Today I'm introducing a Gyodong, Jung-gu, Daegu restaurant — Uldong Bossam!!

Around Dongseong-ro and Gyodong in Jung-gu, Daegu, there are tons of good-vibe cafés and bars, but it's hard to find a place that serves properly plated Korean food or bossam. Uldong Bossam is a spot where you can get a warm, value-for-money Korean meal set.

Where is Uldong Bossam, and what are its hours?

From the outside, with red brick tile and warm lighting, it feels less like a traditional bossam joint and more like a modern, clean hotspot these days. Perfect for a date or a get-together, haha.

The inside also has wood-tone interiors and calm lighting working together for a pleasant, clean feel!! Tables are spaced generously and there's bar seating too, so eating solo shouldn't feel awkward at all, haha.

Ordering is done via tablet!!

  • ⭐️ Uldong Bossam (Small) ₩29,000 / (Medium) ₩39,000 / (Large) ₩49,000
  • ⭐️ Bossam set meal ₩10,900 (extra meat +₩2,000)
  • ⭐️ Boiled pork hot pot ₩35,000
  • ⭐️ Potato pancake ₩9,000
  • ⭐️ Minari pancake ₩9,000

For a bit over ₩10,000, you can enjoy a full bossam set along with sundubu-jjigae. With today's prices, bossam usually runs at least ₩30,000, so this is really good value. Today I ordered the medium size!!

Another table's potato pancake looked so good, haha. Next time I'll order that alongside the bossam. Protein needs carbs too, haha haha.

Basic spread of white kimchi and namul at Uldong Bossam

Side dishes and the sesame sauce you grind in a mortar

First, the basic side dish spread arrives — neat and fairly generous. It comes with baek-kimchi (white kimchi), gat-kimchi (mustard leaf kimchi), garlic scapes, seasoned bean sprouts, various namul, plus fresh lettuce and napa cabbage for wraps.

Special sauce made by grinding sesame in a mortar

There's also a fun little touch — grinding sesame in a mortar yourself and mixing it into a special sauce!! Perfect to do while waiting for the bossam, haha. Grinding the sesame sends a nutty aroma wafting through the air.

Sundubu-jjigae included with every bossam order

And here's the amazing part about Uldong Bossam — they give you sundubu-jjigae (soft tofu stew) for free with the set. The spicy, deep broth flavor is excellent. It cuts through the slightly greasy taste of the meat so you don't get tired of eating it, and the stew fills in the slight lack you'd feel from eating just meat.

How does the medium bossam at Uldong Bossam taste?

Gotta bring out the bossam, right

Here's the gorgeous bossam showing off its glow

Close-up of thinly sliced bossam pork

It comes sliced thin and even, with no gamy smell, soft and moist. The ratio of fat to lean meat is just right, so it's savory without being greasy!! It's good wrapped up with onion and dried radish strips, and also pairs well with the minari namul. Minari namul is a side dish hard to find at other bossam places, which made it feel especially unique.

Plum tea served as a palate cleanser after the meal

Finishing off with a maesil-cha (plum tea) as a palate cleanser completes the perfect bossam course!!

Is Uldong Bossam worth it for bossam in Gyodong?

If you're looking for a neat, hearty Korean meal in Gyodong, I strongly recommend this place!! Clean atmosphere, reasonable prices, and a solid spread — Uldong Bossam has all three, a Gyodong restaurant worth a visit. Recommended 🤤🤤🤤
