're looking for a family meal spot or a place to eat with a group in Chimsan-dong.

Once I stepped inside Gogi 9dan Chimsan Direct Branch, the restaurant turned out to be bigger than I expected. The tables were spaced generously, so there was no cramped feeling of sitting right next to the next table — plenty of room to eat comfortably. The tables are roomy too, so it's good for a family meal and would also work well for group gatherings or company dinners 👍👍

And right as I walked in, something caught my eye — the staff were prepping the meat themselves. Watching them butcher the meat right in front of me somehow made me trust the place even more ❤️❤️

After the meal, there was an Americano and rice puffs waiting as dessert. Getting full on beef and finishing off with a cup of coffee felt like they were looking after you right to the end — the rice puffs were the best 🫢🫢

There was also a baby chair ready, so families visiting with kids should be able to eat comfortably too 🐥🐥

Menu, prices and how half-plate orders work at Gogi 9dan

At Gogi 9dan, your first order has to be a full plate, but after that you can mix and match by ordering half-plate + half-plate ☺️☺️ Perfect for someone like me who'd rather taste several cuts than stick to just one. (There's a lunch special too, so it seems like a good spot to come for lunch as well.)

What we ordered for dinner

• 🍱 One 9-course set

Ordering two kinds of beef in half-plates each meant I could compare the flavors side by side, and adding the 9-course set on top made the table look super loaded 🫢🫢 The jjigae (stew) ended up sitting there and I completely forgot about it... oops.

The side dishes that come with the beef

Before the meat came out, the banchan arrived one by one, and everything was laid out clean and tidy. Seasoned crab, japchae (stir-fried glass noodles), scallion kimchi, and other side dishes that pair well with meat came out in variety.

They even set out a kids' meal tray, which I appreciated ☺️☺️

The 9-course set: yukhoe, sushi, jjolmyeon and pork kimchi jjigae

The 9-course set we ordered together came with yukhoe (beef tartare) + pork kimchi jjigae + jjolmyeon + fresh wasabi with sushi, so there was plenty of variety to eat alongside the meat.

Out of everything, the yukhoe was my favorite ❤️❤️ Eating a bite of yukhoe in between the beef gave a totally different feeling, and I kept reaching for more. Making my own sushi was fun too — putting meat on rice with a little fresh wasabi and assembling it myself felt a lot more special than just eating the meat plain.

How did the fresh short ribs and flower short rib taste?

The beef for the day came out right away ❤️❤️ I grilled the raw short ribs first. As the meat started cooking on the pan, that savory smell drifted up — beef really is exciting from the moment it starts grilling 🫢🫢

Cooked to the right doneness, one bite showed off the meat's clean, mild flavor. Instead of being tough or dry, it was tender to chew with a gentle juiciness 🤎🤎 I tried the raw short ribs on their own first rather than piling on toppings, then added a little fresh wasabi — and beef plus fresh wasabi really is the best combo ❤️ Clean but with the savory flavor of the meat coming through even more, I kept picking up piece after piece.

Next was the flower short rib 🌸🌸, which had its own charm, different from the raw short ribs. It's softer, with a moister chew, so beef lovers would really enjoy it.

I especially liked ordering the two in half-plates that day 👍👍 Sticking to just one cut can feel a bit lacking, but going between raw short ribs and flower short rib made the meal more fun, tasting the differences. If you want to try multiple cuts of beef in Chimsan-dong, ordering by the half-plate seems like a good approach 👍

Is Gogi 9dan Chimsan good for a family meal in Chimsan-dong?

I ended up at Gogi 9dan while searching for a beef place for dinner after visiting my favorite café in Chimsan-dong, and once I actually went, everything from the clean exterior to the spacious dining room, generous table spacing, and dedicated parking made for a comfortable place to eat overall 🙏🏻 Seeing the staff prep meat right at the entrance made me trust the place even more personally, and being able to order raw short ribs and flower short rib in half-plates each suited us well since we wanted to try multiple cuts.

On top of that, having the 9-course set with yukhoe, sushi, jjolmyeon, and pork kimchi jjigae made for a pretty hearty meal. If you're looking for a family meal spot in Chimsan-dong, or a beef restaurant with room for a group, or if you're searching for good Daegu beef and it's led you toward Chimsan-dong, Gogi 9dan is worth considering! More than anything, the meat was delicious and the staff were kind, so I left in a good mood ☺️❤️ Finishing with an Americano and rice puffs for dessert made for a satisfying wrap-up.
