In short

Sangnok Hoegwan Yeontan Gui Goseong Branch is a briquette-grill Korean BBQ restaurant on the main food street of Goseong-dong in Buk-gu, Daegu, serving pork, beef and seafood such as scallops, king prawns and abalone. Charcoal-grilled samgyeopsal, the signature dish at Sangnok Hoegwan Yeontan Gui Goseong Branch

Sangnok Hoegwan Yeontan Gui Goseong Branch — charcoal-grilled pork belly, a Goseong-dong favorite near Buk-gu District Office.

Let me introduce a Goseong-dong favorite where you can enjoy pork, beef and all kinds of seafood like scallops, shrimp and abalone✨️ There's the romance of grilling over charcoal, plus every single side dish was delicious, which made me like the place even more. By dinnertime it was packed with everyone from families to all sorts of age groups, a true neighborhood favorite by word of mouth. Here's my review of Sangnok Hoegwan.

Sangnok Hoegwan Yeontan Gui Goseong Branch has quite a lot of parking space in the alley behind the restaurant. The spots in front are usually full, so head around back and you should be able to park comfortably.

Sangnok Hoegwan sits right on the main street where Goseong-dong's restaurants cluster together, so it wasn't hard to find at all.

Spacious interior of Sangnok Hoegwan with many tables

Maybe because I arrived on the early side, the restaurant was pretty quiet at first, but customers kept streaming in soon after haha

The interior is quite spacious with a lot of tables, so luckily there was no wait, but seeing a waiting board made me think there could be a line during peak hours.

The tank for storing seafood sits right in the middle of the restaurant. Even at a glance it's clearly kept spotless 👍

There's a self-serve bar so you can freely grab extra side dishes. Every single one was tasty and paired so well with the meat that I went back for seconds — and thirds.

What really sets Sangnok Hoegwan apart in Goseong-dong is above all its wide-ranging menu lineup 🫶

Samgyeopsal and moksal, gaemaegisal and hangjeong moksal, makchang and pork skin, beef galbi and yeomtong (heart), scallops and cheonggae (razor clams), abalone and shrimp — there's a huge range of choice, and you can enjoy meat and seafood together. Meat comes in 100g servings per person, which made it great for trying a little of everything.

I'd planned to order both meat and scallops, but I got too full while eating and decided to save the scallops for next time 🥲 Maybe I should've ordered the scallops before the meat haha

What comes in the 35,000 won six-cut pork set

Sangnok Hoegwan's pork-by-the-geun set gives you six different cuts for ₩35,000. The basic side dishes were set up in no time.

Grilling marshmallows while we waited haha — somehow it tastes even better when you haven't had one in a while.

The meat came out right away and oh my... the portion was huge. Six different cuts alone, and thinking about it, the price is really reasonable too. Such a great-value spot in Goseong-dong 👍

We started the first round with samgyeopsal and moksal.

This was my first time eating meat grilled over charcoal haha. The air vents are at the bottom, and you can just ask the staff to adjust them for you.

They told us not to cut the meat while grilling, so I held off cutting it as long as I could — and the juices burst out 🎉 So moist and tender, absolutely delicious.

Plus there were so many side dishes that go well with the meat, so you can just pick whatever you like — kimchi is still the best 👍

Hangjeong moksal, samgyeop apsal, baebaji-sal and pork skin

Hangjeong moksal has that signature crisp texture paired with rich, savory fat — the combination is amazing. If you love hangjeong, you could easily order it as a single dish!

These cuts are samgyeop apsal and baebaji-sal. They're unfamiliar cuts, but once you try them, they're every bit as good as samgyeop and moksal.

The apsal in particular looked low in fat, so I expected it to be dry, but it was completely the opposite 🙅‍♀️ Light and chewy yet tender, I kept reaching for more.

Baebaji-sal has a slightly chewy texture and more fat, but it just melted in my mouth ☺️

Chewy charcoal-grilled pork skin

The last cut in the pork set — pork skin 🐷 That signature chewy, gelatinous bounce was there haha

Finishing with 8,900 won beef galbisal and 2,000 won doenjang jjigae

A single serving of beef galbisal, ordered as an extra

Maybe because I'd already eaten so many kinds of meat, I was already full, so I gave up on the scallops and just ordered galbisal for a light taste.

Beef galbisal on the charcoal grill

Even as a single serving, the portion was pretty generous.

It's galbisal, but it was less fatty than I expected, with a savory, deep meaty flavor that got better the more I chewed — very satisfying 🥰

Doenjang jjigae and a bowl of rice to finish the meal

For dessert, I also ordered a doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew), since it would've been a shame to skip it — and it turned out to be surprisingly amazing 🫢 The clean, refreshing broth had me polishing off a full bowl of rice haha

Even with such a big menu, every dish felt satisfying thanks to the quality of the base ingredients — a real Goseong-dong favorite 🫶 Now that shrimp season is back, I'll have to come back and go all out on seafood next time.
