In short

Uldong Bossam is a Korean restaurant near Daegu City Hall’s Dongin Annex in Jung-gu, Daegu. We ordered a small bossam, potato pancake, two bowls of rice, and Kooksoondang makgeolli for dinner. Verdict: a relaxed, good-value choice for solo meals, dates, or get-togethers.

News that a new great restaurant had opened near Daegu City Hall 😊 It was close to work, so after getting off, my boyfriend and I went and absolutely demolished some bossam (boiled pork wraps) for dinner💕 You can have a hearty, good-value lunch here, or bossam with a drink in the evening! Here’s my visit to Uldong Bossam (울동보쌈)➰

Uldong Bossam is right across from Daegu City Hall’s Dongin Annex 😊 Since it’s near City Hall, it would be great for office workers’ lunches too💕 It’s easy to get to, so if you’re looking for somewhere to eat in Dongin-dong or Dongseong-ro, it seems well worth a visit🙌🏻 A restaurant for a filling lunch, or bossam and a drink in the evening➰

There isn’t dedicated parking, but the City Hall parking lot is right nearby, so parking isn’t a worry 😊 It’s a bossam place, but the exterior has major café vibes♥️ (Such a warm, cozy feeling.)

An interior for both dates and solo dining

Once inside, the calm atmosphere and Korean-inspired interior were just perfect⭐️ (A bossam restaurant with this mood... so nice, right?) It felt like a restaurant with a lovely date-night atmosphere💕 It was fairly spacious inside and neatly organized overall.

In the evening, you can enjoy whiskey with bossam..!! (I’m so curious about that bossam-and-whiskey pairing 👀) They also have maesil-cha (plum tea), which would be perfect as a refreshing drink after your meal! I really loved the stylish wood-toned interior!🙌🏻

There is bar seating in front of the kitchen, so you can comfortably eat alone without feeling awkward. There are both four-person and two-person tables, with decent spacing between them!💕 There is also a room-style space farther in, which looked good for gatherings➰ Uldong Bossam is such a nice choice for family meals, dates, or meet-ups.

Here’s Uldong Bossam’s menu! Their signature is the single-serving bossam set meal♥️ Prices are in the low ₩10,000 range, so the value is amazing! (Such an easy price these days.) I thought it was a really good lunch price for nearby office workers!!😊 With individual meals, it’s ideal for solo dining too!! They also have the Uldong Bossam menu, available from two people😊 (I recommend it for dinner.)

Bossam and potato pancake for dinner

My boyfriend and I visited at dinnertime.! As the meat-loving couple we are, we decided to eat lots of bossam 🐽

  • Uldong Bossam (small)
  • Potato pancake
  • 2 bowls of rice
  • Kooksoondang makgeolli

Small Uldong Bossam and generous side dishes

Our Uldong Bossam arrived➰ They say the small size is just right for two people!! The meat is piled up, so it may look like a small amount, but it fills you up as you eat🙌🏻 When you order bossam, you also get a generous spread of side dishes!💕 Everything was plentiful and thoughtfully put together, so the first impression was a win!!💯

So many side dishes come with the bossam!!💗 They arrive neatly arranged on a tray!! Isn’t the spread seriously substantial?! Seasoned bean sprouts, pickled onions, young radish kimchi, seasoned greens, white kimchi, wrap vegetables, and sauces too—amazing..➰

They say all the side dishes are made in-house with fresh seasonal ingredients💗 My boyfriend tried them and said the owner is a great cook..! Every single side dish was delicious!!

Pork belly and pork jowl bossam

The main Uldong Bossam arrived!!😊 It includes both pork belly and pork jowl! It also came with onions, minari (water dropwort), shredded radish salad, and chili peppers to enjoy alongside. (It was so interesting that it came with minari.)

The pork belly is in the top photo and the pork jowl is below. Neither cut was tough at all—both were tender, soft, moist, and delicious!!💕 My meat-expert boyfriend personally thought it was probably sous vide!!😊

Unusually, there was a separate bossam sauce?!! Grind the sesame seeds and pour in the sauce, and it’s ready💕 Dipping the bossam in it was the best combination!😉

Makgeolli ordered with bossam
Makgeolli

And bossam just wouldn’t be complete without makgeolli (Korean rice wine)!!! I told myself I’d worked hard, then properly ordered makgeolli too🙌🏻

Wrap the bossam in the accompanying greens with whichever side dishes you like, and it tastes so good➰ There was no porky smell, and it wasn’t tough, so we completely demolished it💗

Doenjang stew served with bossam

When you order bossam, it comes with doenjang-jjigae (soybean-paste stew). There are already so many side dishes, and it even includes stew—such amazing value!!

Don’t underestimate it just because it’s included! Look at this doenjang stew packed with tofu, zucchini, and meat😊 You know a bowl of rice disappears in no time when you eat it with doenjang stew, right?!💗 My boyfriend had two bowls of rice..🍚 With all these accompanying dishes and the stew, it really felt like the best value!🙌🏻

Crispy potato pancake with cheese to taste

Bossam alone felt a little incomplete, so we ordered the potato pancake➰ How could you not order it after seeing this?! ✨ Add as much grated cheese as you want to the potato pancake✨ (We piled on lots of cheese.) If you don’t like cheese, you can simply eat it plain!.

A visual explosion

The look of a freshly cooked potato pancake 🥔 Since it’s made with shredded potatoes, it was even crispier💗 It had that feeling of the potato pancakes my mom used to make!! This was really delicious toooo!!! Definitely a menu item you might regret skipping🙌🏻

TMI. My lovely boyfriend cut it into easy-to-eat pieces and even taught me to take and post photos like this👀 Can you feel the crispiness through the photo?! I love crispy pancakes, so this was a total yes for me💕

After-work bossam and makgeolli at Uldong Bossam near Daegu City Hall

Even when full, I kept reaching for the potato pancake😊 I also felt like it would be delicious even without cheese💗 They had a minari pancake too, and after trying this potato pancake, now I’m curious about that one as well!

Trying it dipped in the ketchup that came with it➰ The ketchup pairing is lovely too♥️ Watch the cheese-sprinkling performance😉 They add as much cheese as you want, so it was nice to eat it exactly to our taste💯
