I went to Gogi 9dan Chimsan branch in Chimsan-dong, Daegu, when I wanted to eat proper beef 🥩🤎
The place was clean and the atmosphere relaxed, so it seemed great for eating with friends, and equally fine for a family meal or a group gathering 😊
Parking and the playroom at Gogi 9dan Chimsan Direct Branch
🚗 A Chimsan-dong restaurant with no parking worries. Parking is a surprisingly big deal when you go out for beef, and Gogi 9dan has a spacious lot, so it was easy to visit by car 😊

It's nice not having to stress about parking when visiting as a family or in a bigger group.
At Gogi 9dan you can also see the meat being trimmed right inside the restaurant, prepared piece by piece, which raised my expectations for the quality 👀
Is Gogi 9dan good for visiting with kids?
Another reason I'd recommend this for a family meal is that the restaurant has a full playroom 🥰 There's a space where kids can play for a bit while everyone eats, which should be especially convenient for anyone looking for a barbecue place to bring children.

Why the marinated crab banchan comes with a refill
🦀 Among the banchan (side dishes) at Gogi 9dan Chimsan Direct Branch, the marinated crab was genuinely the surprise of the meal ❤️ And it even comes with one free refill.

Honestly, I didn't expect much from a marinated crab side dish at a barbecue restaurant, but I was surprised the moment I tried it.
The seasoning wasn't too sharp, the crab meat was quite substantial, and the sauce itself was so good it held up to many dedicated crab restaurants. I kept reaching for it even while eating meat. If you love marinated crab, you have to try this 👍🏻
Getting a free refill made it even better, and it was good enough that it could be sold on its own as a menu item rather than just a banchan — it left a real impression on me personally.

A serving robot brings the dishes to the table
🤖 Also, something that was quietly fun here: a serving robot brings the food out. Seeing my order arrive loaded on the robot made me look twice at first out of curiosity.
Flower ribs 250g: the tender cut
Flower ribs (kkotgalbi) 250g
As you can see in the photo, the marbling is really beautifully distributed. Flower ribs feel much more tender than skirt steak, so ordering both cuts together was genuinely fun for comparison.

The first bite was juicy, nutty and tender all at once — so good 🤤

If skirt steak's charm is a chewy texture and a deep meaty aroma, flower ribs are all soft, juicy tenderness — I'd recommend ordering both instead of choosing just one.

If you're visiting with fellow meat lovers, ordering one of each cut to share seems like a good idea 🫶🏻

Nuruk salt on the table at Gogi 9dan
🧂 Instead of plain salt for dipping the meat, they had nuruk salt made by fermenting nuruk (fermentation starter) prepared as well.

It's salty with an extra layer of savoriness compared to regular salt, which worked well to bring out the beef's natural flavor 🥩
What's in the 18,000-won 9dan value set
👑 The great-value 9dan set
With a name like that, I got curious while eating and ended up ordering it 😆 It's normally ₩31,000 but is currently sold for ₩18,000, so if you want to try several dishes at once, it's a pretty good deal 👍🏻

And the lineup is packed:
- Hanwoo yukhoe (raw beef tartare) 80g
- Pork kimchi jjigae (stew)
- Jjolmyeon (chewy cold noodles)
- Fresh wasabi sushi
All of that comes out at once.

The jjolmyeon in particular has a tangy, spicy kick that was great for cutting through any richness from eating beef.

The hanwoo yukhoe was a nice light bite before diving into the meat, and the fresh wasabi sushi paired surprisingly well alongside the barbecue 🍣

When you're eating meat nonstop, you eventually crave something tangy or something with broth. This set is packed with exactly those dishes to eat alongside the barbecue 😋
The pork kimchi jjigae in the set
🍲 I figured the pork kimchi jjigae in the 9dan set was just a side dish, but it turned out more generous than expected.
It's packed with pork, so the solid ingredients alone impress, and the kimchi isn't just any kimchi — it's well-aged mukeunji, giving it a spicy, deep flavor 😋
Skirt steak 250g: the cut with deeper beef flavour
Skirt steak (anchangsal) 250g

The marbling running densely through the meat made it look great even before it hit the grill 😳

Grilled over charcoal, a nutty meaty aroma rose right up, and cooking it with a browned outside and a moist inside was exactly right.
The distinctive chewy texture of skirt steak was there, with a nutty flavor building the more you chewed — a cut beef lovers should enjoy 🥩
I tend to prefer cuts where you can really taste the meat's own aroma over overly fatty ones, so skirt steak was especially my favorite 😋

It's delicious even with just a light dip of salt, and however you dress it up to your taste, you keep reaching for it.
Dessert that replaces a café stop after dinner
Dessert

☕️ After eating meat, people usually head to a café for round two, right? Here, there was no need to go anywhere else. From patbingsu (shaved ice dessert) to ppeongtwigi (puffed rice snack) to plum tea, the dessert lineup was more varied than expected.

No need for a café second round — I got dessert fully sorted right at Gogi 9dan 🫶🏻
The plum tea was nice to sip after the meal to cleanse the palate, and there were even takeout ice cups so you could grab something cold to go 🧊💚

There's also a coffee machine using Starbucks beans off to the side, so you can grab a warm coffee right after the meal ☕️

Lunch at Gogi 9dan: shabu kalguksu in the 10,000-won range
🍲 At lunch, Gogi 9dan Chimsan Direct Branch also serves shabu kalguksu (noodle soup) for around ₩10,000, so you can eat a filling meal without much of a burden on your wallet 🤎 Even on days you're not going out specifically for beef, this could be a good option if you're looking for a good-value lunch.
